I love the penny sales too!! I have my oldest son go with me. I give him a quarter to buy all his stuff and I buy all of my stuff. The cashiers have never given us a problem about doing this.

i am very excited about this. i always love to buy stuff for other people who cant afford it. this year i have a friend who has a total of 6 kids btw 2 of her own and 4 stepkids who are in financial trouble. I have bought her son my godson pants for school already. we have a once upon a child here. i only have 1 child of my own a daughter who is 5 but my godson is also 5 its like having twins sometimes and people always ask when we take him with us places if they are twins. I guess I got my boy and girl, but only had to go through 1 labor.

Last year I was in a teaching position where I was supporting brand new teachers to the field who were interning and getting their MA degrees in Special Education. We had 19 2nd year teachers and 20 1st year teachers. I put together "goodie bags" for each teacher which included a bottle of glue, a box of crayons (5 cents each, I think -- the crayons may have been 20 cents), a package of eraser tips (5 cents), a pencil sharpener, a package of pencils, a ruler, and a pencil box (all 1 cent unless noted otherwise). There may have been something else in the bag as well, but I can't remember. I put them in clear cellophane treat bags. I figured it cost me about 15 or 20 cents per bag plus the cost of the bags (which was more than the supplies!). I also bought gobs of folders and left them on the table during the orientation for them to take what they needed.

Oh, even though I could purchase 30, I'd buy my 30, take the stuff to the car and then go back in to get more. That way I had enough for everyone with extra left over. I bought a lot more of the folders though.

I can't wait for the sale. I'm back in the classroom with kids this year!

As a soon to be first year teacher, I will say THANK YOU!

It isn't easy "hosting" teaching students! I know I have a lot of questions, inexperience and only a little bit of lesson planning knowledge-- I can only imagine what many interns are like.

Thank you again for taking care of the "bigger" students.

No. Typically the limit is 3 per person of each item. Teachers can usually get up to 15 of each item for a penny. That is the difference.

I apologize, I didn't read the entire thread so forgive me if this was posted. What kind of deals were available last year during the penny sale? If they limit 3 items per person, could my DS(9) buy some and I buy some? I also have a DD(5) but that might be a harder transaction than it's worth!

Last year I got pencils, pencil cases, sharpeners and folders for $.01 each. There were also binders for about $1.

In late August-ish they had the shapeners for $.05. DSIL had picked some up, and I was like 'You paid $.05 for that sharpener?"

Last year I had my kids with me (3) and they each got the 3 limit. I just asked the cashier to ring it up separately, but I am the one who did the transaction and not the kids. It was fine.

Thanks for the heads up. Now that the kids are older ( middle and high school) I don't need all the little stuff, but who can pass up .01 folders. I do like the purell I just have to see if they are too big for our carryons.

You have to get a teacher's card. I would at least ask or apply. We homeschool, but I was a teacher when I got the card so I still have my teacher card.

Can't wait for the penny sale. Last year we went everyday to both Staples. We donated TONS to the inner-city backpack and school supply drive!

Is that the teachers reward card or another card? This is my first year teacher and I have the reward card but wondering if there is another card I should sign up for.

The Purell is only 0.5 oz - well below the 3oz max for carry-ons.
