I just noticed we'll be at WDW on St. Patrick's Day (probably at Epcot). Should I expect anything special goings-on?

--Heidi

We were at WDW in 2004 and didn't notice anything different. About the only thing was a tiny amount of merchandise and a few St. Patricks Day pins.

Some of the restaurants had green beer, and some of the CMs around the resort wore green hats, or ties. That's about all we have ever seen.

:confused3 Being from chicago area, where St. patrick's is celebrated about as big as xmas, We where there this year and LOOKED for something special to do. We asked for about a week leading up to the big day, and still could barely find a happening. Had some of the most interesting answers to any ? I have ever asked a cm thou.

At Mk, city hall: asked about the big day = The older lady cm, basically unsure as to why I would expect anything special on that day? Its NOT a holiday. So I told her about the chicago festivities of parades, parties, dying the river green, etc... and she said "your kidding" never heard of it" I said fine, is any resturants having a corn beef dinner special then? No not that we know of. So I said, I would guess England must be doing something special, and she said "why?" (I am not kidding) I then explained that Ireland was part of the british empire. :listen: 2 other cm's that come over and at this point had tried to help in the conversation, but the #1 cm really had a probablem with the whole thing?

At mgm = office: Cm from south america, brazil was "helping me" never heard of it, and no help. I don't think his english was very good yet, and no one else there to ask.

At Epcot = office: told to ask at England
At England= The outside desk guy was not sure, this was the day before, so he called the kitchen. The Head chef, SO EXCITED that we had asked came outside to meet us, and ask, said absolutely he planned a special corned beef / cabbage dinner. and went into detail about his creation. Unfortunately, he was going gourmet and not traditional. He was putting some kind of sauces on everything? and not your usual boiled type dinner. So we choose not to eat there either.

We where told that PL was having a green beer party that nite, but not interested.

This year there will be that new Disney Irish Pub opening, that would be a really good idea! ;)

We wound up waiting till we got home and had our dinner belated. :rolleyes1 And yes they sell alot of disney pins with st. pats on them.

I forgot about the Irish Pub coming. By next St. Pat's, it should be bustling. That would be the place to go that night, for sure!

I also forgot about the Irish pub. We were there in June, and it looked like it had some ways to go before it is finished, The old venue was totally gutted, and there was not much in the way of new stuff,{walls, electrical work, etc.} but I suppose they can work some of their Disney "magic" and get it done fairly quick. Anyway, I guess that will be the place to go next St. Patty's day.

Yep, definitely try out the new Irish pub at DTD which will be open by then, but if in Epcot earlier that day, try the Canada pavilion as well as the UK. St. Pat's is big in Eastern Canada and apparently in Montreal, so Canada may be featuring something that day (or maybe Le Cellier is too gourmet as well???) Also, Off-Kilter may be more Scottish than Irish but hey, they're Celtic and probably will play some Irish tunes!

If all else fails, you can always get an Irish hug from me. And it doesn't even have to be St. Patrick's Day!

Best wishes.

Just bumping the thread up. St Pat's is our wedding anniversary and we often spend it at WDW. We've also looked for a special party and haven't found much.

I have been known to stop by the Rose and Crown and have a Guinness or two. You know, my own private celebration. ;)

We too have been on St. Patricks Day and found nothing extra special. Sure did see a lot of Old Navy St. Patricks Day T-shirts though. Every where you turned there was a group of people and everyone was wearing that shirt.

Purchased a few special pins, but that was it.

Of course if it makes you feel better, they didn't do much for Valentines Day either.

Purchased a few special pins on that day too and a mug that said Happy valentines Day.

Usually Pleasure Island has a St. Patty's day party.

The absolule best St. Patricks day party is over at Pat O'Brians, in City Walk.
They have food, leprachauns, music, beads, all sorts of fun stuff. We love it. Espcially when the holiday falls on a weekend, then is is great, very family oriented during the day hours. Have never been in the evening when the holiday in on weekdays.
