What is the nearest place to get some groceries? We will be staying at SSR for 5 nights, then we are moving over to AKV for 4 nights. We would like to get some items to cook meals while we stay at SSR. We will also need to get diapers for DS, as we will not have room in the car to pack a box on the way down. We are driving from Illinois, so most of the space in the car will be taken by suitcases and DS in his car seat.

I always go grocery shopping at either Wal-Mart or Target. Target is on 192 in Kissimmee and Wal-Mart is off of 192. If you have GPS you can find the Wal-Mart very easily. A lot of members use Garden Grocer as they will deliver for a small delivery charge. I prefer going and looking at items myself that is why I drive to either Target or Wal-Mart.

We won't have GPS. I think I would rather go buy our own stuff, since we are going to need baby stuff for DS (diapers, wipes, soap).

There are a lot of grocery stores in the area, and I am sure that other members will refer other places you can go too. I just prefer either Wal-Mart or Target as they have resonable prices and usually quality products. Your best bet would be Target on 192 east it is about a 5 to 10 mile drive, but you can't miss it.

If you go out the back way from SSR, it is not far to the Super Walmart. If you go to the walmart site you can print the directions. I think it is right on 535 (Vineland). Very easy to find. It is closer than the one out 192.:)

Is there any place nearby dtd to walk and get some minor stuff? A friend of mine said her husband always took the bus to dtd and then "walked" to get items. I have never been able to figure out where? We are staying at SSR and that would be convenient as we won't have a car. Although, we have always been happy with garden grocer too.

Use gardengrocer.com for your groceries, etc. They charge $12 to deliver to your resort, orders over $200 are free. It's much more convenient than shopping around while you're on vacation.

Walmart, very easy!!! Worth the 12 minute drive. Save yourself from fees, when Wal-Mart is very easy, open late and you get what you want. Rental cars are so easy. Most full size cars can be found for $150 a week.

Wal-Mart Supercenter
3250 Vineland Rd.
Kissimmee, FL 34746

The front desk will give you printed out directions to Walmart, was just there last week. So sad to be home in this cold snowy weather.

Does this Target have some groceries too? I love Target :)

The place the person walks to from DTD is the Hess Station. My DH did the same thing once. He brought a rolling cooler & took the bus to DTD & it is right across the main road. There is a crossing light so easy enough to do.

Now we usually take a cab (if we don't have a car) to the Winn Dixie. You just take a right out of SSR, go to the lights by DTD & take a left out to the main road & take another left & Winn Dixie is up a little ways on the right. They have a lot great choices including some pre-made chicken wings & nuggets, souvenier items, etc. Plus we got the Winn Dixie card a few years back & it saves us money.

Quick stuff can be bought at the Carraige House in SSR. Their prices are high & limited bet very convienent. There are several delivery services that will do your shopping & deliver to your door. Garden grocir seems to be the favorite.
Disney also has a delivery service that is expensive but again convenient. You can find that info on the DVC web site.

If you leave SSR take a right then a left at the light there is a Food Lion on your right hand side. Very reasonable prices.

Dennis-

Take a right out of SSR than head left on Hotel Blvd, at the intersection you shoud see Crossroads Shopping Plaza. A small grocery store is in there. That's the closest grocery store to SSR but it is expensive. Double check those directions.

There is a major store, Publixs if you head left on that main road by the Crossroads Plaza, sorry I'm not good with names. There is also a Winn-Dixie a little farther down the road and it's cheaper.

Before you head to Fl. google for the stores and you'll be able to get directions and store info.

Yep. The Winn-Dixie is only a couple of miles. That's where we always go now. You can always go to Goodings' and save some gas. It's a mile closer. LOL

(You'll get it once you've been to both)

Yes the Target on Route 192 in Kissimmee is a Super Target. They have a grocery section. The target is open til I believe 11:00 and the Wal-Mat Super Center is open 24/7. I always do my shopping at 11:00 or midnight. All of the cast members are there as well, but its never crowded in the SuperCenter.

This is all interesting information. I will be staying in Feb. 11th will stay through Feb. 15th in a studio. Does the studio have a kitchen or a small fridge? I will not have a car to drive places are there any bus stops close by with busses that can take me to the stores?

The studio has a kitchenette with small fridge & microwave. Artist's Palette at SSR does have some grocery items such as milk, juice, breakfast items, soups, chips, etc. They are a bit expensive but not bad if you plan on only buying a couple of things. Like others have mentioned, at Crossroads there is Goodings right outside the WDW gates & across the main road (535), but it's a bit of a walk & also expensive. I imagine there is also public bus service out on the main rd. & easy enough to google if you want info. As I mentioned before, you can also take a bus to DTD & walk across the road to the Hess station where the items are cheaper than the Artist's Palette.

We're going in May, but not renting a car. Should we take a cab or use gardengrocer?

Either way is fine, and it's what works for you. I've only heard great things about gardengrocer & wegoshop, but I am too much of a control freak & prefer to shop on my own. Plus we had to leave some groceries with bell service once & it was such a pain. We had to call down a few times to get some missing items & we STILL didn't end up with everything we bought. Mistakes happen & it doesn't mean it will happen again, but we prefer not to take the chance. It was only $10 each way plus tip to Winn Dixie & like I said before, we can search for our own items (including sale items) & it's easy enough to get a Winn Dixie card.
