I am determined that we will become DVC memebers in the next couple of years. Tonight I started on my mission to convince DH. I told him the basics and the price for a 150 point contract for SSR at present, and after the initial 'How much?' he realised that was a very reasonable amount for almost 2 weeks every year at WDW until 2054. At the moment we only plan on going once every 18 months to 2 years.

So that is stage 1 complete, he agrees it's a good buy for our onsite WDW addiction. I know he already likes all the resorts as I've shown him the piccies and we have visited a few of them. :thumbsup2

My aim is that when we go to WDW next year we will be attending a presentation and hopefully signing up, although i don't really want to think what the state of play will be by then. Do you think SSR will still be the current resort?

TandCmum,

I like your style ;)

It took me 1 year to convince my DH. He also was "able to see the light" after I showed him the numbers...men are easy to convince with numbers :teeth:

Sending you some :wizard: to help the process along!

Alot of evidence points to SSR sales not going as well as advertised. I think the resort will be selling through 2008 at this point.

Are you converting points to pounds or something?? Two weeks a year on 150 points? Is that possible? :confused3

Congratulations! My DH didn't need convincing! He was sold on it before I was! And we actually agreed on the when and how! :cloud9: We made our first steps this past weekend and called the Timeshare store for more info!! We have a definite plan in mind and hopefully, by this time next year, we will be DVC Owners!!

I have lots of questions, but I feel like I have lots of time to lurk on the boards and get info...

Would they really be raising the price if that were the case?

12 days at SSR in the lowest season in a studio would be exactly 150 points. 95 points per week, plus 11 points per night Sunday through Thursday. So you could check in on a Sunday, stay the entire week including the weekend, and not leave until the following Friday.

Of course, you'd have to be willing to travel in the lowest season, but it's definitely doable!!!!!

<chuckle> I'm in a similar boat with my hubby. He's reluctantly agreed to become DVC owners but he wants to wait about 18 months - 2 years, for some good reasons I have to admit.

I gave him all the facts and figures and perks and he still was -- hmmm don't think so.

My trump card was, " Honey, when was the last time I said I wanted something and damn the price?"

Him- "never"

Me- " And when we bought the house, we got the one you wanted right? and the SUV you wanted right? and your hobbies cost us several thousand more a year than mine right?"

Him -"yeah all true and this leads to...?"

Me-" then I've been saving up! Aren't I due for something I want?" :teeth:

Him- " so I can agree now, or we fight over this for 2 years and my life is miserable til I say yes?" :badpc:

Me - <hugs hubby> "you do understand! I love you!"

him- <sigh> "love you too dear - okay YES but theres conditions..."

:teeth: :rotfl:

and that truely is close to verbatim to the conversation. Once we buy in I really think he'll decide we need a contract at VB or HH in addition to whichever WDW resort we buy :p

PLease keep us informed of your progress!

Thats my workings out, if we pay cash for the other weekend or stay 2 nights at a value that is our 2 week holiday each year.

Of course I have only told him the basic price so far, ideally I would like 200 or more points ;) so we can at least get a look in at the 1 br. 300 would be ideal but that might just be stretching it a little!!!!!

But remember that there might be a year or two that you can't or don't go to WDW, so you could bank your points and then you'd have 300 once in a while!!!!

Yes the would. Raising price per point creates a false appearance of sales going well. DVC guides also use the price going up as a "hard sell" tactic. They will say " Just wanted to let you know the price is going up to $$$ on such and such a date. They seem to just mention it like they are doing you a favor. Also if sales are going so well, why did they have the F&F discount bringing the price down to the $83 dollar range? Hopefully Dean will weigh in here because I felt just like you did, but Dean and others swayed me. I really think sales are behind schedule.
