Looking for most educational tour for 8 year old twins. Is this good or the under 2 flags tour? They have never been out of the country so we think they will be interested in exploring the surroundings. Would love to hear from folks who have been on these tours! Thanks again!

We did the St Martin Butterfly tour. Our DD who was 9 enjoyed it, and so did we. The people at the Butterfly Farm are very enthusiastic about their jobs. The bus took us over the island, and told us a little bit about each area. We stopped to shop at an open air market, where DH and DD bought their clothes for the tropical night. I wish our time at the Farm had been longer.

that your twins will really enjoy the butterfly farm. The employees at the farm do a nice presentation of the evolution of the butterfly from chrysalis to flight. The huge screened room is just like walking through a forest. Butterflies are everywhere.....you have to look high and low. It may be fun for them to try to count how many they see. Bring camera and video. Some of my shots are breathtaking. DH and I loved it. We had a few sprinkles of rain during the tour, the butterflies hide under the leaves of the plants. The total tour is very educating. Orient Bay is beautiful. Enjoy........;)

We did it several years back and when we went on a cruise without our children, but based on my 9 year old daughter, I feel confident that your twins will love it. I don't know what the other trip is that your considering, but the butterfly tour was educational, fun and something quite unusual. As another mentioned, the staff is quite enthusiastic, too, and quite willing to answer questions. For instance, did you know that they export the butterflies for weddings and the like? Enjoy!:p

My children will be 4 &5 when we travel. Do you think this will be something interesting to them? Other than the beach I'm having a hard time finding excursions for the entire family. Thanks!

absolutely love it. Just picture a large screen room, rain forest like plants and many species of beautiful butterflies fluttering around. The key word is *gentle*, they may land on you. How many opportunities in a childs life will they have for direct interaction with butterflies? Swimming and beaches are just part of common life. You will see the island as well on this tour. Go for it!!:)

Thanks! Does anyone know if they have a website that gives more info such as where it is? Also, can we book this on our own or is it a Disney excursion? How long will this take between travel time and time at the actual butterfly farm? Sorry for so many questions, I suffer from planner's addiction!! ;)

The butterfly tour is part of Disney's St. Maarten Island and Butterfly Farm tour excursion. It is roughly 3.5 hours and meets early around 7:30ish.($32 p.a $27p.c) It's a great way to see both sides of the island, but I suppose you could rent a car or taxi to take you to the French side of the island for the farm tour if you want to go at your own pace. I have not done it that way. I'm sure someone who has will offer some advice.:D

When we went to the Butterfly Farm last year we actually rented a car and drove ourselves. We shared the car with a couple that was originally from Russia. What an educational experience for our DD who was 5 at the time. We only paid 8 for adults and 6 for DD and the cost of the car was split...much less expensive than cost of excursion through DCL. The Butterfly Farm will charge less because they know you are not coming back in the same day or later in the week. It was a wonderful presentation and I think DD got a lot out of it...I got the most amazing pictures from this tour.
We were able to travel the island at our own pace and DD got to rest in car. We visited a sugar plantation, short visit to nude beach, ate lunch and went shopping with lots of time to return to the ship.
I hope this helps...

I recently did the tour with a 2 year old. What they don't tell you is that you are not allowed to touch the butterflys. There was a family on our tour with a 4 yo and when the little girl touched the butterfly the employee yelled at her and told her that she had killed the butterfly.

I think they should tell you ahead of time.
