Returned a week ago from 10 days at WDW. It was originally going to be a trip with extended family, but evolved into a solo trip which I totally enjoyed!! 10 days was not too long at all -- I was practically crying on final checkout day, wishing like crazy that I could stay another week.
Since my plans changed more than once without much notice, my stay was in 3 different rooms. Here's the scoop:
SSR studio #2423 - Room was ready by 2:30, and I lucked out with a terrific location!! Right by the elevator, with a lovely view of one of the pools and Downtown Disney. Nice and close to the bus stop too. The decor in the SSR rooms is really attractive. I love the rich color wood and the beautiful bedspread. Everything was so new and nice. I enjoyed my first stay at SSR. It will certainly be huge when all is finished. Stayed here 3 nights. Excellent bus service. On 2 different trips, I had a bus all to myself!
BWV standard 1BR #2119 - Are you sitting down? I checked in at 11:30 on Easter Sunday, and the room was ready!!
Boy, did I feel luxurious staying in a 1BR all by myself for 4 nights!! (Waitlist for a studio never came through, so I just "made the best of it."
) This room was pretty far from the elevator, but I really liked the location a lot. I was right by the staircase that led down to the quiet pool and also to the path to the bus stop. Great view of Illuminations fireworks! The room was generally in good shape, except that the toilet stopped up twice for no apparent reason. (Honest!
) Maintenance came quickly both times, and the second time did the trick.
BWV pref. studio #4070 - Ran into some problems with check-in. First the CM told me I'd be in a HC room even though I'd requested a non-HC room so I could have a tub. Then he said he was mistaken and that the room did have a tub in it and was not a HC room. Went to Epcot, and called at 2:30 to see if room was ready. They said yes, so I went back and went to the room. It was indeed a HC room (not sure why the CM said it wasn't), and it was totally NOT ready. The bed and sofa bed had been stripped of bedding and then left. There were no towels in the room at all, and a bag of garbage was sitting by the kitchenette. I called the desk to say that the room was not ready, and they apologized and promised to send someone right up to finish the cleaning. Back to Epcot I went for a while. Nice to have it so close!
Now I'm usually happy with just about any room anywhere at a DVC resort. What's not to like when you're at WDW?
But I'm sad to say that this room was a disappointment. Not because it was a HC room either. I stayed in HC studio #1048 at BWV last year and it was a terrific room. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat. But #4070 had no closet, no safe, a pedestal bathroom sink with only a narrow ledge and no other storage areas, a small shower area that looked too dinky to roll a wheelchair into, and a smaller than usual TV. The shelf unit containing the TV had a small wardrobe area attached for hanging clothes. But using it means you have to have the ironing board and vacuum cleaner sitting around the room. When I opened the drawers to put clothes in there, I found that the pillows and bedding for the sofa bed were stored in them. So again, I had that stuff sitting around.
Now, did any of these things ruin my stay? Of course not. They were mere inconveniences, except for having no safe. (I think that is unacceptable, and I was very surprised that it was the case. Somehow I thought that every DVC room was equipped with a safe.) But I was by myself. I kept wondering how 3 or 4 people would cope with that room, especially for a longer stay, considering that it was severely limited for storage space. I did call the front desk to ask why there was no safe. The CM was surprised to hear that any room at BWV didn't have one. I also politely mentioned my disappointment in the lack of storage space. She said that the resort was sold out that night, but they'd be glad to move me the next day. A nice offer indeed, but by that point I was tired of changing rooms. Besides, it was only for 3 nights. The room overlooked the clown pool and it was wonderfully close to the elevator.
In spite of the one disappointing room, I had great stays at both SSR and BWV. While SSR was just beautiful and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again, my favorite resorts are still BWV and BCV because of the location and activity. Questions? Let me know.
