Star Wars 8 pushed back

bumped from May to December 2017...

I had a feeling this was gonna happen when "rewrite" started popping up last week...

I think Disney got caught in an Abrams snare...what was important for "secrecy" in the rollout to the force awakens made it impossible to deliver the next one on time.

Hopefully it makes for a better movie.

I missed this. Why are they rewriting?

Just a guess but ... Ep. VII looked a little bit like they had 2 movies sketched out but decided to compress them into a single episode instead ... like maybe they were hoping to use Harrison Ford over 2 pictures and he forced them to write him out after one. So episode VIII now has to get the scenes they presumably had planned for Luke Skywalker but cut from Ep. VII, plus more elements of the old VIII story, plus elements of whatever they previously planned for Ep. IX.

Yeah, seems like a few here would rather them have gotten the record in six weeks instead of just ten days or whatever it was, because it would've had legs and not fizzled out. Fact is, a ton of people saw this movie, and a bunch of them saw it multiple times. The timing of the release was perfect, as it coincided with an exrended period of downtime/vacation time for a ton of people.

Nice thought...but you made it up.

If you had been around a month ago...you would see that almost every angle was discussed in a really nice way. There was no reason to falsely praise Disney on all topics...pounders need not apply.

Everybody followed the rollout of the movie...did reviews...watch the money totals.
Now it's had a chance to "breathe" and we can look at the nuance. Or not.

But is there something personal here I'm missing? Or the typical self serving pro Disney psychology.

It did many things well. It was not perfect...there is room for discussion.

Not sure where any of that came from.

The rewrite is a rumor and the best sources for the rumor indicate the rewrite is to emphasize more character building of the new characters - Rey, Poe, Finn, and Kylo.

Not sure that even holds water either since the point of the movies was to introduce a whole new set of actors.

It's unlikely we'll know the real story until after the movie. Much like all the details that have come out about VII after - which have both supported and debunked the various rumors that were floating around.

If you read some of Abrams comments after the release...that's a reasonable inference to make.

It's clear they wish they could've done without Leia and Han. While they have a purpose for Luke they've admitted holding back on him basically to get Leia and Han out of the way and because his role takes over the story. It's also clear they cut most of Leia's scenes - and even then had to leave a lot on the cutting room floor.

The older character are a burden to the story telling in some aspects. It just seems like 7 was setting up 8 to be all Kylo and Rey with Luke and Snoke supporting, and a supporting role for Hux and Finn. But now they have to deal with Phasma and Poe more in depth. That I can believe.

Well...this speaks to the "shortcomings" of the film...something tinker bell showed up and said Didn't exist...

Disney made the conscious choice to sacrifice original story in lieu of trying to hook new audience and pay homage to the original fanbase...a reboot...also to do prequel damage control.

It's fine for that...but it leaves episode 8 vulnerable to criticism because it's gonna have to be way more complicated in depth or its gonna drift toward transformers.

I think ford agreed to a one shot big payday...kasdan said they didn't want to kill the character...they could have just as easily made it ambiguous...and Abrams said he keep "trying to fit skywalker in"...that leaves the fairly easy correlation out there that they did condense the story he wanted and sacrificed the Jedi for it...perhaps that was demanded by ford "I only wanna do one...but I want my airtime".

And we know now that the political backstory was shot and edited...and ultimately scrapped. I think that was due at least in part to somebody showing up onscreen as a walking corpse...yikes.

I've heard that Leia will be more important in the future. Whether that is true or not only time will tell.

I don't agree that they could have done without Han. He bridged a gap IMO plus he supplied a reason for the new characters to adopt the Millenium Falcon and a certain famous wookie.

To me it's obvious that Han Solo is dead because Harrison Ford didn't want to play anymore. He's 71 years old. I don't think that it has anything to do with them wishing they could've done without Han & Leia.

I'd be interested to see which scenes with Leia ended up on the floor. Carrie was not amazing in this film, except for the final scene with Rey. You wonder if that's a product of the actress or what was written for her.

All I know is I'm a bit disappointed, our next trip was going to coincide nicely with the release of the next movie, and I was hoping there'd be some Star Wars "extras" because of it.

She just can't pull off the acting anymore. Which is ironic considering how great she was improving during the press tour.

Too much "life" for her...look up a picture of her from 95 to 2000 to 2005 to 2010 to 2015...

It's not JUST age.

Avatar 2 was just pushed back...

Maybe joe rohde had to make "just a couple more artistic trips" to outer space to get the queue "just right" at avatar land and Disney told Cameron he "better hold off" on releasing the sequel?

It's all about synergy :)

I seriously think Avatar 2 is never coming out. For real. Or I'll be a grandmother by the time it does. What is the deal with this movie?

Several news sources are saying the film has been delayed indefinitely.
