St Thomas cabs

Can I really trust the St Thomas cab drivers? Since it's just DS and myself I was thinking of taking the DCL excursion to Coral World. How easy would it be to take a taxi? Are these private taxis or other people also?

I've taken many St. Thomas taxis and have lived to tell about it. Sometimes, you have private taxis, but many are vans or even bigger trucks with covered seating in the back (it's not as bad as I've made it sound, it's actually quite comfortable). Usually there are a line of taxis on the pier, and sometimes the driver will wait a bit to fill up with people going to the same place. This is especially true for taxis going to downtown, Magens Bay and the Red Hook ferry.

I'd say just grab a taxi to the beach. This way you're on your own schedule, not the excursion's. Many drivers will arrange a time to come pick you up, but finding a taxi is never a problem.

I agree, they are easy to find and not as expensive as DCL excursions. We were charged $7 pp one way. For the 2 of you, then it would be $28 round trip total. And hold on tight, the drivers "know da roads well, and speed like nuts, mon !"

Coral world is connected to Coki Beach........very pretty. If you tell the driver to pick you back up at a certain time, he will. But we prefered to leave when we felt like it....and there are always taxi's there, too.

Go ahead and take the taxi to Coki Beach/Coral World. It will be much cheaper and easier. I wouldn't bother to arrange for the driver to pick you back up, there are PLENTY of taxis waiting to take people back. When we were there we rode to Coki Beach on a taxi that a family was taking an Island tour on. We got a very nice tour all the way to Coki Beach. On the way back there was no tour, but we arrived safe and sound.

You can definitely take a taxi to Coral World. It will be cheap and convenient. The St. Thomas taxis do try to fill up their cabs before taking off but it doesn't take that long. And you will be able to get a taxi back, no problem.
