SSR questions

We are new to DVC - will be making our first trip to SSR this month. We know nothing about the resort other than what is in the book they sent us - so what are the restaurants like - I know I can eat at DDD but I what about breakfast - quick!

We have a 2BR unit for the week - are they in all buildings - is there one to request - or are they in a general area - we were guaranteed a real 2 BR not a combo unit.

We ate at Artist Palette a couple of mornings and everything is made fresh. They had croissant sandwiches, breakfast platters and waffles. The resort is very nice with the main pool is closest to the Springs and we requested a room there. The Springs location was very convenient to Artist Palette, the main pool and Community Hall. SSR is a convenient walk to DTD and we did it several times. We even used DTD buses when traveling to other resorts. Have a great vacation.

Downtown Disney (DTD) options include Wolfgang Puck's Express & Earl of Sandwich (both in the Marketplace, an easy walk from SSR). Earl opens at 8:30, and Puck's at 9:00 each day.

It sounds like you've got a "dedicated" 2br - they're all "real" 2br villas. Dedicated just means there's only 1 door, not 2.

I really think you will enjoy SSR. We just had our first trip home there, and I was really happy. We hadn't seen SSR except when we did the DVC tour, so I was a little nervous as well. We're used to staying at the Poly and Wilderness Lodge mostly. At the time, I would have preferred to purchase at BCV, but couldn't resist the incentives for purchasing SSR.

And I am actually very happy we purchased there - there's lots to do, the resort is very nice (a lot of which is because it's still new), the food options were good in my opinion, and we didn't miss the whole "walking into the lobby / hotel" vibe. The theming and landscaping are beautiful. If you have time, make sure to check out Community Hall with your kids - they have activities there all day long.

There's different areas at SSR - we stayed in the Springs section because I wanted to be close to the main pool and dining. Others like Congress Park because it's closer to Downtown Disney. Then there's also the Grandstand and Paddock areas, but I didn't investigate those.

Make sure you get the coronary inducing egg/cheese/bacon croissant at Artists' Palette (yummy!)- it is vacation, after all! I also had a very good artichoke/cheese flatbread for dinner one evening.

My understanding with a dedicated 2 BR is that it has 2 queens as opposed to 1 queen with a sofa bed - that matters for this trip. Multiple doors would not matter to us - all the kids are grown.

Thanks for the info - I am excited to finally get there - our youngest child will be 20 this week and so this is really our vacation retirement plan. We should have done it with young kids, but that never happened - so better late than never.

Is Artist Palatte a counter service or sit down table service restaurant.

Our last trip was our first to SSR. We really loved the resort. We stayed in the Springs which was a quick hop over to the pool and Artist's Point. We were sorry that we didn't eat at the Turf Club more than once on the trip. Although the menu was limited, the dinner we were served was among the best we had the entire trip.

You will definately enjoy your trip.

You will love it ! It is a great resort, but then I like them all....

Don't forget to check out the spa. It is first class and a great way to wind down after a long day or wind up in the morning if you like to work out.

Just returned from our 1st trip to SSR. Went to the Palette for dinner. It was OK - I really didn't like the menu selections. Breakfast smelled awesome but we didn't try it. The Turf Club was our second favorite dining experience (behind Le Ceilier). What a wonderful surprise that was!

We recently stayed in a 1BR in the Springs section, then moved to a 2BR in the Grandstand when my husband joined us. Both sections are great! The Springs is centrally located and convenient to everything, the Grandstand has that great secondary pool (the one with the red racehorse theme), feels peaceful because it's surrounded by the green golf course, and is actually a very close walk to the main buildings as well. You can't go wrong with either locale.

We have also stayed in Congress Park, which as a previous poster pointed out, is closest to Downtown Disney. I'm not a huge fan of Downtown Disney, so this was my least favorite location, since it feels so far away from everything else.

SSR is a wonderful resort, have a great time!

I'm surprised to hear how much some folks enjoyed the Turf Club. We stayed at SSR last year and thought the Turf Club was below average and would never go out of our way to eat there.
