I'm planning to rent DVC points to take my 3 year old DS in July - just the guys! I wanted to stay in VWL - my favorite resort - but it appears that VWL studios are sold out for our dates. I have an opportunity to get a SSR studio, but I'm wondering how well it would work for a 3 year old. There's something special about taking the boat from WL to MK, or the monorail to CR with a boat launch to FW and WL. Any thoughts?

Hi! SSR is our "home" resort and we stayed there for the 1st time last Dec. We have 2 kids, ages 9 and 7. The resort is quiet, beautiful, and the rooms are spacious. We particularly enjoyed the short walk (from Congress Park section) to DD. You can also travel to DD by boat. The theme pool is "zero entry" and there are "pop-jet" fountains that a 3 yr old would enjoy. If he is brave, there is a 125 ft. water slide that he can try with Daddy. I mention the pool in particular because that's probably all that a 3 yr old would care about his accommodations!

My 9 yr old found the restful, spa-like theme to be a bit "boring", but I doubt your son would even notice.

My only complaint about the resort was that I found the bus service to be quite spotty and buses overcrowded. (1st week of Dec '05).

We just returned from SSR with our 3 yo (and 5 yo and a 6 yo...LOL). Our little one loved it. They have the "big" water slide if he is adventurous, and much smaller little slide for the little ones. Plus the zero-entrance is GREAT for toddlers and pre-schoolers. So I think the pool will be a hit.

As for the boat...there is a friendship boat to DTD from SSR, so you can still have that fun and special experience with your little one.

Remember, though, that SSR is large and you could be a bit away from the main pool. I went to the furthest bldg. from the Main pool just to see how long of a walk it was...it took 5 minutes for an adult (alone) to walk to the main pool. Fortunately, our villa was the closest to the pool and AP, so this made a big difference for my kids. They would not have been too happy about the long walk to the pool (we probably would have driven over just to make life easier).
