SSR vs. VAKL

I have been a little stressed over adding points now at SSR for 86 per point OR waiting for VAKL. I am, by nature, cheap! I don't really care to stay at SSR, just not my cup of tea but the AKL, Wow! I love that place. And, for the most part, I am a planner.

I did a little math: (dangerous thing, I know) At 86 dollars per point over 47 more years, SSR points are (in today's dollars) 1.86 approx. per point used. For the VAKL, over the next 50 years (rumored date of expiration), if purchased for 94 per point (10 dollars off the 104 rumored price increase for an expected promotion), the cost per point used is 1.88 approx. So, forgetting about the surefire increased maintenance costs, I have been stressing about 6 cents per point?:sad1: :sad2: :headache:  ;)

I need to wait for the VAKL.

And don't forget that AKV will have a later expiration date if the rumors are true.

You sound like a good candidate for AKV. Keep in mind the annual dues, which are a much larger part of the total cost of DVC ownership, might be significantly higher at AKV than SSR because of the animals, etc.

Personally, I'd advise against buying at a resort that isn't someone's cup of tea. :)

Yes, buying a resort that isn't your cup of tea is not the best idea. But my bargain hunting, clearance rack scouring brain cannot get the low buy-in price and low MT's that SSR offers out. Sadly, after a five night stay, I really can't see wanting to go back unless I had too. There is nothing at all wrong with the resort, I just think that the BWV, BCV and VWL are "DVC". I don't get that feeling from SSR or OKW. I don't know why. But the AKL knocked my socks off.

I think you could buy at SSR and get other DVC resorts pretty often at the 7 month window, especially if you're willing to waitlist.

Me? I am not a big risk taker when it comes to my vacations. Owning at a resort that I really enjoy staying at gives me the best odds of getting exactly what I want the most often. And I haven't had any luck in my two tries on the waitlist. So for me, it's worth the extra buy-in cost or MF to give me peace of mind for decades to come.

Hard to put a price on that!
