I had to give up a value studio at AKV for the first week of October and book a standard studio for the last week. I am used to having pool view in the value studios and love them--beautiful view, quiet location, close to lobby. I'm trying to decide what to request for the standard. I know you either get pool view or partial savanna view. I realize the partial savanna view will be a longer walk from the lobby. Just wondering what the partial savanna looks like. Is there a better savanna to request? Can you even request a certain savanna if you just have standard? Any information will be appreciated.

Standards, as you note, are now either pool view or partial savanna view (rooms converted from savanna view). There are actually more partial savanna view rooms in standard now than pool view. Moreover some are close to the lobby, some far, some in between. As to where they are see the following http://i.imgur.com/G2qaSva.png Some have people pens in front of them, some are just set back further than others and some are in areas where animals sometimes don't go. If you want to try for one, a request you could make is along Kudo trail, since all the standards on that side of the building are those converted from savanna view to standard and they are over the Sunset savanna.

So, would a request for Kudu Trail, close to lobby be a good request?

Values are values because the rooms are smaller. Standards at all of the resorts are standards because of restricted or poor views. Remember Disney tends to assign a higher room category to a room whenever they can.

We were in a Disney cash room several years ago when Disney staff members asked if they could enter the room, they went to the balcony and made some notes on their clipboard. I asked them what they were doing and they were changing our room to a "lake view" category. I said where is the lake, their reply, over there, you can see some water through the trees. Now they call it a water view. :D

For example this is a standard view partial savannah view. Studio 5545 towards the end of Zebra trail overlooking Uzima:

KAT4DISNEY, that is an awesome view. Am I correct that the Uzima savanna gets the morning sun? This is also a pretty long walk from the lobby, isn't it? If so, I think I would prefer the Sunset savanna since there's a chance at some closer rooms, but I would hope to get the same kind of view.

While pictures can provide an idea of what view you may get, that doesn't mean that you will. At AKV the animals tend to follow paths from feeder to feeder that are placed to attract them for viewing. Sometimes you get a good view of them from your room, sometimes you don't. The public viewing areas tend to have better views.

I totally realize this. I have stayed at AKV many times. Just never in a standard at Jambo. And I'm not expecting a view of the animals in a standard. I just like the trees and grass and the lack of people.

Simba's Mom, this is amazing! I see that room isn't very close to the lobby. I'm going to definitely request Kudu Trail. I'll just have to think about whether I want to add "close to lobby" to the request. I'm thinking if i do that and they don't fulfill the Kudu Trail part, then I will definitely get pool view since that IS close to the lobby.

Hey, I think we are soulmates! It seems you love AKV and HHI as much as I do!

So a guarantee to get the partial savannah view might be to request pool view. I've done that the 2 times we've had standard view and always gotten the savannah! :rotfl2:

Understood, my comments are for you and for others who may not have stayed there.

I have had some absolutely awful views for standard studios at AKV - Jambo. So much so, that I avoid booking them if I can. Twice I was assigned the absolute last room on the south bead of the resort - which actually was a very nice savannah view but hard on the feet and very isolated feeling. And many, many times just a very substandard savannah view; so bad I can see why it was reclassified to a standard. :crazy2:
