Standard room at POP?

When I first planned our trip a few months ago, we were going to do POR. After thinking about it for a while we decided to switch over to the POP since the kids had a much better time at the values due to the theming. So, when I made our reservations, they only had standard rooms available. I REALLY wanted preferred and have never gotten a standard before

How far is the walk going to be? My kids are 2 and 4. If I call can I request to be as close as possible? Maybe even be on stand by for a preferred room?

I have been in a room that is about as far removed from the main bldg/bus stop at POP and it was an easy 6 min walk from the room to the food court. I have stopped paying for those preferred rooms now. When I stopped to think about how much walking I was already doing each day, an extra 2 mins just didin't seem like a big deal.

We stayed at POP last year and we were in building #1 facing the bowling pin pool on the 4th floor! I was amazed that this was considered standard it was a 2 min. walk max to the food court! Try to request that if you want!

I have heard that "preferred" is now rooms within 500ft of Classic Hall.

Anyone have any info to share on that?

Other than the back of the 80s section, most of the rooms are reasonably accessible to Centennial Hall and the bus stops. We were in the back once and with what seems to be my perennial foot/leg injuries, it seemed much longer from there to the front of the resort than from the 50s. Or I just may not have found the shortest route! *lol*

Otherwise, I loved that area (behind the computer pool) as it was very quiet and easily accessible to the parking lot if you are driving.

As with taja we were very happy behind the computer pool on the non poolside 90's . easy access to the buses starting and ending the day

When we were there in 2006, we stayed in the 70's (in the part that is still standard, not preferred) & it was perfect. Our daughters were 2 & 4 at the time, & it was the best location for us. It's close to the playground, goofy jets, kiddie pool & the food court. We stayed in a ground floor room with a lake view, which was very quiet.

We stayed at Pop in the 50s tramp building and it was so close. It was not preferred but the walk to the bus stop and the food court were a few short minutes away, the bowling pin pool was right outside and the main pool was just a few minutes walk. Pop is well layed out and the theming is great. Enjoy your stay!

The farther you are from the main building, the more you have to look at while you walk there! :lmao:

We have stayed at POP for our last 3 stays. We always request 50's section and as close to the parking lot, since we drive ourselves around while there.

We still walk each day to classic hall for food etc.. We find the walk enjoyable, at most it is about 6 minutes.

We will be staying at POP  this Oct.

Everytime we've stayed at POP we've been in the 80's or the 90's sections. The first trip I was initially disappointed because I had heard that it wasn't a great area, but we loved it. It's really not a far walk at all to the food court or the buses. I don't think I'd pay for preferred at POP unless I really wanted to be near the big pool.

Pop Century is about 1,500 feet across, maximum (far corner of far wing of 90s to diagonally opposite far corner of far wing of building 2 or three). Classic Hall is less than 750 feet from either of these locations, and closer from closer buildings/rooms.

OK...so now I'm thinking that standard would be fine.

I booked preferred because I have a joint problem and wanted to eliminate any extra walking. It sounds like nothing is that far away.

Should I change to standard and save the extra $170....we're staying 2 weeks will the distance bcome an issue after a while?
