SSR Spa Question

Just wondering if anyone has been to the SSR spa. I have booked a 3 hour pkg. for DD (18) and I. It goes without saying that it was expensive but I just want to know if this place is fabulous or not- Will we get what we paid for?- Believe me I am of the mindset (we both are) that if someone is pampering me I won't be complaining-But if someone told me "I went there and it was okay-but not great" I might rethink my decision and spend the $$$ om something else. :sunny:

My mom and I adored every minute of it!!! My sisters and I gave my mom a massage and facial for her birthday -- I went along and worked out in the gym, followed by a massage. The place is beautiful! The staff is fantastic! The layout is a little weird -- you go upstairs to go downstairs -- but that was the ONLY complaint I could come up, and it would only be a problem for someone with mobility issues (though they have an elevator, too).

I wish I'd showed up a little earlier. They have a hottub and a steam room in the locker room that looked wonderful, but I didn't have time. They have blowdryers, combs, towels, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, hairspray and aerosol deodorant available, for after your services. I know some people complained that the "waiting room" -- where you go to wait for your staff member -- is unisex and they didn't like sitting in a robe there while they waited. We never saw a man the whole time we were there, but it didn't bother us one bit!

Be happy with your decision -- I'm sure you'll love SSR spa!

You'll have a great time. DD, age 20, and I did that in March on her spring break. I had a massage and she had a facial but we spent some time in the hot tub and steam room too. It was a great mother/daughter time. Have fun!

I enjoyed my pedicure at the Spa in early April. It was really nice to feel so pampered! I will certainly be doing it again in Nov. with my daughter and daughter in law. Have fun!

:flower: Thanks to all of you for your response- I thought it would be great but sometimes you need a little reassurance!! Thanks again.

I had a pedicure there, it was so beautifully done that several people commented on it during our trip! It is a wonderful place.

I am pretty sure there was a womens only waiting room? Did I imagine that?

Thanks for posting this! I wasn't able to go to the spa this trip, didn't want to leave dad to his own devices.
But the next trip, best friend and I are absolutely making spa ressies. Yes, it will expensive, but worth it!

I'm glad you posted this! I want to surprise DH with a massage as we are driving straight through for the first time. Who do you call to make ressies? I probably need to get on that...

I went right to www.relaxedyet.com and looked at the online brochure and then had to phone to make the actual reservation- You can also do massages at deluxe resorts beauty salon facilities but only SSR & GF have actual spas.

Can you get gift certificates for it? Or use Disney Dollars?
I'd like to ask for something along those lines for my birthday.

Yup, I read in the brouchure I got at check-in that gift certificates are available.

Athenna,

Some one posted a few months ago that there were not able to use Disney Visa Rewards points there. Not sure if this affects you, but it will for me on my upcoming trip. I think the way around it is to charge the services to your room, then you can use the rewards towards your room bill. At least I hope that works. That's what I'm planning to do.

Can anyone recommend any specific massage or hydro therapy massage or facial? I want to have a pedicure and another treatment but am having trouble deciding what from the online brochure.

I definitely don't want to be wrapped up in something and left to stand for 45 minutes (had this happen before). I wasn't sure what the hydro therapy was - is this done in a pool - or do you soak in a pool and then get out for a short massage?

Any specifics about different treatments would be appreciated. We leave in 23 days.

Thanks,
Lissa

I knew you couldn't use the reward dollars, but gift certificates are available.

Hydro therapy is done in special tubs that are about 2X the size of a regular bath tub jacuzzi-They have lots of jets and are really wonderful every spa I have ever been to they in are individual rooms with candles and a very soothing atmosphere- We are going for the "relaxed yet" package- which includes a signature massage, aromatherapy facial and manicure (me) or pedicure (DD) :)

Thanks, Athenna.
Even my DH wants a massage there! Maybe we'll have to get ourselves some g.c.'s for our anniversary :cool1:

Hi there.... I can fill you in on some of the specifics of our body treatments, as I am a Massage Therapist at SSR Spa :flower:

Our body wraps are all about 50 minutes and consist of body brushing, lymph drainage style massage, application of masque, being wrapped (usually about 15-20 minutes lying supine (face up) ) showering off the masque, and application of body oil. Very wonderful relaxing treatments :teeth:

Our hydrotherapy treatments are great. I absolutely melt when I have this treatment. As a previous poster said, you are in a very large tub with many jets. Depending on the hydrotherapy treatment you choose, essential oils, bath salts, and or bubbles are added. There is an underwater massage that uses a 'water wand' to target specific muscles. You are wearing a swimsuit for this treatment, and please remember that this is not advised for anyone with uncontrolled high blood pressure, heart conditions, pregnancy, etc...

Have a wonderful time!

Wow Aimee, thanks for the information. That will help in my decision. Maybe I'll see you there in just a few weeks.

Sorry, Aimee, that we didn't have you, but we both loved our massages (Swedish and Magical Forest something...massage and reflexology). We've been to both the Grand Floridian and now SSR. Both locations are great, but I have to say neither of us was crazy about the lounge area being unisex. To top it off, not once, but twice a DVC salesperson with potential buyers "toured" the lounge. Kind of breaks the "mood". Services and staff were wonderful!

I had a Mystical Forest Therapies massage (don't know the fragrance of the oil, but it did remind me of evergreens and I loved it) in December on a cloudy, damp day. It was wonderful. The first part was a Swedish massage on my back, and then I turned over and had accupressure-type massage that focused on hands and feet and ?head. I felt wonderful afterwards, but next time I'll have the Swedish massage for the entire time + the same oil used for the Mystical Forest.

The actual massage table was exceptionally comfortable, and the room was very nice, with relaxing music. I took advantage of the sauna and whirlpool after the massage ..... just couldn't make myself go back out in the damp, cool weather. Staff were great and the massage therapist was excellent.

I'm plus size and was given a very large, comfortable robe. Thank goodness, because I didn't know the lounge area was unisex!

It was a very serene, relaxing experience and I'll do it again.

PS. Forgot to mention that several of the treatments have a discount for DVC members (Mystical Forest and Swedish when I was there). I think it was 20% off, but just can't remember.
