Hi, My DH would really like to stay at AKL. I just called and the standard rate is just about 50 more dollars for our stay then CBR. However saying that.. Can someone tell me the worse case that the standard rate would be??

Then can you tell me if I should request an area of the hotel over the other??

Thanks

Hi there,

Standard rooms generally have a view of the parking area, bus depot area or service areas of the hotel.

Having said that, quite often guests receive a complimentary upgrade to poolview or even savanna at check in ~ even without asking for it.

There are many public areas to view the animals so I am sure you will enjoy the hotel whatever type of room you book.

I would recommend requesting "Best possible view" on your reservation and see what happens.

If you are really unhappy with the room you are assigned you can always ask to be moved.

Does anyone have a fax number for AKL??
thanks
linda

fax # is 407-938-4799

Good luck! I'm going to be checking in on Saturday and will be happy if I get an upgrade or not. I'll post a report when I get back.
:D

Cart-mom, what room rate did you book at? I am just going to hope for a non- parking lot view. I figured if I get that, I'll be happy. I"m going to fax down to see if I can order some goodies for my husband.. Like Mickey Mouse ears waiting for him...
This is more for him this time then me. :)

Can't wait to hear about your trip.

Linda, we have a CM friend of the family that is getting us a fantastic rate ($99 a night) otherwise we'd be staying at the AS resorts. DH thinks it's a waste to spend money on a room that we only sleep & shower in. When I found out about the rate CM's get I persuaded him to give in this time.

I don't think the resort will help out with the ears or anything like that but you can try http://giftsofalifetime.com/ or the WDW Florist to have something waiting for your DH when you check-in.

When are you going? Good luck!

One of the wings has rooms overlooking the bus stop, and some are on the ground floor, so there's lots of people walking just a few feet from your patio (which is semi-enclosed). I'd suggest requesting an upper floor and don't look down (view of parking lot, front entrance, bus, etc). I wouldn't hesitate to book a standard view room, particularly if I got an upper floor ---- of course, I'd prefer savannah view, but there really are lots of areas to view the animals and the lodge is quite unique.

We just arrived back from the AKL. We extended our stay last min and only could get standard view at ap rate (whole resort was booked for other views discount or not) after staying at vwl for the week. Room 1483, ground level in the corner of the bld. Over looks an area that is a quite savannah lookout. So we got a partial savannah view and people watched as well. No noise from outside and right next to pool area. Great room/value

...After rethinking my initial reservation that was AKL concierge.
I really wanted to do the sunrise safari so I booked 2 nights concierge and tried to put out of my mind how much $$$$ I was going to pay for this. Then,I watched a show on Travel Channel that featured the AKL,specifically the concierge!! Wow!! Was I ever happy I saw that show!! I realized for us,it would not be worth all that money! I think maybe I could've justified the cost if I had a few kids to feed and I'd be spending time at the resort, but
neither applied to us. And,as far as the sunrise safari, I was kind of disappointed that what the show featured didn't seem to be all that special and for us,the regular safari would be just fine! So,I cancelled and reserved a standard room which will be just fine for us and way cheaper!!!! The thing about the views are,you really have to be in your room to enjoy them, and that just isn't the case for us. We leave our room early in the day and usually don't return until 10-11pm!! I took the $$$ that I would've spent and instead, we're going to Discovery Cove!!! For us,that's $$$$ worth spent!!!!!

Just got back from the beautiful AKL at about 1:30 this morning. We were in room 2229 (Savanah view with two queen beds). We had nearly constant views of animals; but noticed that there were many very good viewing points in and around the hotel, so even those with views of the bus stop have many places to see the zebras and giraffes! This is our favorite hotel. Next visit we'll do the night goggles at the rock.
