Standard View at BWV

I have been fortunate to get a Boardwalk view for all of my trips except for the last one where we had a view of the pool, the waterway to MGM and the top of TOT. I was very disappointed, due to the trees, it was difficult to even see the pool. Also there was plenty of noise from the pool but not nearly as interesting as the goings on at the boardwalk.

It was a much shorter walk to the room but I'd much rather walk the extra "mile" to a Boardwalk view. My son and I love to watch the drunks come out of Jelly Rolls in the wee hours of the morning. Or watching the boats starting out for the day, watching the sun rise over Spaceship Earth, of course fireworks, the piano/bicycle...

Sorry, my list could go on forever.

We have had preferred views for our trips so far. I have to book a 2-bedroom for Oct '06 in Nov. I'm hoping I can get a standard view for that trip. I've heard a lot of nice things about the standard view and want to try it out then. Hopefully, I can get it.

We've enjoyed both standard and BoardWalk view. I have to wonder about the pool view... why anyone would choose that. They're no better than the standard view rooms, and are more points.

People should, however, keep in mind that the preferred view points are the same number of points as the BCVs and VWL - neither of which have special views. IMHO, both the SV and BW View rooms offer a great value - getting something "extra" (SV - location, BW View - View) for comparable points (SV at BWVs is only a point or so more than OKW, BW View is the same as VWL/BCVs/BWV preferred). That doesn't make preferred view a bad deal. It does, however, mean BWV owners are getting "first dibs" on something that is in short supply - but then so are rooms at VWL/BCVs or Grand Villas at OKW - so those owners get first dibs on something else in short supply.

We have stayed in a standard view room . It overlooked the front entry. I liked it. I thought it was interesting in the morning while we were in the room to watch the activity, and I thought it was pretty at night with the front all lit up.

I think in general it's tough to get a standard view at 7 months, I think folks will book a preferred view at 7 months and waitlist for a standard, in the hopes that someone else's vacation plans change and the standard views comes up.

We booked our trip that starts in 2 days :earboy2: in March, and were able at that time to get a std view 1br for 5 of the 6 nights, and waitlisted for the 6th one, booking a std view studio in case the waitlist didn't come thru. About 6 weeks later, the waitlist came thru and we got the 6th night in the std view 1br. So, it CAN be done on short notice, but I wouldn't expect it to happen all the time!

I usually try to book a standard view at the BWV (my DVC home resort)because it uses fewer points. I ask for a water view when I book and the view has always been ok. The few times I booked a preferred view (because standard view was sold out-- I called too late) it was a garden/ pool view and just ok. I have never been able to get a boardwalk view but next time I'll try the suggestions mentioned here. :earsgirl:

Exactly where are the standard view rooms that are also a water view? All the standard views we have had have overlooked the entrance.

Most of the standard view rooms over look a retention stream with some fountains in it.

I stayed in a standard view suite and the view was lovely by the river. I was then moved to a preferred view by the pool. They put me in one that had a closed balcony and you could not see anythign through your balcony. In my opinion the standard view is better, although I have not yet stayed with a Boardwalk View.

Some of the rooms that face the canal on the end by Jellyrolls have been assigned as standard view. Now that the DVC offices have been replaced by a lawn, they may preferred (which I think they were originally):

There are also some nice views by the pond near the entrance:

DH and I (Disney Fun Fan) are in the process of buying resale at WLV. (We've signed and paid our deposit just waiting for everything else to be processed).

Anyway I've been doing lots of researching and looking at all our different options. I noticed that BWV standard view is a couple of points less a night than preffered. Is it worth it to you for preffered or does it really make a difference?

You can NOT get better value for your points than BWV standard or OKW.
