Standing, standing, standing

I don't think it is very courteous to get on a full bus and expect that someone else give you a seat. I think it is pretty discourteous to your own family to put them in that position in the first place.

Someone can't see to it that their family is safe and comfortable, yet a complete stranger lacks common courtesy for not doing it instead? No.

If someone freely offers their seat, then that is great! But getting on a bus expecting someone to do so and then getting mad when they don't is not great. Pretty rude and self centered.

Well said.

The funny thing is that I do generally give up my seat (I have lupus and, if I'm having a bad day, sometimes need to stay seated). However, I find it rude for people to expect that others will get up for them - especially under the guise of "common courtesy" and having been raised better.

Seriously? Choosing to USE a uterus? If you're male, my response is that your comment is rude and obnoxious. If you're female, my response is that your comment is rude and obnoxious. The status of your uterus or your lack of one is irrelevant.

I was going to respond but yours says it better than I could.

Ok, maybe I should have been more specific, but I didn't say JUST for me, I said also elderly couples as well as myself with my 6 year old sleeping child who I may have added is nearly as tall as I am so for me to try to balance him and myself standing it can be a challenge. MY beef is more with the young people that see several parents trying to balance themselves and a childAS WELL AS the elderly who are standing, then not only offer a seat to anyone, but stare at those standing like they're annoyed at them for standing in front of them.....we all can't help that Disney won't move the bus til it's packed beyond capacity, so if you're not going to give up your seat to ANYONE who might need it more, at least have the courteousy to not give them the evil eye for standing in front of you.

You really need to stop thinking that you or anyone else is owed a seat. If you have a six year old that won't stay awake enough to stand or you can't stand because of your age, health issue, etc. then you either need to leave the park earlier, wait until the crush of the closing crowd subsides, take a taxi or rent a car. It is really nice when someone offers their seat to someone else, but no one should expect that to happen.

Exactly. If I see a pregnant women, I'll offer my seat. If I see someone visible struggling, I'll get up. If someone that looks on the outside to be healthy asks if she/he could have my seat as they struggling to stay standing, I'll get up. But don't go in and give me a dirty look because I'm not moving. I have an invisible disability (I am on dialysis and find standing for long periods of time tiring) but I would never ask anyone to get up unless standing wasn't a possibility. And even then I would ask and if someone said no I'd accept it.

Yeah, my 2 DS's and I sat on the floor at Main St. Starbucks in late August to eat snack right after the park opened. (I.e., quiet day at the park; still no seating.) Many other kids were sitting on the floor too, also enjoying $5 cookies or the like. I drank coffee sitting on a floor. Ridiculous.

Wow! Sitting on a dirty floor to eat. How magical.

Now back to the original point of this thread, they do need to provide more benches in the parks. Though I have to imagine there is some reason for the absence of them.

I wouldn't dream of plopping down onto a floor in order to drink my coffee. You can find seating outside. Sitting on the floor IS ridiculous.

It seems to me that people who complain about standing on a bus should spend a week taking mass transit everywhere. The only thing I can think of as to why people complain about his is that they never had to spend on a bus or subway before WDW.

Personally, I'd love to see WDW invest in more trains and Peoplemovers, as was envisioned when the resort plans were first being conceived. More efficient, both logistically and fuel-wise, plus just plain more fun. I know they'll never have the cojones to make the capital investment needed to expand the monorail line, but some form of transportation that doesn;t have to be slowed down by highway traffic would make everybody a lot happier.

It doesn't make good business sense to expand the monorail line. It would be hiddeously expensive for one thing. For another, the monorail isn't what you would call reliable.:headache:

Buses are the most efficient form of transportation for WDW. The monorails are all electric and the electricity in that area comes primarily from coal burning power plants. The monorails are an expensive attraction (i.e. oddity) but not a serious form of transportation.

I am one of those who has a disability that may not be visible to others and have difficulty standing. Last trip, we rented a car. Best thing! We will not do another trip without a rental car. We did not have to wait in line for the bus or worry about not getting a seat. I highly recommend it!

Count me among the people who have regularly relied on various forms of public transportation in two major cities, and still find the bus crowding objectionable.

So right, back to the OP point .... more benches and seating.

This would be great. But I do think others have hit on a prime concern, if you are sitting, you aren't spending.

Though, if we get tired enough and choose to leave the parks to go relax at the hotel, we aren't spending either.

The great thing is, no one has to use the buses! I choose to stand on a bus (when I am able) instead of waiting for the next one, because I can! If I found it objectionable I could always wait for the next bus, or go grab one of the taxis that are steps away, or even rent a car. Disney forces no one to use their buses, and if you don't like them, you don't have to!:)

Exactly... Case closed and to the point....

I rent a car for the same reason. Also I like coming and going as I please.

You could take up smoking. There are always places to sit in the smoking section and I hear it's a great habit to pick up in your 70s ;)

Seriously though, last trip I was riding ToT solo and told my wife a time to meet me back at the exit. I got off about 15 minutes early and saw all this glorious low wall space to sit on and rest. Made myself comfy, took a survey and prepared to wait. Till suddenly I was overcome with a wall of smoke that looked like the snow storm hitting Buffalo. Turns out all that precious sitting space was part of a large smoking section

AHA! That's why I can always find a bench. :p
