Anyone live here that can help me? We are driving from Ohio to Branson, MO in about a week. We are only going about as far as St. Louis the first day, and are looking for a safe, inexpensive, clean place to stay, preferably on the west side of St. Louis. Can anyone offer any advice? Thanks so much!!

I know you said you are looking for the west side of St. Louis, but the Illinois side is probably cheaper. Look in Shiloh & O'Fallon. Almost all of the hotels in this area have been built within the past 5 years, and are located near shopping areas, and is right off of I-64.

I would have to second the previous poster. We live in Illinois & always stay just over the bridge in Collinsville, Il. Actually I just booked a room in the Days Inn, it has an indoor pool & continental breakfast - tax included for $71 per night. You can't beat that.

We are going to a Jonas Brothers concert there & looked downtown by the center & it was around $160, plus tax, plus parking. Sorry - wouldn't do it. It takes around $15-20 min to get over the bridge (unless there is a home Cardinals game that night getting out at the same time - or other events) to the hotel. To us, well worth it.

I just wanted to let you know that if you are traveling straight thru STL on 64 that there is a few miles that is closed so you will need to reroute. I am not sure of the exact streets, but I think Brentwood to Lindeburg. I hope that some one can give you the exact streets. You could google it to see what is closed right now.

You might take 64 to 270 bipass on the Illinois side... it will save you a mess further into STL. Fairview Heighs and O'Fallon have alot of places to stay on the Illinois side.

HTH!

We actually will be coming from I 70, so does that change anyone's recommendations?

There are brand new Drury Inns and LaQuintas is in Shiloh. Lots of restaraunts at the Drury Exit (Exit 16 on I-64.) If looking for the West side, I'd wait until you get to Fenton since you will likely be taking 44.

In regards to the PP, there is still a detour on 64, and the last exit is Kingshighway; however, I think the OP would be getting on I-44 to go to Branson, which is before any of the detours or construction. I'm not sure if the OP would be coming in on 64 or on 70. If on 70, try Collinsville for a hotel as PP said.

Where is fenton? I couldn't find it on the map. Thanks for all your help!

Yep, i'd keep going THROUGH St. Louis and stay in St. Charles or Fenton area. We stayed at a travelodge right off I-70 that was very nice and clean

**** From this area you'd be about 4-4.5 hours from Branson. Really, if I were making the drive from OH to Branson- I'd stop in Fenton. It's safe... Drury properties aren't very expensive and they are nice and safe. The Pear tree is more like a motel but the Drury Inns have indoor corridors, and more amenities than most Disney resorts!

St. Charles would NOT be on your way to Branson on I-44.. We regularly drive this ( we spend every other weekend in Branson/ Tablerock lake from st. Louis) I would choose where you stay based on what time you plan on coming thru the city, I'd miss the "rush Hours" if possible. Eureka, Pacific would be pretty good choices, west of st. Louis, Fenton is more easterly than those but more citylike. :hippie:

If you're coming by way of St. Louis, you may as well STAY in St. Louis and at least experience it if even for just a night. Since you're coming in on I-70, you don't need to worry about the traffic on I-64 that everyone is referring to.

Shiloh is backwards from where you want to go. You would have to get on I-64 and go east.

For Fenton, come in on I-70 West, get on I-270 South, and then take I-44 West. You will be out on the west end of the city and you'll have a nice little head start when you leave in the morning.

I have never stayed in Fenton, only driving through on our way to Six Flags, but I HIGHLY recommend Drury Hotels. The ones in St. Louis are great.

The other option would be the Drury on Olive Blvd (Creve Couer). It is RIGHT on I-270 and not far from I-44 at all. You'll see it there. It was remodeled just a few years ago and has a parking ramp. This is very close to lots of restaurants, shopping, etc. It's also connected to an Applebee's.

I think either of these locations would be very convenient for you and your family.

You can get super rates there too. Why spend $70 on a room at a Days Inn, Travelodge, Comfort Inn, Super 8, etc. when you can stay at a Drury for close to the same cost and have a HOT breakfast, indoor pool/hot tub, snacks & drinks in the evening, free long distance, internet, etc. They are also very clean hotels, and the staff there are super nice. I'm sorry - I TOTALLY sound like a commercial. I promise I don't work for then, we just really love the hotels.

I work near the Drury on Olive, Driving on I 270 to I 44 is the way that I go every other Thursday for Branson Tablerock area. Let me say, if you are going that way anywhere near 3:00 to 6:30 pm, you will be sitting in rush hour traffic and it is bumper to bumper all the way. I'd avoid that if possible. You can take I-70 directly to I-44 right after the bridge over the Mississippi River after you cross the Missouri Line. I would think that would be a better (and a bit quicker) way. I am driving home tonight and I'll check for newer hotels on the way, I think there are newer ones near Pacific. Have you tried Mapquest? Does it tell you the quickest way, I would think that the quickest way would be right thru the middle of St. Louis.

We are going on a Saturday, so will rush hour be a problem?! How far off the highway is the Drury Inn in Fenton? That sounds like a great place for us to stop. I suspect if we leave around 8 am, we will get there around 3 or so. No offense to those of you from St. Louis, but I don't think we will stop to experience it. We will have two cars and a boat...going fishing at Table Rock. Well, atleast my dad is! ;) I am going to hang out at the pool and see some friends.

I just hate trying to find a hotel in a place where I have no idea. My husband and I would just drive and wing it, but my dad is not that way!

Ok, now that you guys have given me some great tips, I was actually thinking of pricelining, to see what I get. If I put in the map, it really shows the intersection of 270/ 44 as the area around Fenton. Fenton/Kirkwood, it says. Would I be Ok doing this, or is there some places that I could end up with that would not be good? It lists the drury as a 2 star. There are some three stars too. Thanks for the help!!

We are actually staying in Ridgedale, at Big Cedar. We have a timeshare there. We will be going to Silver Dollar City, but other than that, we haven't really planned anything. Have any suggestions?

What are your plans when you get to Branson?

Part of Fenton is located right on 44 hwy at Bowles Ave. Plenty of hotels to choose from: Motel 6, Drury Inn, etc. Very reasonably priced. Just make sure you look for the hotels located at Bowles Ave off of 44 or you will be going out of your way. Once you leave Fenton, you have a 4 hr drive to Branson.

Hope this helps!!!!

The Drury at 44 and Bowles is older and right at the exit. There are restaurants right there (fast food and chain places) The one at 141 and 44 is also right at the exit. (they both overlook 44) There are plenty of restaurants there too. Local chains, national chains and fast food.
