St Thomas/St John excursions?

Hey, Angela! This is the excursion Mike and I are taking in Sept. we can let you know how is was based on when you are going

Hi Tami! Awesome, we're going the first week in November and taking our niece and nephew along. I'm not sure the other couple going with us will want to spend that much so the St. John Trunk Bay might be another option.

Have a great time in Sept!

Fwiw traveling to St. John is at least 45 minutes each way. I translate that into 2 hours total travel time. Also the ride over can be rough at times.

My 2 cents. :)

What do you consider rough? We've all been up the Na Pali coast on Kauai when it's rough with no trouble. Would it be better or worst than that?

Looking for some excursion recommendations for St Thomas/St John. DDs are 10 and 15 years old.

- Random Wind looks interesting, but I can't figure out if it is based in St. Maarten (we are thinking of doing the Captain Bob Cass boat tour) or St. Thomas/St. John.

- We'd love to do ziplining, but Tree Liming through DCL is at 7:45 a.m. which will never happen in my family. We're lucky if we can get off the ship by 10 a.m. Can we book Tree Liming outside of DCL? Tree Liming's website said cruise passengers can only book through the cruise line and not directly with Tree Liming.

- Magen's Beach. We're not really beach people, but would consider going since it's supposed to be really beautiful.

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

We did Tree Limin Ziplines on our cruise this past April and it was awesome. We were able to book independently. Actually, we had to since our cruise was on Princess and Tree Limin was not offered as one of their excursions. I contacted them several times through their website with questions before we booked. They were always quick to respond, and answered my questions completely. I would suggest going on their website and asking them if you can book a different time. Can't hurt to ask!
We would go there again. I usually prefer to try new things, but this was worth repeating. We had a great time there! Their safety proceedures and equipment were excellent, the zips were really fun, and the views were amazing!

No experience in Hawaii for us.

Great specific question..... Totally variable but .....

What do I consider rough? You don't want to know. It funny how it's all relative. lol.

Some days the seas are 1 foot and wind variable at 5 knots.
Some days the seas are 6 feet with winds out of the NW at 20 knots.
Odds are sea state will be somewhere in between. duh. :rotfl2:

What few mention is if sea state is unfavorable, you will not be sailing to St. John. It happens. Rarely though.

We have sailed on the what, 30 - 60 foot cats in 8 foot seas to St John. Brutal, yet memorable. Also been there in 6 inch seas too. Rare, but it happens. Funny thing is we don't recall that sailing. lol. Of course we are always on the little boat in high seas, and the big boat in small seas. Go figure. :lmao:

You have to consider the vessel of conveyance to accurately determine your specific inquiry that are implied in the transfer.
Some are larger than others. Some are smaller. Also hundreds of passengers are conveyed weekly w/o any problem. Keep that in mind.
In others words, ignore my rant. lol.

As PP mentioned it is well worth the visit if you are willing to loose 2 hours travel time and play the sea state game. We choose that game every other time fwiw. And occasionally play it be ear at the last minute based on weather reports.

Of course some of our cat experiences are those that still resonate to this day. That is worth noting, as is my Sandy experience. Isn't all about unforgettable memories, is it not?

Oh, does that not involve high seas for all?

Also if sailing on the Fantasy with it's usual limited time in St Thomas, one must figure this timing into their schedule, IMO.

Good Luck to all, and may you have small seas. :)

We did the Eco Tour on St. John. I liked it very much.

The ride to St. John was a bit bumpy, but we were on the top deck of the boat outside in the fresh air - wear sun screen.

The hike was not strenuous and we got to stop and swim for about 1/2 hour. It was a nice, different type of tropical excursion. And we could walk off a few of those extra pounds we put on.

St. John is the prettiest island I've seen.

Thanks Bear3412 I appreciate the comparisons. I agree it's something to consider with the limited time in port.

:offtopic: I'm sure the Sandy experience was memorable and I'm not sure I'd want to be that up close and personal. We've came into PC during a lower class hurricane on the Dream and we were rocking and rolling.

Question about the Full Day Sail and Snorkel to Turtle Cove and Honeymoon Beach: Do they always use the same boat? Would love to be on one of their "pirate ships", but see they might also use a catamaran.

They do use different boats, depending on how many people are signed up. We were lucky enough to be on Bones, which was a pirate schooner.

We had the "Bones" also......great time...greater rum punch......greatest crew.......even saw and swam with sea turtles. Still have great pictures. Everytime this is brought up it brings back great memories...Thanks:lovestruc

We just finished up a 7 day cruise on the Fantasy and we rented wave runners in St. Thomas. We did not book through Disney but Matt at 340 WaterSports gave us a good time. 340 Watersports is in Bolongo bay which is about a 10 minute cab ride from the port. 340waterspoorts.com
