[I hadn't heard the "family and friends going on a diet together" story.

Yes...Star announced all this one morning as the group was talking about her pending Nuptials to Al...Star said her sister and mom and grandmom (not friends) will all be supporting her and that ONE sister said she will BEAT OUT Star in the weight loss race...and actually this got Star going and she actually beat out the one sister in the end for the most lbs lost. They were going to do Yoga and Pilates and walk more....it was really refreshing IMO listening to Star talk about her sincere desire to seriously lose some weight.

This topic made front line headlines in the New York Post. www.nypost.com Not only did the on-air announcement come as a complete surprise to the show and network, but apparently Star talked to People magazine also yesterday saying that she felt like she was fired. Technically, yes, she was, when they didn't renew her contract, but certainly Disney/ABC wanted to keep this to themselves. Barbara said they had wanted to give Star time to find something else and pretty much wanted to let her (Star) tell the viewers whatever story she wanted (that it was her that decided not to come back, not the other way around). By airing the dirty laundry details, she did herself in and Disney certainly doesn't like that kind of negative publicity. No wonder she didn't appear on the show today.

Wow, I was quite shocked this morning ... no matter what I think of Star - I thought the ladies were one big family - I would hate to be in her shoes right now. Also, Barbara said that ABC hoped that Star would have found a job by now and they let her say whatever she wanted yesterday about her leaving - cant wait to see her replacement tho ... any guesses?!

Wow, that must have been wild watching all that from Babs...so are you saying that Babs is saying that Star has known she was leaving BEFORE Meredith was offered Katie's spot...? And she already has a new job lined up? I read somewhere that Star loved her "hosting" of the VIEW so much she was not and had no intention of going back to LAW ever and was not going to re-new her Attorney's license (?)...did anyone else hear that?????....I wonder if she will return to Law after all this has occurred. Hmmm!!!!!!

I will be just like that tonight watching all the Entertainment shows....wow, I wonder if this will get UGLY.....

It has really already gotten ugly. It was unclear as to how long she had known . i do not know how long ago Meridith had known but it was clear that Barbara was reading a statement and she made no bones about the fact it was a prewritten statement which I am SURE the legal staff went over with a fine tooth comb. What Babs said was they had hoped she would have had a job lined up before she made the announcemnt and they wanted it to come from Star in effect to save face for her.

Well, Star's silver lining is that I guess she can start collecting unemployment checks earlier instead of waiting until the July date she announced. Gosh, she'll need it...that girl is high maintainance!

Wow I did not want to say anything about Elizabeth for fear of being a witch b/c she seems so sweet and naieve. I cannot stand her. you just want to tell her to shut her mouth.

How about how barbara said "but star chose a different way" by announcing that it was her choice when in fact the real story was that ABC wasn't renewing her contract in the fall". Star was trying to make it look like she decided to move on (we all know it WAS cause of rosie) and that this was all her choice. She chose to spring it on the air w/o barbara knowing about it ahead of time which was a BIG no no in the BABWA WA WA world. I think barbara doing it the way she did this morning, outing star the way she did, but in a somewhat professional way, was her way of getting back at star for the way she just announced it yesterday. i just wonder if star watched the show!

I agree. I can take or leave her and she does seem like a witch sometimes but they did let her go. So she decided to make the announcement the way she wanted to.

AHHHH, Star was a nobody. She received a "gift" being allowed to BE on the show. They owe her nothing b/c she would not be anywhere today and most certainly would not have been given the life of luxury and privilidge she was handed all due to the View. I mean if you or I tried to comp our way to a luxury wedding well mabye we could get an extra boutoniere and that is all Star would have gotten that too if not for the View. IMHO

So, how should The View handled not renewing Star's contract?

It was Barbara who kept her around for another season. Others at ABC wanted her gone last Fall. Star was given the opportunity to bow out with some respect, but she opted to not do that by jumping the gun and announcing her departure two days early. And yes, I do understand her feelings. I've been let out of contract myself, it doesn't feel good. However, contracts are the name of the game and Star had to know that.

I totally agree! The show didn't owe her anything. She made lots of $$$$ because of her "success" on the View. According to one report I read the network did research that showed that viewers were turned off by Star after her weight loss and 2004 wedding to Al. If you are bringing down the show, ya gotta go. Its just business. She has had plenty of time to find something else and ABC did not have to shield her until she did find another gig. That's show biz, baby!! I personally hope she is destined to be another Joan Rivers on the red carpet! Bye Star! Don't let the door hit you in the butt!

yep, I know that. I meant she went on her terms; that SHE picked the day to make the announcement. That's all.

I don't like Star and I'm not defending her but I can see why she's be hurt and angry by being let go. That's just me though.

see i don't agree here, she made herself look bad b/c she was quoted as saying that the VIEW did not re-new her contract. she said all this BEFORE babs' speech today.
