Do we need to pay the extra cash to go on the Leylon Sneed????
or just go on the "plain" excursion "without" the Leylon---
does that mean it's just an old "ferry"???

But I will give answering it a shot. We went on the leylond sneed a few years ago as part of the 5 star snorkle package. It was a boat not a ferry, The crew was great and I highly recommend the excursion. There was no extra charge for the boat ride it was part of the excursion price.
You can take a ferry to St. John to do excursions on your own but I don't think it would be on the leylond sneed as the boat stays with the snorklers (drops anchor and you can either snorkle right from the boat or they will jetty you to shore for walk out snorkling on little dingies) Hope this helps.

I hate to disagree with Ann (HI ANN:wave2: ) But, we have done both the 5 Star Snorkel you mentioned and St John on our own. We MUCH prefered going on our own. The excustion took a LONG time to get to Trunk Bay (about 45 min) and we only stayed there about 1 1/2 hours, then another 45 min ride back. So you spend as much time going to and from as you do at St John. When we went on our own we were there in about 1 hour, and stayed until about 2pm. (I think we took the 9:00am ferry to St John and the 2:00pm ferry back) We spent about 3+ hours at the beach at Trunk Bay and had a fantastic day! Nothing against the excursion, the crew was nice and the ride to and from pleasent, but for us it was about spending time swimming, snorkeling and relaxing on the beach, not a boat ride. Plus it worked out to be a few bucks cheaper, even with renting beach chairs, to do this on our own.
The other ST John Trunk Bay excursion with DCL uses a much faster boat. They will pass the Leylond Sneed when you are about
halfway to Trunk Bay. I think the "Leylond Steed" is the name of the boat. If I remember correctly it was the name of the owners mother.

No mater what you deside, you will have a great time at Trunk Bay. It is a beautiful place!

We just did this. The boat does take quite a long time. My family so enjoyed snorkeling that we never had time to take the dinghy over to the beach. I think I would try and find something that let you stay over there for longer.

That being said, it's a beautiful trip over and back. I got some fantastic photographs and my DD was like one of the fish snorkeling! We all thought it was very good.

We are going in two weeks and are going to do this ourselves. How did you get to Trunk Bay and how much did it cost? We are a group of 11. Do they have rafts and snorkel gear to rent do do we need to bring our own?

Thanks,

Joanne
