The residential buildings are brand new. These new residential buildings are on a site previously occupied by older residential building from the early 1970s (which were most recently called the Villas at Disney Institute).

The lobby, spa, restaurant, shop, sales center, and a public areas of SSR were formerly the main campus of The Disney Institute. The campus was relatively new (1996) and designed by a renowned architect, Thomas Beeby. (Some of the campus buildings were adapted from older buildings.)

It is on the site of what has been several different names -- most recently Disney Institute -- I think the name before was Disney Villas. It was the condo-type buildings you could see from the Marketplace area of DD.

The SSR buildings are all brand new -- built from scratch. What was there before was razed and replaced. My friends purchased last year and just came back from their first stay. They absolutely loved it and are very happy with their decision.

SSR is a new resort. It is adjacent to the DD area and when you visited DD you were able to view the construction while it was being built.

I stayed there in October, 2004 and it very nice. Although BWV remain my favorite.

Enjoy.

All of the resort buildings with guest rooms are being built from scratch. SSR is in the area of the old Disney Institute. Some buildings from the DI remain, but none that will house guests.
