We are invited to a St. Patty's Day party and are asked to bring something. They are providing the cornbeef & cabbage as well as all beer. I want to bring something original. Any ideas? Google wasn't too helpful. TIA!

Just off the top of my head; shamrock sugar cookies, Irish soda bread w/ Irish butter, Irish cheese w/ crackers.....

I like to make Shepherds Pie for St Patricks Day. I made this recipe for a party and everyone raved about it. I basically used the recipe for the meat filling and made mashed potatoes (not using the recipe). It's easy and can be made ahead.

This recipe is from a pub owned by the Irish Rovers famous for Puff the Magic Dragon and the Unicorn song. It's fun to sing the songs while making the dish! :thumbsup2

Here is the recipe for the brown bread served at Raglan Road. The bread is a bit dry so I add raisins and the Guiness reduction is really good!

Here is the Raglan Road bread pudding that is always raved about too:

Check with the host to see if potatoes are going to be included in the corned beef and cabbage dish.

If not, make champ or colcannon.

I am making Watergate Salad for a party I am going to. Its a pretty shade of green!

WATERGATE SALAD (GELATIN DESSERT)

20 oz. can crushed pineapple
1 (3 oz.) pkg. instant pistachio pudding
1 c. miniature marshmallows
2 c. whipped topping
1/2 c. walnuts

Mix pineapple with the powdered pudding mix. Add whipped topping, marshmallows and walnuts. Stir until well mixed. Chill until cool and firm. This dessert cannot be molded. Walnuts may be omitted

This website is definitely geared more towards food for kiddos, but there were some cute ideas that might work for a party.

What about spinach dip, with lots of green veggies for dipping? Or you can make a rainbow out of different colored veggies and have a bowl of hummus (dyed gold of course) at the end.

This is a great idea, and I have seen some small black "pots" at Party City to hold the "treasure"! Maybe add a few gold plastic coins and a small leprechaun around for added decor.

Baileys cream is gorgeous poured over good quality vanilla ice-cream for a cold dessert or make bailies coffees if you want something hot! It's so cold here in Ireland on St Paddys day we always go with the "something hot".
Irish stew or potato bread are also good.

I have a recipe for brownies made with guinness that might be good. soda bread would be an great choice but I wonder how many others might go that route. baileys is always welcome in my world! :)

I would do Guiness or Kells marbled cheese. Its pretty unique and I love the taste!

Irish Soda bread is easy and delicious. Baileys over ice cream sounds SO good!

Irish soda bread!!!!! That's what we're having for our menu on St. Pat's day. Irish soda bread, cornbeef, cabbage and potatoes.

I've been around 'real traditional Irish' people for several years durring St. P day in the past and depending on HOW into it the party thrower and attendees are, you may want to do an Irish traditional food/beverage. I, myself, am not totally crazy into St. P day, but there are some that are and if the food isn't authentic and Irish, they'd be dissapointed! I brought shamrock cookies once and one person told me "Just cause it's green, it don't make it Irish! (we live VERY CLOSE to a town that has a large % of authentic, real, totally traditional Irish...and my BIL's wife is Irish- her parents are ticked if someone brings something that is not traditional!!! Not that everyone is like that, but some are!!!)" So, after that I learned my quick soda bread and butter spread recipe! That is my 'go to' Irish traditional food if I need to bring it somewhere.

Guiness is also good, but expensive...Irish cream liqour of any type would be good over ice cream (as a previous person posted). Irish coffee (coffee and good whiskey with a little cream on top) is good.

Another easy party favourite is to mash some potatoes with chopped cooked bacon (or champ-which is potatoes and scallion) and the pack into vol-u-vent cases. You just reheat them in the oven at the party and they're finger food so easy to eat and chat at the same time.

forgot to say potato and leek soup is another favourite here (served in cups if there's loads of people) or beef and guiness stew. Hope you let us all know what you decide on and have fun at the party:)
