SSR vs other Villas

We are planning a trip in March 08 and booked in the SSR villas. Is this a kid oriented place? We have a DD7 and DD3.

None of the DVC resorts are overly Disney themed like you find at All Stars or Pop Century. Theming is very subtle. There are kids activities scheduled at the Community Halls at OKW, BWV and SSR. VWL and BCV do not have Community Halls.

We spent 9 days at SSR in May.

There are a ton of kids activities!
When you check-in, you'll get a folder...check it your first day.
There will be a sheet listing the scheduled activities for the week.
They have stuff going on every day, for most of the afternoon & into the evenings. Some things:

Bingo
Disney Trivia
Critter Catch
Water-balloon toss
many kinds of typical "pool games"
Hula-hoop contests
pin trading

Some games have great prizes..one day they were awarding those Disney DVD board games.

it is quite nice.

It has a zero entry pool in the main pool area. also a kiddie slide. make sure you know the difference between it and the adult (teens) slide.

Are there activities at SSR for teens also? We are going to spend spring break there (our first visit to SSR) and we are only planning to go to the parks 1 day (because we are going back in the summer for a week with extended family), so we are hoping our 14 year old twins will have fun hanging out at the resort. I wanted to go to VB (I thought there would be more for them to do there), but both of them said they would rather hang out at SSR.

So what is there for teens to do while hanging out at the resort?

They could go to the spa and use the work out equipment. Or have a spa treatment. They could walk over to DTD and shop around. Head over to Disney Quest (need a ticket) and play all day. Go to the AMC 24 at DTD and catch a couple of movies. Swim. Play golf (if they are good enough to do so). Take the boat over to OKW or PO and ride bikes there (not sure if you can rent bikes at SSR).

I didn't think about them being able to go to the spa. I guess because on the cruise teens can't do that. They would probably get a kick out of that.

I know at VB they have teen activities planned, and that is why I thought they would enjoy that, but they didn't want to go there (we have been there twice, so they know what it is like). They said they wanted to try SSR. It looks like a beautiful resort. I can't wait to try it also. Then we will have stayed at all of the DVC resorts (except for the new ones at AKL, but we have stayed in AKL).

You can EASILY walk to DTD from SSR -- especially the Congress Park section. Mind you, it is a little walk to the main pool and food from here, but it is a very nice, easy walk.

We found it incredibly kid friendly as well -- all Disney resorts are. I think the SSR pool is great for kids -- there is a slide for big kids and also for little kids, a splashground w/Donald Duck, a water fall, zero depth entry w/fun fountains, and great vantage points from all over to watch kids in the pool. Also, the playground was wonderful!

In the eating area, there are little easels for drawing at every table and the market has excellent food and service -- the food is a little limited, so either order snacks online to be delivered or take advantage of the ddp or eating at DTD.

That is part of the reason we are staying there for spring break (that and we haven't stayed there before and my girls want to try it). It looks like a nice walk over there and back, but if you don't like to walk, there is a boat that take you over and back.

Just wanted to add that from Congress park the walk to DTD is about 5 minutes and about 6 min tothe main pool. Some days by the pool they have a bunch of fun contests like hoola hoop and diving games for little prizes. Also, the community hall is right off the pool complex. You can also borrow life vests for the length of your stay for any almost swimmers.

yes they do have some activities - some things to made.

they also a room with computer w/games

that I think any teen would be happy to stay there.

oh forgot there are teen boys here too - so that is generally a selling point.

In Jan'07 we stayed at SSR. I so wanted to stay again with my teens b/c of the Community Hall set up. They have ping pong in there. three computer terminals with Nintendos and tons of games to borrow. Also lots of movies to just hang out on couches and chairs and watch. A few of the arts and crafts looked nice enough for a teen to enjoy (probably girls tho). Walking to DTD gives them another whole place to explore of course. I do think there is an age requirement to use the gym tho. Spa is available and actually has a few kiddie packages (again, not sure of ages) .Arcade looked awesome too.

Resort hopping and boat riding, renting sea racers, and so much more. . .

They will love it!

FYI, we transferred up from Vero Beach for that stay and I am so so very glad we did!

What is a zero entry pool?

like walking into the ocean, gradual incline from zero inches (depth) to 10 inches or so over several feet and eventually into regular depth shallow end. . .very very nice for little ones.

you can google up pics of any of Disney's zero entry pools by putting in resort name and pool ane you will be able to see what it is fairly clearly.

POLY, SSR, AKL or WL (forget which) all have zero depth entry. SAB does too kinda but they actually add sand to the mix!
