Any St. Augustine,FL fans? We will be arriving there about 6:30 and have a tour at 8. Any good dinner suggestions or places we might have time to check out between those times? This will be the only chance as Wed will be work stuff.

Only visited once but we loved it. Barnacle Bills is good. There is also a good Italian place if you cross the bridge over to the little beach area (sorry don't know what else to call it) but it was not a chain, very nice and food was delicious. Wasn't off the wall expensive either. We just walked around the area where the old church and the University were. Lots of little shops, etc. in that area.

Have a fun trip!

Found these:
I really think this is the Italian place....wish they showed a picture of the building & I could say for sure.

There's a good (IMHO) Italian restaurant on St. George Street (well, kind of). The storefront on St. George Street is a pizza parlour called Pizzalley's; walk straight back through Pizzalley's, through their back patio, and there you'll find the door for their actual restaurant, whose name escapes me. I thought it was good and it reminded me of some of the Italian restaurants back here in New York.

Barnacle Bill's, while OK, is a wannabe. If you want the better original, go to O'Steen's across the bridge of Lions about a half-mile on your right - look for a tall(ish) sign with a shrimp wearing a top hat with a walking stick and tuxedo (lol - it sounds more ridiculous than it looks!). They are small so there is sometimes a wait, and they only take cash... but they are the one that all the other St. Aug places try to rip off (including hiring away cooks to work in their own kitchens). Get the fried shrimp and whatever fresh veggies you like, eat your weight in hugh puppies, and add a little bit of the datil pepper sauce from the tall red bottles on your table into the pink shrimp sauce, stir it around, and dip the shrimp in it...

I'm pretty sure that their fried shrimp are served in Heaven. I'm just sayin'. :)

If you have something else in mind PM me - we live nearby and visit a lot.

I second the vote for O'steen's. The BEST fried shrimp ever!

Alas, I have been informed that seafood ain't their bag. :( (More for us!)

Anyone know of a haunted restaurant in the old town? I've never heard of one, but I avoid the paranormal so I wouldn't know. :)

Went to St. Augustine last week and we went to the Columbia House restaurant. It was not bad but I wish now had known about O'Steen's. OP are you taking the Ghost Tour at night? If so which one are you taking? We took one last year that was not great. I wish I could remember but I think it was Ghosts and Gravyards tour. Very disappointing. They take you to the old Drug Store near the gates of the city and really you can go there yourself for free during the day. Also, they take you to a couple of places like the old jail. If I had it to do over I would take the light house at night tour. Live and learn.

Just now finding this thread again. We are going back this weekend. We did the ghosts and graveyards tour. While I was not impressed with the sites I did enjoy the humor and our guide. I LOVED her, she pulled her role off great. At the old jail I think I got a couple of orbs near the gallows but it was raining so it could be raindrops. I also got one inside near the Sheriff Perry guy. This time I want to go back to the places on the tour so I can actually see everything, it was so dark when we went. Not sure if the lighthouse tour is in the budget this time. We're mainly going for Marineland which we have scheduled for Sunday.
