The next time we go to WDW we are thinking about having a day trip to St Augustine. Has anybody been and if so would it be worth while.

Hi,will you be driving or on a tour? When we went we had some very wet weather which didnt help much,St Augustain is said to be the oldest town in Florida but remember that old in US terms is not nesesarily what we would call old. But it is a nice place.Hope this is of some use to you

We will be going on a day trip from Orlando by car

As a child I stayed in St Augustine several times in our friends condo at the beach, they lived in the town. I can't really remember what the town was like, as a kid you don't. But I do remember the beach is awesome with great waves for bodysurfing although I did nearly drown once. :rotfl2: I don't suppose that helps much but hey the beach was good!

:lmao: Thanks for the reply, not much help but gave us a laugh.:rotfl2:

We love gonig to St.Augustine, you are looking at 1 1/2 / 2 hour drive, the quickest route is I-4 then I-95, but you can take the scenic A-1 wich will take a little longer. The best way to see the old town is by the horse drawn carriages, the driver tells you all about the towns history and will also wait for you if you want to go into the church, all included in the price. Your ticket is also good for a ghost walk, never done this, but will one day. Parking is expensive and a nightmere to find!!!!!!!

We went to St Augustine last summer and had a great time.

It's certainly worth a trip although doing it as a day trip might a very long day.

We decided to spend a night there which was a good idea as it is a long drive and the I95 had loads of roadworks. We picked up a very large room in a B&B in the town for about £100.

I would recommend the sightseeing tour, the jail and the ghost tour is a must.

We did this last summer also and it was quite a doable daytrip. I enjoyed walking round the fort - you get a good feel for the history of the town there. We drove through Daytona which was cool - though stopping for 'gas' in Daytona Beach was a bit worrying (we chose not a great neighbourhood).

It was a nice day away from the parks !

Also parking is a nightmare but there is a new multistorey car park on the northern (?) edge of the old town just past the fort which is very close to the town (but includes a free shuttle).

i would love to do a day trip there but i am not driving and i don't think they do tours there.

We love St. Augustine!! It really is 'old' America. It is old.. settlers came to this town in the 1500's! Its the oldest settlement in the US!
The Florida Heritage Museum tells you about the Timucan Indians who lived there when the Spanish settlers arrived. These Indians were 7ft tall and the Spanish settlers were just over 5ft..!!
The Old Town Trolley Tour is definately worth a trip on!! Especially when you can see all the attractions and get on and off where you choose! Its informative and the kids love it.. mine used to call it the 'bumpity bump' train! Again certainly worth doing!
Also, a walk through the Spanish Quarter is a must.. it really gives the feel of how is town used to be 500 years ago. There is also a school house, which is supposed to be the oldest in the US! It is chained down to stop it blowing away in high winds!! The kids can get a certificate if they go inside!!
Anyway, do visit it - it's good to get a feel of a real US history!!
