Squirts, Shirts, and Flirts, The Legend Continues 2 weeks in FW(wrap up #2 new 11-17)

Great update!

First of all, huge congrats to Candi.

Parker and his ears....Parker and grandpa....Chip and Dale. Good good stuff.

I totally hear you about being bummed about missing the "earing".

You know, I love my parents. I love my in-laws. but they, like the rest of us I guess, get caught up in the moment, of having "their" time wth the grandchild and just want to have that special moment. Which, at times can leave us, the parents, in the dust. Forgotten entirely.

It can be a huge bummer at times and occasionally really frustrating but....they meant well and those smiling smiling pictures do ease a lot of the disappointment I hope.

What is MJ up to these days anyways?
thanks i will pass along your congrats.

i know its tuff, but very glad he got them....they do, he really loved them and that was great.

ummm, MJ passed away. didnt you know that.:confused3

Good luck to Candi. :lovestruc Parker's first pair of ears. Cute videos of Chip and Dale dancing but the guy in the back of the second video was a hoot. I think he really though he was groovy. He tried to pick up the kid and make him dance but he wasn't having it.:lmao:
i know his dancing was great, didnt even notice it until we got home and watched the video.
yeah the kid was like dad your a dork i dont know you.
:sad2:

Just checkin'in Dan!!!!!
hey rose.
:)
Back from the world and checkin' in.
Congrats to Candi for passing her real estate exams.

Love the ears and it sounds like everyone is having a great time.
welcome back, are you going to write a TR?
:surfweb:

i will pass along the congrats to candi.

Great picture of Parker & your dad! Candi looks more like your teenage daughter than wife! And, I mean that as a compliment!

Awesome tr subscribing
:welcome: thanks for joining in...and glad you like it.:thumbsup2

Yes, we need a Poolrat TR!
are you confirming that she will write one? or egging on that we need a poolrat TR?:)

Great picture of Parker & your dad! Candi looks more like your teenage daughter than wife! And, I mean that as a compliment!
thanks, and I am very lucky to have her. would you believe that she is actually older than me by almost 2 years...she is robbing the cradle.:rotfl:

Hey, another DISer from SC!!!

:sad2:

Chapter 18. Lets enjoy and intermission shall we.

So even though my updates have been with a how shall we say this....a little far between, i think it is time for a break in the action, all good plays have intermissions and acts, and it is time for ours...but wait that would mean this is a good TR...well dont all bad ones also have intermissions to allow people to leave without interupting the show. Okay since ALL have intermissions then this is ours.

Last week on labor day we had tickets to the cubs game. So we handed parker off to my parents who were taking him to a few of the days activities including a 3 hour parade in the town over...and good times at there house afterwards.

Candi and I were on our way, we enjoy parking around the park/museum area of chicago...so this trip we chose soldier field parking/or the bears stadium parking garage.

Upon exiting the garare we walked up to the stadium and i noticed that gate was open. See
DSC02651.jpg

for me that was an invite into said grounds. we ventured further into the stadium.
DSC02653.jpg

proof that we were atually there with the beautiful forground(cute girl i saw) and background(city) in the picture
DSC02656.jpg

we continued around to the side of the stadium that faces the lake, and right to the right of us, was the ramp that went down to the consession area.
DSC02657.jpg

i was very temped to go down the ramp because that would get me into the area of the stadium that i could go to the seats and get to the field, but candi held me back and said we pushed our luck far enough by walking around the stadium and how far we ventured in...

but to my defense we were in there a good 20 minutes and did not see anyone else so i could have gotten away with it, at least thats my thinking.

a nice statue between the stadium and the field museum.
DSC02658.jpg

this was on the other side of the field museum with the views of grant park and millenium park in the background.
as well as one of the boat harbors.
DSC02659.jpg

we walked through a good amount of grant park then ventured west a few blocks to hit the subway which would take us to the north side of the city and to the cubs stadium.

right before we went underground i saw this big eye looking at me.
DSC02660.jpg

we arrived to the stadium about 2.5 hours before the game and just took our time walking around the stadium seeing the sights and enjoying ourself...when we walked in, we saw a group of about 4 camera men and producers and people with boom mics and the such and continued on our way up the ramp to the middle level of seats...when the camera crew started to follow us and film these 2 guys talking. who were hot dog vendors.

we started speculating on what they were filming for. and came to the level we were seeking and stopped to talk to an older usher. he said they were filming a documentary about baseball stadium and jobs there...hmm sounded a little fishy to us:rolleyes:

we asked the usher if it sounded a little like that show "undercover boss" where they do that sort. he was very shocked and goes yeah it does kinda sound like that show.

the guy who was doing the documentary even had the same goofy look as the other bosses thick beard that you could tell was just grown in. stupid looking black rim glasses and a baseball hat on.

he didnt turn around for me to get a good picture of him, but you can see him here.
DSC02662.jpg

he went on to tell us how thenew owners are very nice and they attend every game and are trying to turn the ballpark back to the good old days of family friendly and such, sounds like a good reason for one of the new owners to go "undercover":rolleyes1 It was a good "im just sayin" moment for sure.

here they are from our "original" seats filming
DSC02663.jpg

and just behind us you can see the sky line.
DSC02664.jpg

before the game started we got some food and since the stadium wasnt that full yet, we chose to move down to the lower part of the upper deck.
time for mister documentary man to the throw out the first pitch.
DSC02665.jpg

DSC02666.jpg

the view from our "new" seats.
DSC02668.jpg

during the whole game people would come and go all around us but we picked the right ones as the real owners of those seats never showed up so we were good to go.

we even had a great view of the press box for the 7th inning stretch.
DSC02671.jpg

the cubs won, witch is rare this season, but me and candi are still 100% on wins when we go...which is about 18 games for me and 7 or so for her.

when we got to my parents house for the cookout that night, my dad showed us that at the end of the game when he was watching the game, they were filming hte people behind us that had the W "win" flag and we were on TV for a short time, so that was exciting.

now fast forward to this weekend, and our annual chili cookoff that candi and i host. attendance was down this year as well as the number of chilis entered...normally we have about 40-50 people there, this year about 25 with only 6 chilis entered.
DSC02720.jpg

we have had between 8-13 chilis in the past, this year here were the 6 that were part of the competition.
DSC02721.jpg

the rules are simple, bring a chili, everyone tries them we vote you win.

who won third well, it was yours truly, i have placed most years, but never won that coveted title.
mine is normally a little spicy because thats how i like it, but it doesnt appeal to everyone there so that hurts me some.
the cookoff host giving the award to the 3rd place winner, which is one in the same.
DSC02724.jpg

2nd place was a tie straight down to the number of 1st 2nd and 3rd place votes so they had to share the award it was my mom and candis dad
DSC02725.jpg

the winner does get a cool trophy to proudly desplay in there house for 1 year until the next years cookoff rolls around. when they must bring it back and hand it over to the next winner...each year a new name is added to the trophy to commemorate the occasion and this trophy will be able to hold about 15 names on it, which at that time we will retire it to the 25th winner to keep, or get a bigger base attached to it and continue on.
this was our first back to back winner and it went to my brother in laws mom (which they are really close to us, and parker even calls them nana and papa) her husband is also my boss.
DSC02726.jpg

it is a really nice and big park where we have it...about40 acres total.
DSC02728.jpg

there is also a hug playground which keeps the kids nad parents happy.
DSC02729.jpg

and the only traffic that goes between them is the traffic for your party so that is good as well.

well thats about it, will be back to the disney updates next. hope you enjoyed.

Great Weekend Dan! Your pictures before the game are beautiful.

So funny that you moved seats. :lmao: We went to the Astros vs Braves game in the old Astrodome one year. DH's cousins came to meet us. They bought the cheap seats then came down to sit with us. They got bumped 3 times before they gave up and went to their original seats.

Congrats on your 3rd place finish in the chili cook off. I love me some good chili.

I miss seeing pictures of Parker.

are you confirming that she will write one? or egging on that we need a poolrat TR?:)

Egging on!

i was very temped to go down the ramp because that would get me into the area of the stadium that i could go to the seats and get to the field, but candi held me back and said we pushed our luck far enough by walking around the stadium and how far we ventured in...

I'm not sure that it counts as if you don't run onto the field.

we started speculating on what they were filming for. and came to the level we were seeking and stopped to talk to an older usher. he said they were filming a documentary about baseball stadium and jobs there...hmm sounded a little fishy to us:rolleyes:

Nice catch Dan.

2nd place was a tie straight down to the number of 1st 2nd and 3rd place votes so they had to share the award it was my mom and candis dad

This sounds as fishy as that hot dog vendor! A complete tie between your parents and your in-laws....you are so diplomatic.

this was our first back to back winner and it went to my brother in laws mom (which they are really close to us, and parker even calls them nana and papa) her husband is also my boss.

Job security. I'm seeing right through this supposed chili cookoff competition.

well thats about it, will be back to the disney updates next. hope you enjoyed.

I did. Thanks for sharing your photos. :)

Nice update - I will have to pay attention to the Undercover Boss episodes. My youngest son is a major Cubs fan. It's not his fault, it's a genetic thing. :confused3 I was raised in a Cubs/Bears house, when I met DH's family in spite of the fact that DH was divorced with 2 teen-age boys, and with me being only 22 years old and 12 1/2 years younger than DH (and only 6 years older than his oldest boy), the only question they asked me before admitting me into the family was whether or not I was a Cubs fan. Our boys are named Sean (for Shawon Dunston), Ryne (for Ryne Sandberg).....then when #3 appeared and was another boy the Dr who delivered him (also a Cubs fan -with Ernie Banks autographed pics on his office walls) asked "So is this one Mark Grace?". We had tossed around the name Dawson also, but when Doc asked us that we decided that #3 was Mark. :thumbsup2 For their middle names we did manage to stray away from the Cubs.....

thanks we always enjoy our trips to chicago it is a great city and alot of fun to visit.

that was the first time we have ever moved seats, our seats were good, but we figured there was so many open ones we might as well move down until we get bumped, luckily we never did.
:thumbsup2

thanks, next year im changing up the reciepe again to try for first place.

parker will be back in the next update.

Egging on!
I'm not sure that it counts as if you don't run onto the field.
sure it does, getting on the field just counts as double points.

Nice catch Dan.
thanks :thumbsup2

actually i was trying to find a way to not give my mom 2nd, she hates to loose so i was trying all combos to knock her out of contention, but there was no grey area on the votes.:confused3

Job security. I'm seeing right through this supposed chili cookoff competition.
 actually i knew him well before i got my job, andhe wasnt my boss when i got it, but is now. :thumbsup2

wow, i bet that could have been rough when you first started out in the family being so close in age to the kids. nice first question though to let you in.

so i have to ask, when you get back from your trip in a month, are you going to write a TR?
:surfweb:::yes::

It wasn't too bad....just kinda weird. Their mother lived in the same town, they lived with her (well, the oldest moved in with us a year later.) I never thought of myself as their mother or even a mother-figure. I figured they had their own mother :confused3. Sometimes I have to watch myself when I refer to them as "his" boys, or "not my actual boys" because online people can think that I am not "claiming" them. Well, I do - but at 6 years old - I sure wasn't producing them - so I do kind of distance myself a little. ;) I do call their kids "my grandkids". Sometimes I have to go back and explain when after talking about grandkids I mention that my oldest kid just turned 21 :rolleyes1 I remember when DH & I were engaged we took the boys out for lunch. Our school district consolidated in 1973 and a "new school" was built. At lunch I said something about where a room was in the school and he said that he never went there, I asked when he graduated, he told me 1972 then asked what grade I was in then. I asked if he was sure he wanted me to answer that . Well, the year he graduated.....I was in kindergarten :lmao: the boys reaction ??? :scared1:

As for a trip report....I don't know. I've tried them in the past and the fall apart quickly. In place of one, if I ever get the more recent trip pics on my computer I may go do a picture history of some of our trips. You can watch my crew get younger as we go back in time.....

Sounds like a great weekend! I miss Chicago. We used to live in Michigan and haven't been there in over 6 years! I definitely need to make a trip there again one day.

I've started reading Jordan's old TR's (was too intimidated by their sizes before:eek:) and got to Jordan announcing Parker's birth with a link to your Baby Fauntelroy report. Just spent the last couple hours reading through it. It was kinda funny reading all the guesses since I already knew how that part of the story would end! Sweet story for a sweet baby (little man) it will be nice to have all those memories written down when you get to the point where you can't seem to remember anything. Like me :rolleyes1

You just can't go wrong with Cubs and Chili!

Two of my favorite things. Although truth be told, back in the day when I was a regular game attendee it was all about burgers and brats.

bright side is you are young enough maybe you can see the 5th generation of the family born.:thumbsup2

well if you decide to write one, ill be there.:surfweb: that might be kinda neat to watch people get younger instead of older.

we love chicago, and also michigan. we try and go up there a few times a year to camp, we have a week long trip next summer to michigan as well.

Cool! I bet you money that was Undercover Boss. You are so smart to pick up on that!
im pretty sure it was as well, i cant wait for the new season of that to start up.

i know i need to go and copy over or print off the stuff from that one, it was fun to have it all.

well then you would have loved the foot long chicago brat i had, i through on the chili cheese for good measure and it was that much more awesome, great flavor to the brat.

and only like 1 dollar more than a regular brat.

All of a sudden the joke about visiting Beethoven's burial site comes to mind........ :rolleyes1

Tactful Dan, reeeealy tactful!! Better take that "Glennbo's How to Suck Up to Your DIS Readers" class before this thread turns into a ghost town! :rotfl:

what, i was just sayin

glenn gave me a free coupon for his class i had to attend.

To make a long story short.............

A family travels to Austria. While in Vienna they hire a tour guide to take them to all the important sites in the city. One of the stops is to see Beethoven's gravesite. While they are standing there, they start to hear music coming up from the ground. "That's Beethoven's ninth symphony" the father says! The music changes and the Mom replies "That's his eighth symphony." Then they hear the seventh, the sixth, the third........ They look at the tour guide and ask "What's going on?" The tour guide responds......"Oh, Beethoven is just DE-composing!" (rimshot)

Okay, not quite the same as people going from older to younger, but......... :)
