Staples $1.00 pens, crayons, highlighters etc...

I don't remember the highlighters being on that good of a sale last year and I need older kids school supplies. Why they never havet the 3 inch 3 ring binders on sale kills me, they cost so much. I have even looked online for them.

Yep. I've done it for the last several years.

Last year I needed to buy my daughter a graphing calculator (which hopefullly will be the last calculator I ever have to buy for her!), and I tried very hard to beat the $120 retail price. I ended up taking a Staples ad, which advertised the calculator for $99, to Office Max. There I used a $25 off a $100 purchase coupon (seems like I had to throw in something small to bring the total to over $100) and got the calculator for $74. Because I used my teacher discount card, I got a few dollars back on a gift card at the end of the quarter.

You'll never find EVERYTHING you need for back-to-school on sale. The best plan is to save on what you can, then figure that it all averages out in the end. If you buy your crayons and folders at .01 each, but then you pay full price for the binder, it all comes out okay in the end.

I'm pretty sure the Crayola crayons were .20 a box at Staples and Wal-Mart last July. The Staples free, penny, and nickel bargains just can't be beat come early July. The sales last from Sunday through Wednesday each week, so if you go on a weekday evening, there won't be any crowds.

Last year I bought bags and bags of stuff for probably under a few dollars. I had the entire back of my van full of staples bags. Teachers get 25 of each item, so I got lots of free stuff, especially pocket folders (I'd make multiple trips).

You got me to chuckle, I use the same mindset at the mall to justify some of my more expensive purchases.

I don't actually need that much because the lists are full of stuff that apparently isnt needed as it is lost halfway through the year and my kids seem to do fine without it. But the binders for 3 really add up, with the little inserts for each subject etc.

School doesn't end here until the 26th. It's kinda crazy to be thinking about back to school sales while trying to wrap up the school year.

We're less than 8 weeks from going back, but the real schools ads are still 3-4 weeks off. The only good deal in that list is the highlighters IMO.
