St. John Westin

Wow Dean, The Westin in Maui is Awesome!!! We were there last Jan. Your exchange is Whale season! We had a Ocean View Studio, very nice!!! We just loved it. I own BG too. I am going to have to check into this. I would never dream it would get Maui and then the Westin. What did you deposit, if you don't mind me asking? Our time with BG floats and we can get what they have available.
I deposited a Harbour lights Deluxe 1 BR 4th of July.

Glad I looked at this post....good information for the future. Thanks!!!!

I just wanted to mention that I don't think too much of the Westin on St. John as a resort. I have stayed in the hotel section and visited the timeshare section. All of the timeshare is across a street and most is up on a hill. The beach at the Westin is one of the worst on St. John (It's hard to believe there is such a thing but this is it). The water is always cloudy and it is in a protected harbor with MANY boats. This may sound good but keep in mind that the protected harbors in the Caribbean have lots of boats in them and they dump waste directly into the ocean (it is ground up first for the most part, but not cleaned in any way). You can not snorkel at this beach as it is always so cloudy.

If you go to the Westin and are a beach person, you will want to head over to Caneel Bay or to the other side of the island every day.

I'll second this to a certain degree. While I've never been to the resort, my BIL has and I've also read a lot of revews of it. I'd knew the villas were not in the main part of the resort, but I didn't realize how much so until I saw photos my BIL brought back (they are WAY up a hill and in an area that is not as nicely landscaped as you would expect for a supposedly 5 star resort). He also described the beach as disappointing and said guests there all disappear during the day to go the better north shore beaches - which are all miles away by car or cab.

Bottom line: the best options on St. John are rentals of private, stand-alone villas and condos (the nicer ones coming with housekeeping and even cook services). A quick google seach will show many travel agencies that specialize in these.
