This is my second time to type this.........first one is lost in cyberspace I guess.

Anyway.....we have been here at SSR since Saturday in a 1 br.....1st visit as DVC members. This afternoon we went to Epcot and I put a load of clothes in the washer before we left. When we came back 5 hourse later the washer was still washing....full of water....just washing away. I turned it off and turned it to rinse and it started draining and rinsing. We decided to go over to AP for a quick bite and when we returned water was all over the floor, in the bathroom and foyer area and there was a strong burning smell. I immediately called the front desk and they said they would send someone over. An hour later maintenance came and looked at the machine and said it needs to be replaced in the morning. He gave me lots of towels and put some over the water on the carpet and said that he couldn't dry it tonight because it was too late and it would be too noisy ( it was 11:00pm by this time). Then housekeeping came by and left even more towels. Also, my clothes are all ruined.....I guess from the 5 hours of washing they are all stretched and faided and have this blue fuzz all over them.....I loaded them all up and took them over to guest laundry but it didn't help much. The maintenance guy said he would put it in on the report that the clothes are damaged. Now, we are walking on wet towels and I guess I will go and talk to the manager in the morning. I really don't want to have to move all my stuff but I also don't want to be walking on wet carpet. we only have one more night after tonight.

I'm so sorry! We seem to get noisy dryers but nothing like that- I have had to call maintenance to repair a dryer at least twice because it screeched so bad.

Definitely talk to a manager. While using the washers may be somewhat "at your own risk" I would bet they'll do something to compensate you for the ruined clothing- you're going to be a bit short on clothes!

May I ask what room you are in? We had the same problem with our washer at SSR on Oct. 10. I manually moved the timer to get our clothes out of the washer. I then reported it to maintenance (we were moving over to BWV). I would be interested to know if it wasn't fixed and it would add to your claim of SSR liability if this issue was not taken care of when reported. I THINK we were in 3541 in Springs section.

OMG............that is the same room.........3541 Springs...........I can't believe that.....well it looks like this room will be getting a new unit today.

I had a similar problem at BCV last week although the washer didn't overflow. Maintenance came and said they would have to use a wet vac to drain it and then fix it as something was stuck in it. It was rather late so I asked if they could do it in the am. It was fixed while we were out of the room.

However, I now wonder if it was the cap to my HE detergent that caused the problem? It never turned up. So I think I'll either go with a standard size detergent cup from now on or just use the cup and rinse it out.

BTW, I think it might not be the best idea to turn it to rinse while there's water in it....wouldn't that just add more water?

Anyway, sorry for your problems. Glad you have one more day to get your laundry done.

Disney absolutely should be liable for your damaged clothes, since they did NOT fix this machine when I reported it on Oct. 10. It makes me very angry that they did not follow through and you now have a problem that should not have happened. Please contact me by e-mail if you need me to verify that I did report this on Oct. 10.

I agree! I bet they won't see that one coming!:goodvibes

It is definitely a small world!:wizard:

Plus they had time to fix it, since the room was vacated on Friday and the OP got it on Saturday.:teacher:

Or not assign that villa until the problem was corrected.

Small world is just what I was thinking as well.:surfweb:

I just spoke with William the manager and he was very snoody.....he basically said I'm so sorry that that happened and that was it. I told him that I had spoken with someone that had checked out of this room on Oct. 10 and that they had the same problem and obviously it was not corrected. He said well I'm sure if it was reported then it was addressed. I then asked him what he was going to do about my clothes.....he said anything that was bought from disney could be replaced.....he said to go and buy another one and charge it to the room and he would take care of it. I said, what about the rest of my things and he said that he would reimburse me for it tomorrow when we check out. I then told him that a day and a half of our vacation had been spent soaking up water and lugging wet clothes over to guest laundry and that we are still walking around in water............he said that he would speak to housekeeping and get back to me.

He said well I'm sure if it was reported then it was addressed.

Not. This washer was doing EXACTLY the same thing and I reported EXACTLY this. I was just lucky that we were in the room and so I noticed the problem so I was able to advance each cycle manually--and that is EXACTLY what I told maintenance when I called.

could you give me your email address so i can email you and get your name just in case i need it?

Sorry to hear of your troubles. We had a problem with our washing machine at home. We started a load and then went out assuming the machine knew what it was doing. Apparently the tube that connects to a pressure sensor that tells the machine when to shut off the water broke and the water just kept coming. We got home and there was a half inch of water everywhere.

The one thing we learned is that we never trust machines to do what they are supposed to do. We never leave the house or the DVC room when we have laundry going any more.

If we are at DVC we try to schedule laundry times first thing in the morning or rest periods that we return to the room in mid-day. Sometimes if the parks close early we will do it in the evening.

I hope you have good luck with your reimbursement request. I don't know what they can really do for you though.

this will be my last time to leave laundry going at a DVC resort and leave the room.........obviously from all the previous posts DVC has trouble with these machines often.

Playing devil's advocate, it is entirely possible that the machine was serviced over the last 3 weeks and then broke again.

Regardless it sounds like they have agreed to make reparations and that's about the best you can hope for. I wouldn't expect them to try to compensate for your time.

Your post didn't say whether you spoke to someone in person or at the front desk. For future reference, or if additional follow-up is required, I'd suggest going to the front desk for things like this. A personal appeal is going to go a lot further than trying to handle it over the phone.

Disney uses a call center to handle internal issue. Assuming you did this by phone, the person you spoke with doesn't even work on Walt Disney World grounds. You'll have a tough time tracking him down if they don't follow-thru at this point.

Meh. I'm not sure that three incidents (two in the same room) are reason to change your habits. We all get bitten by that streak of bad luck from time to time.

Put it behind you and go enjoy your vacation!

I did go to the front desk.....my MIL talked to William the first time on the phone and then I went to the front desk and talked to him. It does seem that everything is being handled so we move on.

We're going to MNSSHP tonight so we will have lots of fun!!! We are bundling up now because it is supposed to be 43 degrees tonight in Orlando.....YIKES!!! I think I'll go to the party dressed as the lady who wore everything she owned.

thanks for all the replies everyone!!!

This is my rule too. My boyfriend laughs at me. I'm tempted to show him this thread.

I also:

don't turn on the dishwasher and leave the house. (I will turn it on and go to bed.)

don't go outside if I have something cooking on the stove.

don't leave the toaster plugged in (have heard of situations where they mysteriously turn on and start fires)

don't leave the house if the toilet is still filling (my secretary years ago used her upstairs restroom and left for two days, came back to find the toilet had been overflowing for two days and she had $40,000 in water damage in her condo).

One other thing to consider, if there is damage to the DVC unit (i.e., carpeting has to be replaced, for example) then under the circumstances that cost from my perspective should not be charged to DVC owners but should be payable by Disney because of its employees' negligence in not getting the problem corrected.

well we just got back from MNSSHP and there was a message from William the manager on our phone. He said that he would credit my room charge $100 for the damaged clothes and that he was going to also credit one nights points back to my dvc account and that they would go into my current use year.

anyone know if these points would be bankable?

I am pleased with the way this turned out.
