Stand or Sit for Fireworks?

I was searching the DIS boards a couple of days ago to find an answer to a question I had and stumbled upon a thread reguarding fireworks and how the CMs make you stand. There was a big debate about whether or not it was for safety reasons, or to pack maximum capacity into the park. The thread was from June.

Now I just read that sometime within the last week people were laying out blankets and towels to sit on!

What gives? Is Disneyland only safety conscious during peak season due to the parks being busier? Was the standing nixed due to complaints? Next June will I have to sit (I want to bring a blankie!) or stand (I'll watch it from my hotel!)

Ummm, why did it post this twice? Is there a way to delete one? Sorry!!

on my last visit i watched the fireworks from DIRECTLY in front of the castle. we got there about 2 hrs ahead of time and sat on the sidewalk. it was ABSOLUTELY worth it. now to answer your question: you can sit there on blankets and towels UNTIL the show starts and THEN they make you stand up to watch them. you don't have to stand the entire time while you wait. they set out ropes to separate the sidewalk from the street and keep the crowd moving during the show. do it. even if you only do it once its worth it.:thumbsup2

Interesting....

Last year at WDW we were at the Halloween Party and had sat down with LOTS of others in front of the castle (this was at end of September so a low crowd time). That doesn't mean the people don't try and come and stand in front of you AFTER the fireworks had started...then get mad when you ask them to move because they are blocking your view. Then move back...others tell them to move and they go huffing off.

Guess when we go in June 2010 we will sit and then stand!

On Saturday we were on Main Street right behind the hub - about 45 minutes before the show, they made everyone stand up and move forward.

We were along the curb with strollers just behind some benches, so I stayed sitting as we could not move up. Also the people on the benches did not have to stand. But we got our spot almost 2 hours early (little one was sleeping in stroller anyway, so I camped out). Not sure how early the bench folks arrived.

Early, before the sun has set. We did it for the Magical show (which was not worth the wait - bring back Remember!) and it was about 2.5 hours before show start. It was during one their preview shows so it seemed a little more important and special.

My experience has been that around 9pm the castmembers begin to ask crowds to stand, and they do come around before to warn everyone that around ten to nine, 9pm they will be asking people to stand. But before then you are welcome to sit. I've seen cast members at the security check deny portable chairs.

I do feel it's safer to stand while you are in such a large crowd, people get really carried away and many lack common sense so that mix can't be trusted from the ground.
