Star Wars 8 pushed back

Cameron is working on three films at once and its already been delayed multiple times. It will be interesting to see if this film every gets to theaters.

What a waste of time, energy, and money. What's the point of doing all of this if they don't make it to the theaters? Seriously? An exercise in futility.

It's Cameron none of his projects deliver on time.

He does realize he's 62 right? Not 42? 62 isn't old, but geez. I know he's a borderline megalomaniac, but even he has to realize he won't live forever.

Sorry. I just find the entire discussions of Avatar pointless. Enough with the delays!

Even with his delays his projects have always been successful.

That's very true.

From what I understand he is picky to a fault and wants everything exactly "right". I've heard that he has no patience with budget cuts or shortcuts which is interesting considering...

You and your Joe Rohde hate. I have no doubt this land will be amazing thematically because both are perfectionists and love intensive details.

Yeah...the bogey went over the head...

1. How long did it take?
2. What's the bill?

1. Construction? Started January 2014-sometime in 2017. Likely will be a little over three years.
2. We don't know officially it started with rumors around 500 million but I have also heard around 700 million so

So 3 years of "artistic brainstorming" + 3 years of construction - fingers crossed? + 700 mil?

That's my whole point on this guy...there's a price to be paid for those things...whether it's apparent or not.

He's gonna be fired sooner than later...unless he's got something on them.

I don't think we see Rohde get fired soon. At least not before the land is finished. They announced avatarland too early they announced it when the deal was signed and had not concepts done yet. Think of Star Wars, they purchased in 2012, we are looking at a Star Wars land in 2019ish. 7 years later... They will likely be spending around the same on that as well.

It's not that long since he got a promotion. And it's not like Rohde is the only one. Name one of these projects that hasn't ballooned out of control? They seem not to be able to spot the problem until they've overspent by 50% or more. At which point there options are to keep going but cancel other projects or to just stop in the middle with something half done. We've seen both approaches and they are both bad.

They need to learn how to estimate their budgets properly and manage to budget. You start making adjustments the moment your actuals drift from your projections.

Well...if you believe the recent article posted about the changes of imagineering..."reigning in" is a top priority and refocused on timelines and budget goals.

I don't want wdi to be an entirely "budget conscious" group...certainly that's too extreme. But it's history is often riddled with too much stray in the creative side. It just can't continue to spend all the time on concepts that don't get greenlit or can't be constructed with any cost effectiveness...there has to be some yang with the yin.

The micechart article even said "there's some well known divas..."

I mean...I thought nobody used a telegraph anymore?

Well part of the problem is history. WDI see themselves as the inheritors of Walt's legacy. And he paid so little attention to budgets that he almost bankrupt the company how many times? That's the mentality.

That right there 100%. Disneyland the first WDI project was over budget, WDI hasn't done a whole lot that's within a budget ever. Joe Rohde isn't the problem, like you said it's the mentality of that part of the company.
