Standard at BWV, what is the story?

We bought BWV b/c of those standard point options! I just love getting a villa in a prime Epcot location for just a point more than an OKW villa. (I'm not bashing OKW - we stay there too and love it) For our standard views we have both overlooked the canal and out at the Swan hotel and the front entrance of BWV. The one time we did book preferred (b/4 BW view was guarenteed) our room also faced the Swan just a little closer to the elevator but the view was the same. I'd rather pay the lower points.

You were guaranteed a BW view and you looked at the Swan! I would have been miffed. If you are looking at the Swan it is not a BW view. If you are looking at the lake and the Beach Club, then it is a Boardwalk view. I hope I am right. Anyone have a take on this?? I just got done writting on another thread how I was going to book another one bdrm B'walk view but now I am worried. The last time we requested this view we were in the middle of the resort, directly over the Boardwalk, and our view was the lake and the Beach Club.

Actually the post reads:

I think Icy-dog was referring to the statement about the Preferred View room.

The one time we did book preferred (b/4 BW view was guarenteed) our room also faced the Swan

I think the part he missed was the b/4 (before) BW view was guaranteed.

I don't know, but I'm glad they did!

We stayed at BWV, last year, in a preferred view of a tree!

We'll be staying there, again, in less than three weeks, in a standard view. Can't be worse than looking at a tree! :p For the amount of time we're on our balcony, it doesn't matter what's out there. :)

You're right. I guess I never figured b/4 meant before. Live and learn.

Last year, our BWV visit was in a preferred garden/pool view and we overlooked that roof also. Probably the standard views are lower and preferred views are on higher floors so do have a better view when looking over the roof.

See this picture:

We were in the last room next to Jellyrolls in April on the third floor as a standard view. If we looked to the right, we could see their dumpster.

2 schedules for one resort is a problem - that the computer system has - .
I hope DVC never tries to use this excuse. With what computer programs can do now, every resort should be able to have variable point costs. It's no different then Disney's other hotels that offer standard, water, and concierge rooms, all at different costs.

I believe in the picture referenced above that is the red building that is going bye-bye.

Although I have loved my preferred rooms, both BW and canal, we are big fans of the standard views for the point savings. We have always looked out over the parking lot and most of the time can still the fireworks also. Granted it isn't near as wonderful but the rooms are exactly the same and for saving those points it is wonderful.

When we originally bought at BWV, we bought exactly enough points (214) for a 7 night preferred view in early Nov. We did that once. It didn't take long to figure out that the points go a lot further using Standard view. Not only that, but now we try not to even use weekend points anymore. We come down Sat, stay at Swan or Dolphin at the teacher's rate, and then move over to BWV SV Sun to Fri. The more trips I can get out of my points, the better. We have never had an unacceptable SV.

We had standard overlooking the entrance drive. It wasn't ideal, but we too enjoyed sitting on the balcony and watching people come and go.

We have had standard views that were fine. We were NOT pleased with recent ones that were of a weed patch and a roof, 2nd floor over old Welcome Center (2004,2006, 2008, 2010). The landscaping has been neglected terribly and they are too low to see anything attractive. Boardwalk views across the hall were okay (2007, 2009). These rooms also had plastic (looked like torn up black garbage bags) covering the hallway carpets and lots of workers/equipment in the halls during the day. They were also a long way from elevators. I would NOT recommend these rooms at this time.

We stayed on the second floor way down the hall, overlooking the ugly red building, but it was worth savung the points to us. Rest assured, all, that building is going away if it hasnt already!

westjones, yours is the first post that gives me wonderful reasons to be at BWV at Christmastime! Wow, carolers, Santas and more. I just didn't know. 5 villas @ standard view rates were all we could afford, and we figured being close to Epcot and MGM would be good enough to overcome disappointment at not being at VWL, now I'm really psyched, it will be our first stay at BWV!

And if they could easily undo/redo that decision, I bet they would. :teeth:

Instead of lowering the points for the rooms now called "standard" view, I bet they wish they'd increased the points for the Boardwalk view rooms and left all the others at what is now the preferred rate.
Which they couldn't do once sales had started, all they could do was keep them the same or lower others.

spiceycat, not sure what you're saying. VB always had two views for Inn rooms and they are only hard to get at certain times of the year. And while I'd agree that DVC doesn't like to complicate things with different views at different points, they are looking at it for SSR. At this point just to monitor the winds. IMO, SSR will be the biggest drop off from one view to another that is the same points structure.
I also wish that there was some way that people who book at the 11 month window have more choice in their accomodations than people that squeeze in at the last minute. It all comes down to what order you get in at the desk at check in day, and I would think requests should be given more weight to someone who requested them 11 months ago and not when they pull up to the front desk.
As I've said before, DVC should give priority to members who own at THAT resort regardless of when they reserved followed likely by cash, other DVC members then exchangers. Like essentially every other floating unit timeshare in the world.

Actually it is a big problem for DVC, far larger than for the hotels. Any any variable complicates it far more. Remember that the sold out resorts are just that, sold out. They should be theoretically full most all the time. Even hotels don't guarantee 100% of their rooms. If you book N/S, they might only guarantee 80% (just to pick a number) and after that they tell you it's not guaranteed. Since most places are not 100% full, even when "sold out", it rarely presents a problem.

Just curious - why do you say cash customers will/should come before other DVC members?

If I were doing it, I'd give owners preference at their home resort based on when they booked (but they'd have to make their entire reservation with home resort points to qualify for that - no "combo" bookings would qualify) . I would not guarantee any requests for anyone else unless required by law - i.e., ADA.

I would consider a guarantee for non-smoking or smoking for all but ONLY IF IT WAS STRICTLY ENFORCED. To me there is no point having a category for this if the CMs will allow smokers to smoke in non-smoking units (and they nearly always do if they get a complaint or are asked). IMHO, Disney's policy on this is very wishy-washy.

Best wishes -

Simply because it's the realities of cash customers. Most timeshares give priorities in the order I stated. But I could easily see moving them down the ladder. Remember that many cash renters are actually members extending stays.
