We are flying to WDW in the afternoon tomorrow :) Our flight has one connection. The problem is that the layover is 3 hours which will turn our day into a 12 hour day!!! We have a 2.5 hour drive to the airport. Plus, we have to get there extra early, and this assumes no delays! There is an earlier flight (not too much earlier) that has a 1 hour layover. I would love to try to get onto that flight instead as we have 2 young children (6 and 4) who in all honesty will probably do alright with the long layover we have now, but of course they (and us too for that matter) would fair much better with the shorter connection. I know there are plenty of seats available on the flights that I would like to get onto, but my questions are:

How do you go about asking to be put on another flight while at the airport?

Whom do you ask?

And what is the best way to do it?

If they let us do this, will they ticket us all the way through to MCO? Or, will we be on our own at the connection to try and get on the next flight to get to MCO?

Thank you in advance for your help!!!

Ask about it at the check-in counter; they may be willing to re-ticket you right there. If not, go to the gate counter for the flight you want to get on and ask about flying standby.

My limited experience with standby is that they will not re-ticket you all the way. You will be on your own at the connection point in terms of trying to get standby on the next flight, so worst case is that you might have to wait for your original flight at your connection point.

you just tell them at the tkt cntr that you would rather go standby on this other flight that you want. if its open then they will give you a seat right away if it isn't then they will put you on the list and you will have to go to the gate and see if there is a seat available. which if there is they will put you on it. very easy to do.
