SSR Theme Pool

I don't think I'd agree with the thought that Inn guests are more likely to be out and about. I stayed at AKL one year and its pool definitely had quite a few people in it. CRO users may be at the pool a shorter span of time but I think they still go. I've always gone to the pool...that is one of the magical parts about vacationing in Florida or of any vacation for that matter.

Now I'm going to have to look up the numbers for other Disney Resorts because it seems to me that the moderate resorts are pretty large and I just can't see SSR being the largest resort on property...and even if it were I would tend to think the average occupancy per room would be lower with DVC.

Oh, it's far from the largest. In fact, it's one of the smallest resorts at WDW. 18 buildings would be 828 rooms. Pop Century has 3500 rooms. Most of the others are well over 1000.

The problem is trying to find any data related to the pool sizes at individual resorts.

I don't agree that many Inn guests don't visit the theme pool as much. Many of my friends with children (the greatest users of theme pools IMO) like to keep their children sane by making pool days/non-park days every other day.

Just to reiterate, SSR may be the largest DVC, but not the largest resort. HRS is just as big as the theme pools at the other larger resorts.

As far as SSR dues paying for another theme pool or lazy river, I'm not up for that. If you're worried about the pool looking too full and the resort not selling due to that, I don't think that will fly. If the pools are over-crowded, the resort has likely already sold out. No need for DVC to entice more people.

Anyone know if DVC could just add a theme pool and increase our dues accordingly? It seems like that's what they did with the slide for OKW.

Yes, that's pretty much what they did at OKW.

As long as DVD foots the bill for the amenity, they don't need member approval. DVD paid for the slide construction, but members are now paying for upkeep and lifeguards.

The Uzima Springs pool is the largest on Disney property, over 11,000 square feet. There is no quiet pool at AKL.

1 Main pool, 1 quiet pool.

SSR
The recently announced Phase III will add another 176 unites, bringing the total number of units to 828
High Rock Spring Pool & 5 "Quiet" leisure pools are also available at the resort near the clusters of resort room buildings.

The Yacht Club (YC) is a five-story, 630 room resort. The Beach Club (BC) is a 583 room resort. The BCV 205 unit resort. Total 1418
SAB plus two quiet pools.


I would imagine some people won't chose to walk 10-15 minutes to get to the main pool when there are 5 quiet pools available, with one of those very close to them.

SSR's main pool (High Rock Spring) is listed at 6400 sq ft in the DVC sales literature.

SSR has 68% of the number of rooms at AKL (828/1293)

SSR's pool is 55% of the size of AKL (6400/11000), but SSR has the added benefit of four more stand-alone Quiet Pools.

Although I usually like to see forward-thinking, proactive folks, I do wonder why some people are so worried about the pool at SSR, particularly in light of the facts presented here. A few comments:

1. WDW pools can often be "too crowded for swimming". On a hot day - no rarity in Florida - resort pools can be darned busy.

2. I'd see no value from a lazy river, even though they're my favorite attraction at TL and BB - just seems like overkill.

3. I suspect that DVCers use their pools less than other guests; using a pool while on vacation is a treat to many - perhaps less so to DVCers.

4. Just speculating, but I wonder if DVD is designing with the aging population of DVC owners in mind; I can't imagine that DVC pools will be as busy in 30 years as they are now - except, perhaps, the zero-entry area .

I personally would not want to pay the increased dues for an additional theme pool. We still like to visit the waterparks even when staying at BCV so I would much rather use the funds for that.
OKW added a slide not an entire pool!
After staying at the other on site DVC resorts, I still don't understand why the SSR pool is considered so small, when none of the others are any bigger and serve more units combined.

I can definately say one thing about the SSR pool--nowhere near enough tables with an umbrella for shade.
We went there twice last trip--both times not very crowded, but we managed to grab the very last shade table both times. On a crowded day, we would have been out of luck---.
