The room layout and square footage is basically the same as BWV. I think the furnishings are a bit more luxurious at SSR, but you can probably make that judgement for yourself since you have seen the models.
Since you are getting a 2B, you'll probably want to consider whether you would prefer a dedicated 2B or a lockoff. A dedicated 2B has two queen sized beds in the second bedroom (with a King in the main suite.) You will also get quite a bit more closet space in the second bedroom of a 2B--the entire area that normally houses the kitchentte is one large closet.
A lockoff is basically a 1B + Studio with the connecting door open. With the lockoff you get one queen and a sleeper sofa in the second bedroom.
The dedicated or lockoff is specified at the time of the reservation for inventory purposes, so make sure you specifically request if it matters to you. I know some folks prefer the lockoff--especially for smaller parties--since it doesn't have the second queen bed taking up half of a bedroom.
With regard to location, there will basically be two "neighborhoods" open when you visit. The models you saw were in the Congress Park section of the resort. The four buildings in CP line the waterway and face Downtown Disney. A Quiet Pool sits right between the four buildings, along with a children's playground, community grill, gazebo, and so forth. These buildings are also the closest to the walking path to Downtown Disney. We timed our recent walk from DD back to SSR. From DD to the nearest SSR building it actually took us less than 5 minutes at a leisurely pace.
From Congress Park, you're about a 5-7 minute walk from the main pool, Carriage House, Spa, etc. If you don't want to walk, you can take any theme park bus from Congress Park to the pool area. Every bus that enters SSR stops right outside of the pool complex both as it ENTERS and EXITS the resort. The CP bus stop is 60 seconds from any guest room in that neighborhood. So, you simply walk to the bus stop and hop on the first bus that arrives. A few seconds later you'll be able to get off right across the street from the pool. We attended the
DVC Member Meeting at SSR a couple weeks ago, and DVC CMs were encouraging folks to use the busses to their fullest to get around the resort.
The other neighborhood that should be open by June are three buildings in The Springs. These buildings are literally right across the street from the main pool--probably 2-3 minutes walk from any given room.
That should give you enough info to decide where you would prefer to be. Remember DVC is not currently guaranteeing any views or locations at SSR, but my guess is that you would have a pretty high probability of getting your request if you are specific.
For what it's worth, we really liked the Downtown Disney view (which included the brief midnight fireworks display at PI) in Congress Park. Even with a 3.5 and 1.5 year old, we're likely to choose the appeal of a DD view over the convenience that The Springs offers in relation to the main pool.
Have fun!
