Star Tours / Rebel Spy

My DD has been the spy twice. We thought we had it figured out that it was rows near the back right side but the more go on it the more I believe it really is random. :confused3

My son was chosen in June it was his 7th birthday and he had his birthday button on. I was thinking maybe that is why he got chosen. It was our first time on since it was redone and we thought it was so cool. It sure was something he will never forget :goodvibes

I was chosen to be the rebel spy once in the dozen times we rode it this past trip. My DBF was chosen once, and his brother got chosen once. We had some theories about why ... first we tried making funny faces, then we tried looking around for the camera so our faces would be head on for multiple shots ... not sure what worked or if it was just the odds of having a medium sized party riding it that many times. :confused3

Thank you! I knew I would get a fast response from this board! Now....can you tell me how to get an overly excited 5 yr old to face forward (and possibly sit still)??? :)

my 6 year DGD was Rebel Spy and she wasn't dressed super cute and didn't do anything special. Luck of the draw I guess!

My daughters absolute favorite ride at Disneyland is Star Tours. She insisted on riding it multiple times while we there celebrating her 5th birthday this past week. She is obsessed with getting to be the "rebel spy". My husband and I were discussing it with friends and none of us can ever remember seeing a female "rebel spy". Please DIS'ers....tell me that I'm wrong here.

You are absolutely 100% wrong here. :)

My DD 7 was chosen earlier this week. It was on our first ride since the re-do, and we hadn't heard of the rebel spy. She was in the second row. On a ride later in the day, her 7 year old friend (boy) was chosen. He was also in the second row. This was probably just a coincidence....

Yup, coincidence....read on.... :)

Both I (female) and my daughter have been chosen as the rebel spy on different occasions so women can definitely be chosen. I was sitting in the back row and had the glasses on top of my head. My daughter was sitting in the 4th row and had her glasses on! I guess it can happen to anyone. I was actually smiling, but most of the time the people have a pretty silly expression on their faces.

I do think the gender of the rebel spy affects who appears in the holograms. I've never seen Yoda appear when a man is selected, and he uses female pronouns in his speech.

Good luck!

I have seen Yoda when a man was chosen as the RS. So gender does not affect this ime. :)

OP our first ride was during the AP preview......I was chosen as RS!!!! I had NO idea they even did that so was shocked and surprised to see ME on the screen for like 2 seconds. LOL I was sitting next to DD15 in the 4th row (I think, it may have been the 3rd row), my glasses were not on my face and I was making a funny face at DD, so it took me a minute to even realize it was me! LOL OMG it was the BEST ride EVER! LOL I loved it, not just because I was the RS but because it was just so much fun!! :) I've ridden it a total of 3 times (only 1 very short last minute trip a few weeks ago since the opening), once I was the RS (and yes, I'm a female lol), once a young girl was and once a man was, the young girl and the man were facing forward so they may not choose by funny faces anymore but that's what a CM told us the day I was the spy, that they chose by funny faces....I'm sure it's random and it just depends on the CM and what they chose but man it was sure fun to be the RS!! And yes, after the ride I went straight to the pin store and got the pin that says "I am the rebel spy" and it's been on my lanyard ever since. :)

Ahh! You guys are killing me with being chosen! My daughter is dying to be chosen, but despite riding it about a dozen times (we have ridden it 3-4 times the last 3 trips), none of us have ever been chosen. I figured out that you shouldn't put your glasses on, and should look straight ahead on the first trip. I think it is the ride operator who choses the spy, because they always go to the front area and press a button while looking at all of us. Once an operator ever laughed and said "this is my favorite part!" while pressing the button.

So if you have been chosen--you are so lucky! If you have been chosen more than once--then you have some amazing rebel spy mojo.

Our last ride during our Thanksgiving week trip was pretty funny since the rebel spy was a nun in the front row.

I was the RS the first time I rode it and didn't know a thing about it ! I was second row last seat to the right.

A tip I received was not to have your "flight glasses" perched on top of your head. The glasses can't be on or in the picture at all. And they tend to pick people who are looking straight ahead. So get in, sit down quickly, have your glasses in your hand not on your head, and look straight ahead. Good luck! :thumbsup2

I, a female, was chosen as the rebel spy on our last trip and I had my 3D glasses on top of my head. Who knows?

Have you considered making her a shirt that says "Rebel Spy" with an arrow pointing up?

My 7 year old daughter was the Rebel Spy when we were there in October. She was sitting in the center of the middle row. She was SO excited to be chosen!

After reading this thread I told my friend to look straight ahead and hold the 3d glasses in his hand and sure enough he was chosen as the Rebel Spy last night...haha.

Okay, I've been telling my daughter all of your suggestions and I honestly think she's going to try them all!:) Gosh darn it, she's gonna be the rebel spy!....some day....;)

Don't think she could look any stranger than she did on the first day of our last trip though...like I said, it was her 5th b-day and she had just had her very first Princess Makeover. I kept telling people that we were heading straight from DL to tryouts for the next Jersey Shore, as she looked like Snooki Jr.!:scared1:
