Standard View vs Preferrred View @ BWV

We just became new DVC members @ BWV. What is the difference between the room views? I know that a preferred view room would overlook the pool or the boardwalk. What other area of the complex does the standard view room overlook, besides the parking lot? Does anyone have any opinions regarding the standard view rooms? Any comments appreciated. Thanks

Hello and welcome home!! Glad to meet a fellow BWV owner.

Standard rooms have views of the parking lot/main enterance.
Preferred rooms have views of the Swan/Dolphin, pool, and canal to the MGM Studios.
Guarenteed Boardwalk view rooms have views of the Boardwalk.

Preferred and guarenteed Boardwalk views are the same amount of points per night. Enjoy!

Standard view rooms can also overlook the tennis courts, the back of a building, or be by the air conditioners. My only standard view room overlooked the ditch just before the parking lot, and had the air conditioners right in front of my balcony. Never again--I learned what a guaranteed view is worth

My understanding is that some standard rooms actually have better views than a few of the preferred rooms.

I once got a preferred room that looked out over a swampy area in the back of the resort. It wasn't very "preferred." It didn't ruin my trip, though, but I would have preferred a parking lot to the swamp.

We have only stayed standard and have always been pleased with our views. Our view has always been of the driveway and entrance. Because the resort curves away from the road, you're not sitting right on top of it and cannot hear any noise. We will always stay standard to maximize our points. Here's a picture of some of the standard rooms and the lawn they overlook.

Most of the time, we choose standard views if we can get them. We've also had rooms overlooking the front entrance and we've found them to be quiet and private, even when we're sitting on our balcony.
We love the point-saving, since it allows us to stay longer at "home"!

DH and I have had standard view twice, upper floor in the pink section shown in the photo. We loved it. Great view of the fireworks at Epcot over the convention center...

The Standard View rooms make up less than 20% of the total. The Guaranteed Boardwalk View rooms make up about another 20%. The rest are Preferred View rooms. So if you want either a Standard View room or a Guaranteed Boardwalk View room, book early because both of those categories go fast.
