Have you always had to put your own mattress pad and sheets on the pull out couch at SSR? In all of our stays since 2002, not once have we had to make up the sofa bed. Now they store the sheets in the closet and leave a card telling you to make it yourself or call housekeeping. Is this something new?

Yes, I've had to make a pull out before.... And kinda prefer it after opening an obviously used, dirty pull out bed.
(Which was quickly changed and made by mousekeeping when I called).

Yes we have also had to make the sofa bed upon arriving. The couches seem very compact so we assumed this to be the reason they no longer make up this bed. It was a bit of a challenge to fold it back up during the day but we like a tidy room. On the upside, you know the bed is nice and clean!

Yuck, that would have been worse I guess, but I will not make up the sofa bed. Nope, not my job. I'm on vacation.
To say I'm disappointed with Disney on this issue is an understatement.

Not every Guest uses the sofa bed so it makes perfect sense to me that they have the clean linens in the closet in case you need them. It would create a whole lot of extra work if they made and re-made that sofa bed every time a Guest checked in and out; especially if it wasn't used. I'm quite certain that they'd have no problem making the bed up for you if you don't want to do it - they're awesome like that!

I have always made it up.

If I walked in and found the sofabed made, I would assume it was put away dirty by the last guests and wasn't changed by housekeeping.

I would then be washing sheets before bedtime.

My feeling is if they don't want to make up the sofa bed as an actual bed (LIKE THEY SHOULD), then give a choice if we want 2 beds. (I personally do.)
I have used several of the sofa beds. I'm a very restless sleeper and move over to it if I feel I'm disturbing DH. Out of 4 DVC's, it has always been made. (never stayed at SSR) However, there seems to be 2 different kinds and the one that didn't have the pillows magically hidden at the bottom (love that!) had the pillows separate. Of course, I always request extra blankets.

So if you are staying in a studio, book OKW. It has two queen beds. And if you are stuck on the living room sleeper sofa, book a two bedroom and get dedicated so you get two queen beds (in most of the DVC resorts).

Don't like outside corridors at OKW, though a lovely resort. Not enough points for 2 bedroom.

Will bear with the hide-a-bed hoping not all resorts will be changing the unmade policy. Was made up at BCV, BWV (both studio & 1 bedroom), BLT (both studio & 1 bedroom) in the past month and VWL in the past 6 months.

I can tell if the sheets haven't been changed, and if not, I'll be calling Housekeeping pronto. If you would rather make up your own sofa bed including mattress pad, more power to ya. I'm a little taken aback that so many want to make it themselves. :confused3 Each to their own.

I keep my end of the Disney bargain by paying my dues on time. I expect Disney to keep their end of the bargain. Having mouse-keeping make the beds up is part of that.

Checked into BCV this morning, and yes, the sofa beds are made up already. :earsgirl:

SSR is the lost DVC, I own there, and they just don't care about that resort. they treat it like the value resort of the DVC resorts. The last two times we stayed there the room was filthy and we only had 2 lightbulbs working in the room. I have never had to make up the sofabed but we did not use it last time at SSR. e are staying at BLT in Jan and March and will check there. It makes me very sad that the resort that I paid a lot of hard earned money for is maintained in such a manner and is treated so offhand. I do not mind cleaning my room during the week but I expect it to be in good to great condition and ready for guest when I enter. They take until 4 or later to get you in your room and they know exactly how many are in the room so they should be able to make up the sofabed if you are going to need it for the guest count in the room. IMHO it is just pure laziness on the part of Disney, Mousekeeping and the resort.

This was our first stay at SSR. We really enjoyed the one night (except for the sofa bed part). Loved the proximity to Downtown Disney. It has a wonderful laid back feeling. Loved all the CM's that we dealt with and we will probably spend a few nights here in the future.

It's very large though and we feel we'd need a car to stay here in the future. We were in Congress Park which is way too far to walk for filling up mugs or just to get to the store for necessities. DH was miffed when he realized there is only one ice machine per building and it was on the first floor, we were on the 4th. Lol, thought it was funny he was checking each floor for the ice and was gone forever!

I guess we're just used to the BCV. Sofa bed is made up and there is an ice machine on each floor. :goodvibes

???? So they state on the card that you can call housekeeping to make it up. That seems to satisfy a requirement of not making it yourself so I'm confused about feeling like DVC would not take care of it? You didn't share where the card was informing of this so I can see it being a PITB if you were ready to climb into bed and didn't see the card until you opened up the sofa but they still state that housekeeping will take care of it. I'm not certain if it makes complete sense but that vs opening to a sofa that was slept in and then folded up that housekeeping did not see? Blech. I think I'd rather that they can easily see that the sheets are not in the closet and know that the sofa was used, strip it down and replace the sheets in the closet and would hope the card was visible so that one would know earlier in the day rather than at bedtime.

I find it impossible that Housekeeping would not know whether the sleeper sofa was slept in or not. If I've used it (often), the morning I check out, I always leave it fully opened having obviously slept in. Housekeeping would have to be blind not to know it needed to be made up for the new guest.

Sure, if you assume that every guest does the same things you do and always leaves it open when they check out. I would not make that assumption.

I don't think it would be too much of a stretch to think this was done because guests were finding dirty sheets on the sleepers because guests closed them after getting up in the morning. Or maybe even didn't sleep on it the whole time - just a night or two. So if you instead have an indicator for housekeeping if sheets are in the closet or not it's a much easier visual than having housekeeping open the sofa - unless you're going to have them change the sheets every time the room is changed over. And I don't know if that would be completely crazy to have done, but personally do not think it's necessary.

If guests are finding dirty sheets then Disney is not doing their job correctly and those housekeepers need to be retrained or let go.

It's Housekeeping's JOB to check the sleeper sofa. A large part of our DUES goes to housekeeping. I think it's ludicrous to make up my own bed when I check into ANY hotel. I'm having a hard time figuring out why so many have no problem with this. Dirty sheets is not a good enough reason, remember it's their job to check and replace the sheets. It has to be because it's Disney, there can really be no other reason.

I'm not trying to start a huge disagreement, I really just don't understand. If you checked into the Four Seasons do you have to make up your pull out? How about the Gaylord Palms down the road? The Hyatt? Courtyard by Marriott? Hampton Inn? My money's on no.

I think it is good that they don't leave them set up. I am pretty sure that the sofa bed in my DCL cabin the time I travelled with my mum (so we wanted 2 separate beds) had been made up and not used. We are both allergic to dust so there was a lot of coughing trying to sleep in it until we asked them to change the sheets early. Although I rarely use the bedding from hotel cupboards either as the blankets are also usually dusty as they sit there for so long. I think in a studio I would call housekeeping and try to be there to be sure it was all fresh bedding.

They usually store the clean blankets/sheets in a plastic, zippered bag.
