Does anyone know if SSR will have water views, of the canal and the lagoon? :confused2

Many of the rooms face the lake with Downtown Disney & Pleasure Island on the other side. I was at DTD last Thursday and looked over, it looked great. I was thinking they will have problems similiar to Boardwalk over who gets the lake views.

Most of the rooms in bldgs 1-4 will have water views; a few are 'around the corner', and no one knows what they'll see. Bldgs 5-12 all appear to be facing water of somekind; I wonder if the they will become 'standard' veiw rooms w/lower point schedules similar to OKW.

I would think the entire first phase (4 buildings) of the development is considered Downtown Disney / Water View.

I've been told that the floor plans are such that most of a building is just one room deep. In other words, almost every room would look out toward the water.

That said, based upon some of the development photos that have been posted, it appears that there are also rooms on the ends of each building. Given the manner in which the buildings are positioned, there almost have to be some areas that would not point directly or indirectly toward Downtown Disney. Most notably, Buildings 2 and 3 look like they may have a handful of rooms that point in the opposite direction of the water. If that's the case, these rooms may represent the SSR equivalent of the VWL dumpster view. :(

DVC has already say that they would never have 2 schedules (like BWV) again - it was a mistake (in their opinion) and so no (in my opinion) standard views at SSR.

When I booked our August stay, I was given choice of "close to pool" or DD view.

I'm glad they made the buildings the way that tjkraz mentioned. I guess they anticipated many people desiring that DTD view.

Well that's good to know. Wonder if DVC will make that VWL "Dumpster View" a formal room category next. ;)

It's funny that you posted this. I was just looking at the sketches on the DVC site and a lightbulb finally went off. What we see in those drawings is equivalent to what you see when you look at an OKW building! The "front" is like the hallway in a hotel building -- your actual view and your balcony are out the back! I'm not sure if it's been determined for sure but it looks to me like they do have semi-enclosed walkways (like OKW) not interior hallways. This would also jive with the one-unit statement.

It'll be so great to actually hear from folks who are staying there -- opening sure is coming up quickly!

SSR will have outside entrances similar to Old Key West. Your description is accurate as to view and balconies.

Does anyone know if the parking will be similar to OKW as well, in that you can drive right up to your unit?

Yes. The units are larger, thus the parking lots are larger and there will probably be a slightly longer walk. But each building will have its own parking lot right beside.

Thanks! This may be a dumb question, but I have never been to OKW and don't know how it is when the doors are outside--do they have elevators or is it stairs only? Me and DH are taking his parents in December and we're still deciding where to stay. His mom has hip problems and has trouble with stairs (she uses a cane but we will get her a fun scooter for the parks) and I want to make sure there are elevators for her if we decide on SSR or OKW.

The newest buildings at OKW do have elevators. I'm assuming that all SSR buildings will have at least one elevator, but someone will correct me if they know differently.

When you make your reservation, just make sure you specify the medical need and it will get priority when rooms are assigned. If you would rather just have first floor, specify 'first floor.'

Not sure about elevators either, but I would assume they will have elevators due to the Americans with Disabilities Act. All new construction since the act was made into law has to comply, even most remodeling.

With parking area near each building will those of us without cars have a long walk to get to the main building with the food? Would people in the farest building from the checkin building use the car to go to the pool? Will there be a paved walking path? I will stop there on May 17 to check it out but I'm not staying there until Sept. Its hard to judge distance on the maps we have seen.

How many other DVC do not rent a car while your at WDW?
Is SSR a resort where you would want a car?
Thanks for any info.

I have a studio booked for 4 nights in August and was given no view choice. I think I'll just take what I get for the first time and play it by ear.

us too, we didn't have and option on a view when i booked for 7 nights in october.. i guess you take what they give you!!!
