Hey Tom!

We have signed up for DCL's West End Highlights excursion. Haven't read any reviews of anyone who has done it on the past two St. Croix cruises so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we'll enjoy it. It goes to the Whim Estate Plantation, Cruzan Rum Distillery and Botanical Gardens. I think jbunket is on this excursion too! Join us!!!!

Hey Tom and Donna,
Bumping this thread in hopes someone from the previous 2 St Croix sailings will pipe up with some suggestions...
We are really thinking of the beach right beside the port... just so DD can get in her beach time... and still be close to all the amenities of the ship OR... going full cost to the Carombola Beach resort where there is the pool and ahem... facilities :rolleyes1 nearby for our DD.
We also thought with the road trip over to the resort we might see some of the island.
I sounds like there is not a heck of alot to do right at the port area.. so we are not sure what to do for sure.

Hi Wanda!

If I didn't want to see some of the island I would probably just go to the beach near the ship. That way I could go back to the ship any time I wanted.

I wish we would hear from more of the past cruisers to St. Croix.

Yes as Donna mentioned we too are doing the West End Highlights tour. We thought it would be a good taste of the island. I really really really wanted to do some beach trip since this is the furthest south we will be and likely the warmest water, but as I read reviews of the beaches they all sound not that great, at least for what we want out of a beach. I have 2 young children who will want to play in the water and it sounds like they all are rather rocky. So if I'm going to go to a rocky beach I might as well go to the free one right by the port. So our plan will be to do the tour then lunch back on the boat. After lunch we will change into our swimsuits and head out to the beach by port which is also rocky.

If you check out cruisecritic.com they have a St Croix forum with several links to the beaches on the island. Caramolba sounded like the beach is the same as the others but you get to enjoy the pools as well. Personally I can enjoy a pool in MN for much less so I need the beach. I won't be paying more nothing more, which Caramolba sounds like it won't be any better, unless you like pools.

Well we decided to just do the beach by the ship... we will enjoy the ship for the morning and maybe we can go for a walk to the beach and town and then head back to the boat to the pool in the afternoon.
After all we can do alot with the $239 Disney wanted for the 3 of us to go to Carombola Beach...

Can't believe we leave for FL in 6 sleeps!!!:cool1:
