Okay, we will be going next year and staying at SSR- When I make ressies- we will be getting a 2BR vacation home- Can anyone give me a few suggested requests on what area of SSR I should ask for? We have 5 kids - DS17, DS16, DD12, DS9, & DS7- so would like to have a water view, be close to the pool, & any kids play areas- but don't want a heavily traveled area for through traffic- OR will we notice? I mean can you hear people coming by your room at all hours or is that not noticible?(sp) TIA

Lots of good SSR threads lately. I'd start here:

You have somewhat conflicting requirements. For your kids ages, they'd be most interested in the main pool with the slide and Grandstand and Springs are closest to the main pool. Congress Park, with some DTD views just has a "plain quiet pool"
As far as foot traffic, you only hear hall noise if your doors and balcony are closed. Hallways are concrete and the gap below the doors lets in too much noise, imho. But the buildings are small enough that I've never noticed hall noise to be too much an issue.

I would suggest the Grandstand. Mostly because it is a fairly short walk to the main pool and HH and it also has its own quiet pool. That way if your kids want to go to the main pool you could relax at the quiet pool. Also the Grandstand is the 1st stop for the buses and the 1st drop off, for all the stops except DTD. The Grandstand is the newest addition to SSR.

I have only stayed in the Paddock (4501-4836) twice and I have never had a problem with the noise.

Hope you enjoy your stay!

Keep in mind that requests are just that...requests. Asking for one section or another doesn't mean that you will get it. As long as you plan to request an area knowing that you may end up somewhere else you'll be fine. Just don't get your heart set on the location you pick. We have found that our requests are met a bit less than 50% of the time but that's okay with us since we don't go in with set expectations...just possibilities.

Thanks for all of your replies-
No, I am very aware of the "request" nature but as this will be our very first time I truly have no idea what to request, expect or otherwise- My "vision" is what I expect , I hope my expectations are not "over the top" and I must say I hope the "magic" doesn't stop w/ a "bad" location- I imagine we will love all disney as long as we have our 2BR- LOL - I have seen many posts talking about certain names of areas w/in certain resorts and I figured I should have an idea of what "area" to ask for - I have also seen posts where certain people have not been happy w/ the location, the room, the view, etc- I would like to know or have an idea of what we may be in for- Most posts I have seen seem to all be about studios or 1 BR- and w/ our large family we will always be 2 BR , 3 BR or Grand Villa- I can't imagine us not being happy- But to be close to main pools, easy walking distance of certain areas we would be interested in or close to ferry, monorail or bus stops would be a plus! Again thx- I know I guess it seemed I was asking for very conflicting interests to be met- That is another great thing having so many of us- We can't all be happy all of the time but if just a few of our expectations are met- I think we will all be fine- You guys are great here! Considering we haven't met our guide yet, I am relying on everyone here new or old owners as my virtual tour guides- LOL

Rather than requesting a specific section, just note your requests like you did. That tells the room assigner what's important to you. Requesting a specific section will get you just that, but it may not satisfy your real desires.

Your kids are a little younger than ours, but our stay in the Grandstand (building 8100-8400) was by far their most favorite. It was right next to the bus stop and the Grandstand pool. It was just a short walk (3-4 minute leisure stroll) to the main area. We went to DTD quite often and our room was just as convienient as anywhere. Also, this was far less traffic around there versus the Springs, which is closest to the main area. Congress Park would be our second choice.
