We are planning a May 2013 and January 2014 trip for DS and DD birthdays. Since we are buying the PAP :cool1: I was thinking of making an extra trip with just me and the kids. Here are my choices:

October 19-26 2013 or August 31- September 7 2013

We have never been during these times, so I would appreciate an opinions! We will stay at our home resort, AKV. Since this is an extra trip we will not be doing any extras, like F&W or MNSSHP. Is there a big difference between the temps of these dates? Any pros/cons I may not know about these times (large tour groups etc.)? Anything I should be asking? Thanks in advance for all your thoughts :goodvibes

I would definitely go for October. The weather tends to be cooler and less rainy than late August/early September.

Note that Food & Wine isn't really an "extra" as there is no cost added on for it (unless you do the special meals or demonstrations). In fact eating at the food booths around World Showcase can actually save you money compared to a sit down meal, and is certainly better than the normal counter servcice offerings.

Becuase of Food & Wine though, book as early as you can.

I vote for October too, the weather is much nicer, not as humid. And the food and wine festival is going on.

I would choose Oct. also due to the better chance of cooler weather :thumbsup2

September is hurricane season.

:earsboy: Bill

I don't want to burst your bubble but so is October & November. Hurricane season ends December 1st!

Anyone heard of Hurricane Sandy, providing us with a lot of wind and rain today! In fact Hurricane Wilma a few years ago did more damage to my house than Francis, hit October 24th!

Yes, up here in CT we went 2 weeks without electricity because of Irene and now Sandy, they just told us to brace for Tuesday. :umbrella:

8/31/ to 9/7, a lot of the southern schools are back in session, sure there will be afternoon thunderstorms and it will be hot but the crows should be manageable.

10/19 - 10/26, Food & Wine, if you enjoy it that sort of thing, depending on your travel party. I find it too crowded now for me, I skip it! The weather is a teensy bit cooler, actually quite breezy this week but rainy!

You can't predict the weather, I'd book either dates!

Good luck!

Late Aug through Sep 7 is hot and humid. Oct 19-26 will be hugely different, though temps can be in mid-80s the stifling summer humidity is gone, making the days and particulaly the evenings ideal. Also fewer thunderstorms in October. A hurricane can happen either time although somewhat less likely in October and if it does it will not be pleasant regardless of which time you are there (frankly if key to you is scheduling based on avoiding hurricanes then go between Nov and April; otherwise don't consider it a factor when deciding between the two times you suggest).

October will have Food & Wine fest and Mickey's Halloween party, which is a fun event to do once while you are there. Park crowds will be less in Aug 31 to Sep 7-- even Labor Day time is not overly crowded. Oct crowds will be heavy but doable. September creates a risk of having lovebugs (although they are usually a little later in September). Week in Oct will see none of those. If you play golf, price with DVC discount is about $56 in Sep and $73 in Oct (Sep is in summer season and October in higher fall season)

Points will be less for Aug 31-Sep 7 than Oct week.

To me Oct would be preferred because of more pleasant weather, Food & Wine fest and Halloween party but Sep has its benfits also and probably the choice if you are avoiding the Halloween party and F&W fest.

October FTW! Beautiful weather, less crowds, and F&W is a nice bonus. May have a little more trouble getting your resort of choice though.

The cooler weather alone would make me go in October :thumbsup2

There's is very little difference in weather temps between September and October either month is still hot and humid. You'll be lucky if you get any temperature below 88 degree during the day unless a hurricane is nearby. Are you interested in F&W or MNSSHP? If yes to either I would consider your October dates.

Another vote for October! I was there two weeks ago and the weather was fantastic!! NOT hot and humid...day time maybe reached 84 and at night we had a few chilly evenings! I'd have to say this was probably the first time in the 30+ years of going to WDW that I didn't die of the heat. Now was this the norm? Some locals said "yes".

Last year was nice in October but more humid and I think the daytime temps were in the upper 890's. But definately NOT like the July and August months.

I vote for October too! We were also just there and the weather was fantastic. F&W was a blast. I'd go in October again in a heartbeat.
