Stacie's Journey for Weight Loss and the 1/2 Marathon Jan 09!

...Boy was it Hot! It should not be 80 degrees at 7am! That is just wrong. It's only June!

The weather man said there is a cool front coming through. ONLY 98 today instead of 102. really? ONLY??? lol!

Take care all!
Stacie

the grass is always greener eh???
its below 50 here - in june!!! a 10 degree drop from last week!!!

We need to swap weather Stacie ;)

Tracey...I would definately take your weather for the 5K tomorrow! lol!

I wanted to report that I did C25K W1/D2 yeterday. It was slow, but it was pretty smokey here from the wild fire on the coast. The wind was blowing the smoke our way. It went ok...and it's done.

Today, the smoke is better! Yay! I was starting to get a little concerned about the 5K and running in smoke, but it all looks good today.

My goal is to complete the 5K in less than 42:58 as that was my last 5K time, but with the lack of training and the heat, I'm not feeling too confident.

My doc's office called and my Vitamin D level is really low. I have to take a supplement for the next 8 weeks and get tested again. She said that a lack of Vitamin D will not allow your body to absorb calcium and I've heard somewhere that calcium can help you loose weight...hmmm

My cholesterol was a bit high too. 241.

So...I think that's about it from here. Today will be a rest day and the 5K tomorrow. Wish me luck!!!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!
Stacie

Stacie, good luck with tomorrow's 5K! Whatever time you have is a victory, don't forget that. That is wonderful you have a nice big crowd participating with you. Have fun. I agree that the course for the Minnie sounded better but at least you get to run through the castle!

Hi All. I found the below while searching for races and found it very interesting. I think we are all survivors in some fashion or form and I just thought I would share:

http://www.survivorstride.com/

The weekend of October 11-12, from dawn to dusk both days, Survivor Stride USA, a nationwide movement and walking and running event, thousands will be celebrating survival by "striding like there's no tomorrow." Survivor Stride USA, was not only created for all people to celebrate survival, but to celebrate a new beginning as well. We know that when you didn't think you were going to make it, putting one foot in front of the other took more strength and courage than you thought you had in you...but you did it!

If you're reading this, you've probably survived one of life's many challenges, you know someone who has or you know someone who is currently trying to survive. Whether it was a life-changing experience such as fighting for our country, abuse, a divorce, or a life-threatening disease such as heart disease, cancer, depression, alcohol/drug addiction, a brain aneurysm or diabetes...IT'S ALL ABOUT SURVIVAL.

We're not just about SURVIVING. We're about living and learning with compassion, passion and purpose. It's what makes us tick. Our vision was to give all SURVIVORS a way to come together to empower themselves. Our vision has become a reality. So come on...empower yourself. We're asking you to support Survivor Stride USA, not only by participating, but by emailing everyone you know to tell them about this super national event. Whether you participate in another event that weekend, you walk or run in your home, your gym or a course of your choosing, wear your Survivor Stride USA T-shirt with pride. The fee includes a commemorative Survivor Stride USA T-shirt and shipping and handling, which will be mailed to all entrants who register before September 25. Net proceeds will go towards many great causes such as heart disease research, cancer research, diabetes research, drug/alcohol addiction research, abuse prevention research, or whatever cause you designate. Just type in your cause in the specified area when you register at www.active.com.

Hi Stacie,
Great job out there.Wasn't that heat a killer? It can't be any hotter this summer.

Glad you had a great time at Jimmy Buffett's concert.I would love to see him but not a fan of the environment(of people) that go to see him.Not a fan of listening to drunk people try to outsing the singer.LOL!

I saw you mentioned Pilates for Dummies-where did you find one?

Linda

Hi Stacie

Good luck in the 5k (sure you dont need it though ;))
That is such a lovely thing you've done for Amy - wearing her moms name
I hope you can post pics :)

Hi Stacie,

I thought about you on Saturday and hoped the race was going well. Thanks so much for putting my mom's name on your shirt, I told my brother and he said to tell you thank you! You are the best.

Hello All! How is everyone???

I am totally irritated w/ myself. LTO last night so no aquabox! :furious: I did manage about a 1/2 hr of the PT exercises and stretching though. Still...it's not the same. Then...this morning, I was sleeping so good, I could not get myself out of bed to C25K (Week 2). I didn't even get to work until 8:30. There is absolutely no excuss...just laziness. ugh. So...We will work til 5:30, rush home, I will get through my 30 min of C25K then rush off to a meeting at 7:30. I am determined to get it in, but now it's all rushed and there is more of a chance of something coming up yet again...

Have I mentioned that my hair is falling out? I thought it was just a shedding phase, but now I don't know. It happened in Dec/Jan...slowed in Feb, but now it's been back for a few months. The drain is clogged...DAILY!:scared1: I don't have much hair to begin with. It's thin and fine and does NOTHING. I've normally kept a perm/body wave in, but decided to let it grow out and give my hair a break thinking that may help. Well, it hasn't and now it just looks bad every day and it's still falling out. I don't know what to do. I'm wondering if it could be related to the gluten sensitivity/celiac thing. :confused3

Ok...Now the race. Overall it was a very nice experience. There were just over 23,700 folks there. They had 3 different 5Ks. We did the 1st one at 7am--the competitive one. We woke up at 4:30 am to get ready and drive to Raleigh. Everyone did well. I didn't do as well as I would have liked. It was hot, humid and hilly! Those hills killed me. My offiicial time was 43:38. I forgot to wear my knee brace too. But, my knee seemed to do ok. After the race, we hung around for a while. They had a mini race city w/ lots of vendors. We walked around, collected our free stuff and had a nice time. We took a long nap Saturday afternoon! Overall, a good race and a good weekend!

Amy...I don't think you can see it, but that is your mom's name.

AmyBeth...I thought of you when I took this pic! You are such an energize bunny!!!

Stacie, I thought about you all day! That is so incredible you put my mom's name on the back of your shirt. Funny thing, she always wanted to go to the Carolina's and never made it, so maybe she was there in spirit and got to see her name on your shirt! Again, thank you so much, you are truly a good friend!

Sounds like you did very well. You aren't lazy, you are tired! You can work out tonight hopefully. If not, well tomorrow is a new day.

I would call your doctor about the hair thing, it might very well be related to your celiac thing. And remember, we arer our worst critics, I doubt anyone else has noticed this at all!

Hi, sweetie. Congrats on the race - you rock!

I am not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV, but here's my opinion based on my own experience:

Your hair is falling out because you are malnourished. You are malnourished because you have celiac disease. Your antibody levels are in the 30's - mine and Tara's are, also - and normal is below 10. If you had gluten sensitivity, you would still have elevated levels, but they wouldn't be that high and your hair wouldn't be falling out. I know you've been thinking about the gluten-free/dairy-free diet, but I think this is a sign that you need to do more than think about it. You're already experiencing the fatigue (you are not lazy, you are tired!!) and muscle aches - unfortunately, all of that is only going to get worse until you change how you eat - for good. I know that's easier said than done - I have the same challenge with incorporating exercise into my routine and doing it consistently - but these problems you're having aren't going to go away by themselves. Trust me, I know.

Love you bunches, lady bug.

Susan

Great job on the 5K, Stacie!:thumbsup2 That was really nice of you to wear Amy's mom's name on the back of your shirt.

No worries about missing the workout. That's what today is for! ;)

I hope you have a great day!:goodvibes

Well done on the race Stacie - i'm very proud of you :)
definatly worth getting the hair checked out - try not to worry in the meantime though.
keep up the great workouts :)

In reading your journal, I've gotten the opportunity to reread posts or pay attention to details. So I'm going to comment on those ideas as I catch up.

Re: The Dr.'s appointment and the knee. I cannot imagine the complications and/or pain of running with a misaligned leg and different leg lengths. Are there any orthotics you could wear, in addition to the brace, that might address these issues?

Re: Jimmy Buffet. You know, I have this whole, beachy, hammocky, margarita and key-lime pie image of you now. I think YOU need to move to FL (as well).

Re: Aquaboxing/exercising. You know, the more I think about it, the better I like the idea of you getting your certification as an aqua-instructor. I don't know if you were just toying with that idea earlier, but I'm really taken with it.

Re: The 1/2 marathon course. Now, don't quote me on this, as much of my race was a blur. But I kind of liked it and didn't miss all the time in the parks. I seem to recall lots of spectators and a general buzz of excitement from the participants. It got me through, anyway, and I don't have the Minnie to compare it with.

Re: The RftC. I hope you're very proud of your time, in the hills, and the humidity. And I have very little experience in such events, but getting a PR (or matching a time) in such events seems to be difficult as it's such an egalitarian event geared toward non-racers. Anyway, I'm glad you had a great weekend. And wearing Amy's mom's name on your back...

Re: Survivor Stride. That's just darn cool. I'm tempted.

Re: Vitamin D and other supplements. Do you take any multivitamins. Is there something you should take for gluten sensitivity/celiac's. (I know that's probably an ignorant question, but I know nothing about what this diagnosis would mean for you.)

Re: The hair. I don't think I mentioned how much this would freak me out. I'm not much of a girly girl, or even very appearance conscious, but the hair....That, for me, was the hardest thing about chemo--the fear of losing hair. (I didn't, it just changed color, temporarily, and texture, permanently.) I'd definitely look into the connections with gluten sensitivity or celiac disease. (Like Susan said.) I'm going to continue to think good thoughts for you.

Stacie,
Just chiming in on the hair thing-have your thyroid checked.Or like Susan said the lack of nourishments. But that also can affect the thyroid.

Congrats on the race-the humidity puts a new spin on everything.

Have a great one,
Linda

Hey everyone!!!

So...I've been feeling pretty ugh this week. :( is the best way to describe it I guess.

I'm tired, the workouts aren't happening, the eating right is not happening and so of course the scale is not moving the right direction.

I have an appt w/ a gatrointerologist next and hope to be able to get back on track w/ my workouts. I am mentally preparing to go gluten-free. I've got my new cookbooks and we are almost done w/ the main gluten-filled stuff in our house. Things are looking to get on track...soon.

This weekend we are going to Stacy again. We're taking my newphew Jordan this time. I think Matt and my dad and my brother are going to take him out fishing and hopefully all will have a good time.

Got to run and get some work done. I'm so glad it is Friday!!! Yay!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!!!
Stacie

Hey, sweetie. Sorry you're not feeling well, but I would bet my bottom dollar you will feel a difference when you change your diet. The biggest hurdle to that is mental, I promise - once you get started, it won't be a big deal. It will just become what you do.

Hope you guys have a good time at Stacy this weekend - wish I was going with you! Pull a croaker out of Core Sound for me!

Susan

Hey Stacie. Sorry to hear about what's been going on. I really hope you start to feel much better soon. ::yes:: I'm super proud of you for running that race, in the middle of all of that. That's huge in my book! :thumbsup2

As for the hair. I too lost a lot of hair when I was seeing the nutritionist a few years ago. She explained that it was from a lack of fat (in my case). She recommended a big greasy burger every once in a while. :rotfl2: I was getting some fat in the lite italian dressing, or the lite peanut butter...but it's the BAD fat that I needed. And the hair did slowly come back. I find my hair comes out a lot in stressful times too. Not sure why my body feels that it should stress me out MORE by letting my hair go at that particular time, but it does. :rolleyes1

You're in my thoughts. Take care, girl and let us know how you make out at the doctors.

Hi guys! Well, we had a good weekend. Jordan behaved well and caught a few fisheys! Mom and I went shopping on Saturday afternoon. I spent too much, but bought 8 pieces for $100 at Cato. Everything was on clearance. I got 4 skirts, 2 tops, 1 jacket and pair of shoes. Some of the clothes there can tend to look cheap, but if you find the right fabric you can get some descent looking things for a good price. :thumbsup2

My energy level and acitivity is still down, but I do plan to get to aquabox tonight and then go to bed early. I really want to get back on track w/ my C25K on Tuesday morning. Matt has a neurologist appt so I'll have to get up super early, but really want to get it in none the less.

I have the gastrointerologist appt tomorrow and I am hopefully going into it. I'll report back on how it goes.

Hope everyone is well! Thanks for checking in and all the positive thoughts and comments!!!

Stacie

Hi Stacie,

I've recently started checking out everyone's journals and just wanted to say :wave2: over here!

I hope everything goes well at your appointment tomorrow! :wizard:

Hey, sweetie! I am so sorry for all you are coping with right now. UGH on the lack of energy, but I am hoping you will get lots of answers at the gastroenterologist. I have very fine hair and have found that when I am not taking my multi-vitamins and am not getting my healthy oils in (per the WW guidelines), I see a LOT of hair in the drain and on my clothes. It may be a very easy solution for you to add a really good multi-vitamin and to find a way to get in 2 tsp of olive oil each day.
I LOVED reading about your 5k RftC. Awesome finish time especially if there were hills! How sweet of you to have Amy's Mom's name on your shirt. You are one of the sweetest and most generous people I know.

Good luck with the C2 5k plan. It really does work. Hopefully, when your energy levels improve, you will be able to really enjoy the progress you are making in all your training efforts. :cool1:
