MY DF and I just bought into SSR sight unseen. For all of you who actually like the resort had you ever been to another DVC resort before? It seems like all of the folks who have something postive to say, are also the ones who have had their first DVC trip. The negatives seem to come from those who have been to VWL, BCV, BWV, OKW at least a few times before.

We've seen the other DVCs and really liked them, but we never saw SSR. I truly hope we won't be disappointed when we go home. Should we buy a different resort before the ink dries on our contract?

the dreaded DVC resort debate !.... no just kidding but seems that SSR gets such a raw deal.

we are DVC owners all 500 pts at SSR. We had the opportunity to buy in after the resort had a few buildings already up so we had the chance to see it. We just stayed there - our first time - this past Feb. We have always stayed at BWV.

To us SSR is fantastic. it's a beautiful resort. WIth that said, I believe it is what you make it. We have always stayed at BWV becuase we had wanted to be by the two parks, be on the boardwalk, and have some nightlife. My kids LOVE the pool. This last trip we took our parents - in their 60s - and opted for a quieter place to be. We thought SSR was fantastic. Yes, it is large but we did not find it to be occlusive. We loved the fact that DTD was a 5-10 minute walk and we went there practically every night either for dinner, dessert, or shopping.

The resort itself is well kept, clean, and beautiful. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We waited one day for a bus to MK and it took 20 minutes. We also went to BWV for a walk around the baordwalk one day and waited for 40 min for a bus to get to DTD so you just never know.

There will be innumerable opinions regarding this resort - and all DIsney resorts for that matter. That is what these boards are for.

I wouldn't worry about "letting the ink dry". We have been very happy with SSR and plan on staying HOME again in the very near future.

Our only complaint was food. There was no table service there just counter...but from what I read on the boards that is changing by this summer....

I do not own at SSR, I own at BWV and BCV. We had a great time when we stayed at SSR 2 1/2 years ago (after they first opened). We had a great room at the back on near the water and we go see DTD and PI from our room when the curtains were open. At that time, there were not a lot of building open, but thought it was gorgeous. I would definitely stay there again. It is handy being close to DTD and I like being able to park your car near your room. It is a hassle at the BWV to do the parking.

We have been to every DVC resort but HH. We visited SSR for the first time this past January. You can see our thoughts at this thread:

SSR Great Addition

Your observations are correct, I believe. Only you can decide where you should own. I only go back as far as BCV but there certainly was some of the same defensive responses from new owners there. As I recall, the issue was more of what they did with the BCV, never the location of BCV. With SSR, location is the biggest challenge IMO.

Absolutely love SSR and have stayed at all the DVC resorts including Vero and Hilton Head many times.

There is nothing about SSR we don't like. We like the other resorts too, but we much prefer SSR over the other ones.

What concerns do you have?

If you truly want interior hallways, and a lobby connected to the rest of the resort you will be disappointed.

However if your concerns are over some of the transportation concerns, it can happen anywhere and does.

Before we bought into SSR, we had rented points at BWV a couple times, and have since stayed at BCV and VWL (as well as staying at WL a couple of times too).
SSR exceeded my expectations. The grounds and view are really beautiful (although I'm sure PI construction will make the view a little less so for a bit).

The rooms I think have imroved on others in both design and decor. They are well laid out and handsome.

Hopefully, they'll do a good job with the restaurant, as its omission was a big oversight. That being said, the counter service there is nice and has many family sized items perfect for supplementing a meal in your room.

Interior hallways are a non-issue for me. I love OKW and really enjoy the grounds there. I chose SSR simply for the 12 extra years and I needed 300 points. I didn't want to go through the hassle of resale and the ease of Disney was very tempting.

From the pics SSR looks lovely, however the negative reviews have been daunting.

We are mainly summer time visitors so I know that we'll most likely have to stay at SSR so I of course really want to like it.

I am a new owner at SSR (sight unseen). We are making our first trip next week and are very excited. I have been a bit concerned about the amount of negative comments regarding SSR. It is nice to read some positive comments from happy SSR folks out there. I am sure we will love it!!!!

We have never stayed at SSR, but have visited often.
The only true complaint we could conjure up is the lack of restaurant choices. We would need a signature table service restaurant.

There are many positives for us including awesome interior design and furnishings, and proximity to the Adventurers' Club! :drinking:

I wouldn't sweat it. While the parks are busy during Summer it's really not a super-high demand time at the DVC resorts. Even if you don't like SSR as much as the others you'll probably find decent availability at the 7 month window for June through August travel dates.

I don't think this is 100% true. Someone who panned the resort on another thread backtracked and said something like, well I guess if you've never seen another DVC it is pretty impressive, but then you wouldn't know better.

I have stayed at BWV and it was fabulous. I thought SSR was fabulous too. Yes, they are very different resorts, and they both have their pros and cons. Neither is my favorite, I don't have a favorite. I'm looking for different things on different trips.

When you read the reviews the things people like and don't like about SSR are pretty specific, so it's not hard to decide if anything is a "deal-killer." It is a condo-type resort rather than hotel resorts, although I don't think there is a sacrifice in the luxury of accomodations. Some other things people object to... location, resort size... do these things bother you?

Now I've only done SSR for one night, a long trip is yet to come, but based on my short stay, I certainly am not going to feel like I'm settling when I stay at SSR!

Good luck and enjoy your purchase.

sajetto conrats and Welcome Home!!!

We bought SSR sight unseen too. We've stayed at BCV, VWL and BWV in the past. We loved SSR, so much that 13 of us are staying are staying at SSR in October. We're going with my DSiL and family (BCV owners) and friends (who also bought at SSR sight unseen).

I think the problem with SSR is the sheer size of the place. A previous poster refers to a "5/10 minute walk" to Downtown Disney. That is VERY misleading. It would only be possible if you are lucky enough to be in a certain part of the resort. Otherwise, you need to be able to walk on water to get there in anything like that time. ;)

I didn't think SSR had been open that long. Didn't they open May '04? That would put SSR still under the 2 yr. mark.

Or, am I getting my dates wrong?

Today I made my ressie for a studio in July and all the resorts were available except BW. I would't worry too much about not getting in elsewhere if you wanted to.

I was able to get SSR, OKW, or VWL for the first week of April when I called at the end of Feb!
