My family and I are planning on staying in SSR Dec 31 2006 and Jan 1 2007 in an ADA (Handicapped access...I am confined to a motorized wheelchair) Grand Villa (we hope anyway) and were wondering if anyone has ever stayed in an ADA Grand Villa that faces the fireworks. We would like to possibly stay in our room for New Year's Eve, as I've heard the parks are insane on NYEve and thought staying in our room on the balcony watching the fireworks would be more fun. We will probably have a 2 1/2 year old with us as well and we thought it'd be better for him if we weren't out too late in a park. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Jennifer

There are a total of eight GVs in the Congress Park area facing PI. One of those is used as a model. I don't know how many of the others are HCA, but would expect that there may be one in that area. The other 16 GV's will not likely have a direct view towards PI. (There are presently a total of 24 GV's at the resort available for reservations. Each building has 2 GV's and 12 buildings are now open.)

I'd request a building in Congress Park to have any opportunity for a view of the DD area. The PI fireworks will no longer be displayed nightly after tonight. No word yet about future special events with fireworks from DD/PI.

Jennincincy, Just came back from SSR GV handicap room. Requested hc at time of ressie, MS went through special request no problem. We had room 2841 Congress park. This room faced the cirque and you needed to sit on the balcony for the very short fireworks. I read the fireworks would be no more after New Years Eve this year. I was also told that for every 4 buildings there was a HC GV. Our building was the first on the right if you were facing the buildings. The only roll in shower is in the master bedroom. The upstairs bedrooms have tub's with handrails and adjustable shower handle. You could take the shower off to spray yourself or a person that may need help. The bathroom that was off the kitchen was huge, had a non HC shower and no tub. This was a very nice bathroom. The kithchen had the cut away under the sink. The micro was on the counter but other than that it was a regular kitchen. There is also a 2nd entry on the second floor. IMHO the washer and dryer would be difficult for someone in a wheelchair to use, it was a stackable. Another problem we noticed, no handle on the patio door for getting back in side the room. We would have to leave the door ajar if we went onto the patio because if you shut the door you are not getting back in(LOL). We really enjoyed all the extra room. We also used a queen size areo bed on the upstairs balcony for overnight quest and had lots of room leftover. Could have actually used 2 beds with no problem. Susan

According to info posted on www.mouseplanet.com a few weeks ago after this New Year's Eve there won't be fireworks at PI, so I wouldn't worry about that.

If you need a handicapped (ADA) accessible unit, that is a guarantee and they block it at the time of your reservation. Your confirmation letter should say something similar to "Accessible villa guaranteed" (or confirmed).
