Stacie's Journey for Weight Loss and the 1/2 Marathon Jan 09!

Nice job with the workouts!

Did you end up running last night?

Hey guys...

No, I didn't run last night. It was so pretty, but I just wasn't in the mood to run. By the time I got out of the house (went to visit my SIL and talked DVC...) it was dark. I walked for 30 min. It technically wasn't a run day, but I still feel a little guilty. :guilty:

I got into work really late today so I don't think I'll make it to the aquacise class tonight. ugh. Whenever my work schedule gets off, so does my workouts.

It seems like something comes up every week to throw off my schedule! It's so irritating! I wish I could workout mid-day. That's when I'm the most motivated. By the time I get home, I'm just so worn out from working... My job just doesn't have that flexibility. There are nice sidewalks around here, but I don't think they would appreciate me coming back in all stinky and stuff. lol!

Tomorrow night is my first run of the week. It's for 3 miles. I hope to get home in time to get my run in before it is too late! Fleet Feet is having a Ladies night w/ 20% off the clothes, 10% off shoes... It doesn't start until 6 though. I'm hoping to run by and get some "support" for the girls. The name brand I buy is pretty expensive...well, aren't they all! :goodvibes So, I need to take advantage since they are 20% off!

On an non-training front...Dh and I were looking into DVC. It is with a sad, heavy heart that we decided that right now is just not the time. :sad1: They had a great incentive and it was so hard to give up free points. But, I just did not want to stretch our budget. I hope one day to be able to do it...especially if I keep doing races there. So sad, so sad...

Hope everyone has a great day!

Hey Stacie! Glad you had a great time on vacation!

I know what you mean - how hard it is with keeping a set workout schedule. Life is always throwing stuff at us. :headache: Being able to run at lunch is HUGE for me. Otherwise my only other choice would be 5:30 am. When the summer heat hits, that's probably when I'll be running. Ugh, don't want to think about it.

Good luck with your run tomorrow. :goodvibes Here's hoping for some beautiful weather. :goodvibes

Thanks so much for your continued support on my journal. I'm still not back on track with visiting all of my friends' journals...but I'm tryin'.:)

Hi Stacie :)

Good luck with your 3 Mile run tonight!!! I hope you have a great one! :goodvibes

Like you....being away REALLY messed up my workout schedule and I've done next to nothing for DAYS now :(. I've really fallen off the wagon so to speak. So don't worry...it happens to everyone. Just get out there tonight and you're right back on track!

As for DVC...sounds like you made a sound decision. I do love it...but the yearly maintenance fees can be stressful and I'm not sure I'm getting the most bang for my buck lately. I *LOVE* disney...and *LOVE* the DVC villas...but I have to say that with all the incentive packages including free dining...park tix, etc....sometimes I just wish I was able to go that route. In the end I'm not sure if it was the right choice for me. But I bought a LONG time ago when my life was different...so things do change and you guys may find in a few years that it's a great investment for you! :thumbsup2

Have a great week Stacie. And as always...THANK YOU so much for stopping by my journal and offering your support and friendship. :goodvibes

Hey y'all!

So...I've had a really hard time getting back into the swing of things since vacation. So, I bought socks!

I did make it to Fleet Feet last night and ordered some support for the girls, bought a couple packs of gels and new sockies!!! yay for new running socks! I LOVE these socks. They are the most comfortable things ever! They are the Zulu brand... 3 pair for $12. "Made for the Warrior" anyway... I was so ready to get home and run after my new socks!

Got out there did 3 miles. Lost the motivation! It took 48 minutes!!! I was so let-down after that run. My time was just horrible! :headache: At least I did get it in ... in my warrior socks! :goodvibes I left my new orthotics in...Did I mention I had custom made orthotics from my chiro? So, I've had them a week, and I wear them daily. I assumed it was ok to run in them... NOPE! They provide much more arch support and OMG!!! At the end of 3 miles, I took my shoes off and could barely walk my arches hurt so bad! I just wanted to cry! I iced them, threw on my crocks and then went for dinner. They are much better today.

So...that's about all I have to report for today. No workout for me tonight except to watch Jordan (DN) play basketball. It should be cute. It's students vs. the teachers!

Have a great you guys!
Stacie

Hiya Stacie...

My take on DVC...I think it's a cool thing to be a part of, and there are certainly a lot of perks and benefits...but Disney has been SO aggressive with their packages lately that you'd really have to sit down and figure out if it's worth your $$ or not. Decide how much time you spend at the resort compared to the parks, how many trips you plan on taking to Disney each year and compare that with how much you'd spend if you weren't a member. I really think you can have a great experience at WDW either way. (guess that wasn't so helpful, now, was it LOL)

Congrats on the socks! I wonder why the orthotics hurt so much when running though? I thought they were supposed to be left in all the time? Are there special ones for just running? I'm confused on that one...but I would say to do what feels best :goodvibes:

Don't worry about your running time...at least you got out there and did it. That's the important thing. Somedays are easier and faster than others. Besides, you logged more minutes for your team by ending up a bit slower ;)

Have a good day!

Hi Stacie, your feet made my feet hurt, OUCH! I hope they are feeling better. You'll get back in the swing of things as your life settles down post vacation. I agree with ScoJo15's DVC take. I know we love ours but right after we bought, dh's company hit hard times and given that I sometimes wonder if dumping that money into a vacation tool was wise! So I think you made the right choice. DVC is here to stay, you can always buy later, they ALWAYS have some deal going. My best advice is to buy where you want to stay, its getting harder and harder to book past the 11 month window. I love ours but the sleepless nights our purchase gave me in the beginning when I though dh's company might go belly up were very stressful. Worked out fine but then again, if we hadn't bought the relief of not doing so would have been nice too! You guys are so young, you have lots of time!

Hey Stacie!
I guess i never guessed that socks were so important -- but now you have me craving new socks!!! LOL :) Anyway, don't stress about your time on the run, be PROUD that you got 3miles in!!! Think back to a few months ago --- did you EVER think then you would be running 3 miles!?
So, don't be down on yourself!!

Hi Stacie,

I'm sorry to hear that the arches on your feet hurt. How are you feeling today?

Hope you have a great weekend!

HI guys!

So...I got home yesterday and as I walk in the house, there is a gift bag. Inside is a note. It's a plain white piece of paper from DH and it says something to the effect of how proud he is of me, how he appreciates everything I do for our marriage, how much he loves me... and then there is a clue. "I have the best live growing thing sitting on me in your house. FInd that livign thing and open me up" I actually walked through the house 3 times and had to re-read it three times before it "clicked" We have a little stand that we have plant sitting on. It opens up. So..I go, open it up and inside is a Garmin 305! WOW!

The note was nice enough! Very heart-felt and something I really needed. :lovestruc But the Garmin...yay! :cloud9: I get to test it out tomorrow on my run! I'm so excited. It will be very good that I can track my heart-rate too.

Tonight we go on a double-date with my BIL/SIL. It's to a new fancy place we've never been before. My boss gave me a $100 gift certificate for there so we will try it out.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend!!!
Stacie

Hi Stacie
what a lovely thing for your DH to do :)
sounds like you have one in a million there!
I'm gonna look into socks too!! I just wear any old thing!!
Hope you enjoyed the meal :)

Hey Stacie,

Your DH is so sweet. I'd say keep him.;)

Have fun testing out your Garmin. I love mine. Don't worry about your run the other day. We all have days where it just doesn';t click. Your day is over now, so enjoy your run.

Take care,
Beth

Hi guys!

Dinner Saturday was interesting... A bit different, but nice.

I did get to test out my new garmin on Sunday. I had 4.5 miles scheduled, but only got in 4 due to getting started late. The garmin said my pace 14:47. How I don't know, because I had an absolutely horrible run. I hated the entire thing! I wanted to quite and just go home...well, instead of circling the cul-de-sac, just keeping on walking straight into the house! I had no energy. I acutally walked most of it. I started out running, trying to be in a good frame of mind, but those little thought demons took over. "why am I doing this? maybe I'm not cut out for this, maybe endurance running is not my thing, what have I gotten myself into? how am I supposed to complete the Minnie and not get swept, let alone the 1/2 marathon!" This is what kept going through my head. I just didn't have the "push" in me. I did do a few "speed" intervals. ie...running from one mailbox to the next as fast as I could. I did this twice. I swear, it seems like I never have a good run. On Friday, I only did 1 mile instead of two! ugh. :headache: Where is my push, my motivation, my endurance???

I just want to get out there, run a descent pace and feel good. Really...Is this so much to ask?

I do know part of my problem on Sunday was fueling. I found out real quick before the run that I don't do gels! I jumped out of bed (actually the couch) and since I was running late, did not have time to eat. I read to try a gel 15 min before the run. So, I thought ok...I'll try it out. NOPE. I didn't even get it 1/2 way down before it came back up. So, I ended up going out with just water alone.

Over all, this was a very poor week for me. I did not get in my XT and my runs were just horrible.

It's a new week though and I go the chiro tonight and then straight to the gym. I've decided to try to do the elliptical to work on my cardiovascular endurance instead of the bike. I get more miles on the bike, but I feel like the elliptical is better over-all workout. This WILL be a good week of training. I am just going to have make myself get it done. No more slacking!

Today I ate horrible, but that is over too! I found out my so beloved boss is resigning today! :sad1: It took me completely by suprise! It will be intersting to see what happens over the next few months and to see how it all shakes out. He'll be here for a few more months. He's not going to another company, just taking time to spend with his family. He's got young kids and wants to be more involved with them and his parents are aging and their health is deteriorating...

So, that's about all from my world for now...

Hey...anyone heard of Living on Live foods??? You pretty much don't eat anything that is cooked and you only have to "cook" / prepare the foods twice a week? My boss's wife is trying this new way of eating...

Stacie

Hi Stacie,

I am sorry you had a bad week! That happens but it really stinks when it does. The important thing is that you are getting right back on track. Its okay to have doubts, you wouldn't be human if you didn't. Its just part of the process of change, and you have changed! You are so much healthier and stronger. At one time you probably would have never thought you could come this far but you have! You'll get there, run at a more than decent pace and you will feel good because you will know you worked hard to achieve that goal and made it happen!

I agree, your dh sounds like a real keeper, just what you deserve to have! I hope you get a new boss you like as well as this one.

Just keep on doing what you are doing, you can do it Stacie!

I second everything Amy said.... You are doing such a great job, Stacie! I know that sometimes the doubts will come in, but look at how much you have already accomplished!:thumbsup2 I know that you can do ANYTHING that you put your mind to. You CAN do it, Stacie!:cheer2:

That was sooo nice of your DH to give you the note and the Garmin!:thumbsup2

Hope you have a great week!

Hi Stacie
Sorry you've had a bad week with training - although i think it was a good week - to keep going when you felt like you wanted to stop is awesome, you might not have had the energy but you tried your best & kept going,
So well done :)

Hi Stacie,

How are you liking the Garmin. I know that when I first started using mine, I was obsessed, and I kept checking it. Now, I don't focus on it so much, and I like it better.;) How did the elliptical go?

You are doing great. I know that you had a bad week, but go back and reread the first few pages of your journal. You will see how far you have actually come.

Beth

Thanks guys! :grouphug:

So, Monday, I did XT. 20 min on the elliptical and 20 min on the bike. I wanted to to all elliptical, but my left calf started acting up. :headache: Still got in 40 min total so that was a good thing. yay! I went to the chiro and I always feel better when I leave from there. As soon as she started feeling on back she says "so, someone increased their mileage huh?" Funny! Yep, she was right, and back was telling on me! :goodvibes

Tuesday was a no-go to the gym. Got in to work late. Just not motivated... therefore, we had to work late.

Today again...late to work. Do you see a pattern here??? So, I knew I would be getting home late tonight. So terribly late, but I knew I probably wouldn't want to run and it didn't want to have to fight it. I packed up my clothes and brought them with me to work. Instead of taking a lunch today, I had Matt bring me chick-fil-a. I ate at my desk. I decided I would go for my run around 2pm. I only had to do 2 miles today so though...hey, why not. I managed it. It was sooo windy! geez! I think I heard 20 mph winds! I walked a lot of it... Part of it was at a slight incline that you don't really notice in the car. I did 2 miles in 28:30. It said a 14:16 pace. yay! I thought it would be much worse than that. But, I'm happy. Yay for the Garmin!!! I would have never done this before the Garmin because I wouldn't have time to get in the car and drive it. My face is sooo red! This isn't something I'd do every week, but in a pinch it works. No showers or anything here, but I did manage a bird-bath in the ladies room so I wouldn't be so stinky! :upsidedow

My eating this week is still off, but I'm outta change here at work which means no snacking. If I have the cash, I'm a sucker for that vending machine. The key...NO $$$.

Anyone watching Dancing w/ the Stars??? I love that show! I was flipping between One Tree Hill, Biggest Loser, Dancing with the Stars, and American Idol last night!

Thanks everyone for your continued support!!! Love you guys!
Stacie

Hi Stacie!

Just wanted to say great job getting out there for your run today!! It takes some dedication to pack up the gear, take it to work and then run during the work day. Plus, your calf hurt but instead of packing in the XT on Monday night, you chose the bike to finish your 40 minutes up. That's pretty awesome! Way to go Stacie!

I may have missed it, but what kind of gel did you try before your workout the other day? There is a big difference in how they taste...just curious as to which one you tried.

Have a good day!

Hey Scott!

For the gel...I wasn't sure, so I did a search for it online to see if I could find it.

It was a Cliff Shot, flavor was Razz. That one definately did NOT work!

I have one more in a different flavor as well as an Accel Gel. I only bought those two name brands. I got them from Fleet Feet to try.

If you or anyone else has any suggestion... I'd love to hear it! I have 5 miles scheduled for Sunday. I think I'll need something.

Thanks!!!
Stacie
