Hi.

I have a GV at SSR (my home resort) booked for November 10-15, 2020 with two other couples to celebrate my dh/my 30 wedding anniversary.
While we will go to the parks for two days, our main focus is DTD for dinners and drinks. I thought this would be perfect since we can walk back to
SSR at night when the bars close instead of waiting for buses from other resorts.

When I just was playing around on the RAT, I see, if available at 7 months, I could get an OKW GV for 100 points less than SSR.
I don't mind using the 100 points if SSR GV would be much better and we have walking back to SSR in evenings.
But, the GVs at OKW look very nice (I have stayed at SSR GV so I am aware of how they also look) and "saving" 100 points, could possibly
get me another trip in during the year. The extra trip is not an issue so I don't want my decision based on that but what would be the
advantages, besides saving 100 points and booking OKW if available at 7 months? Can we walk to/from OKW/DTD or are the boats
the only other option?

Thank you.

You can often get OKW GVs at 7 months out during the summer season (e.g., 7 months out form now), which is a low to moderate DVC demand time, but you won't find them available air 7 months out for multiple days any time in Nov which is during the high to extremely high demand season.

Personal view is that OKW GVs are better than SSR GV's, including because the OKW GV has multiple large balconies and the SSR GV has only one narrow balcony off the dining area. I believe boat and not walking is your only real option to DS from OKW.

Thank you. Is the balcony issue one of the biggest reasons you would prefer OKW? I am aware how small the SSR balcony is and although it would be nice for all six of us to hang out there, it won't be an issue for me to want to move. I was just really wondering if the rooms were that much nicer. We just did six of us in a log cabin in November for three nights for Friendsgiving which was much smaller than the GV so guessing it will be okay.

Thank you for your input.

The OKW GV is larger, the living/dining/kitchen area are part of one large room rather than the living room being walled off like at SSR, and the w/d is downstairs where it belongs, rather than upstairs like at SSR, since the ones in the master bedroom are usually the ones that will be doing laundry. For almost all the buildings, you do have to walk up a flight of stairs to get to the OKW GV while at SSR you can use an elevator.

You can walk fro OKW to DS during daylight hours. The walking path is closed from sunset to sunrise. It is a much longer walk too. By that date over 1/2 of SSR should be refurbished. The new rooms look amazing. I own at both SSR and OKW. We can’t wait for the new rooms at SSR.

Thank you both very much. I am going to keep SSR. I have standard view booked and our goal is to make travel as seamless as possible so walking back to SSR at night will be the beat option.

Thank you.

One issue that bothers some guests is that the OKW GV has one bedroom with two double beds instead of two queen beds. One of the upstairs bedrooms is much larger than the other.

If there is a GV in the first building in The Grandstand I would request it.

Very close to the Downtown Disney boat. And to the main building. Peaceful golf course and waterway views without a car in sight.

Pool right at your door. And on/off the buses first.

Walking to Downtown Disney, simply over the small golf bridge and over to the House of Blues side.

And not really a big deal to walk the other way either. Not as great as The Paddock of course for that side of Downtown Disney but no huge deal.

Have fun!

There is a boat to go back and forth to OKW. Also, if you get a standard SSR GV you could have a pretty long walk back and forth to DS.

Depending where you are at SSR could mean the boat is your best option. OKW has a boat too and a much larger living room with seating for more people than SSR.

I was recently in a HA GV at OKW and there was only one deck. Is that different from other OKW villas? The upstairs bedrooms had no decks.

The refurb SSR GV is stunning, much higher spec than the OKW one. They are apparently moving onto Springs with the refurb now, so if you have booked preferred, you will get a refurb by November.
So if going preferred, I’d definitely get SSR, here is a video.
I see you booked standard though. They will have started a standard refurb by then, probably done one area, so keep an eye on the SSR refurb thread and request that area that will likely be done, on check in. Or switch to preferred, but even more points.
