Does anyone have a REALLY good spritz cookie recipe???

I tried the one from Pampered Chef and I wasn't that impressed...I remember my moms being moist and the PC ones were crunchier. If anyone has one to share I would REALLY appreciate it!

This is the recipe my mom has used forever!! Enjoy !

Spritz Cookies

1 cup unsalted butter - 2 sticks
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tsp almond
2 1/3 cup all purpose flour - may need a bit extra to get the right consistency

cream butter, add sugar, beat till light and fluffy. Beat in egg and extract. Gradually blend in the flour till dough rolls off sides of bowl. Fill press and away you go. If you are adding color to your cookies do it before you add the flour to the mixture.

Dont forget to chill all your pans before starting.. and ungreased pans work best.

Bake at 350 Degrees for 8-10 minutes..

makes about 6-7 dozen

That looks like the same recipe we always used when I made them with my mother.

Thanks - I think I replaced it when she brought it to me a couple years ago!

I LOVE spritz cookies! I can't stop eating them! Especially the ones through the cookie press with the xmas tree disc and green sprinkles! :rotfl:

When I was little, a neighbor made the best ones I ever tasted - my mom didn't get the recipe, and that neighbor is long gone so I will probably never find out what made hers sooooo different from all the others.....

I thought I would try Kelly Ripa's recipe this year - she made it on the show last year and I thought they looked good (of course they did - did I say I LOVE spritz cookies!) :goodvibes

Kelly's Grandma Esther's Spritz Cookies

Blend 1 c. softened butter & ½ c. sugar in bowl. Then mix together in that bowl, using your hands, 2 ½ c. flour, ½ tsp. salt, 1 egg & 1 tsp. vanilla extract. Optional: You can add food coloring if you want.

Put mixture into cookie press and press on an un-greased cookie sheet. Decorate with sprinkles, colored sugar crystals, M&M’s, whatever! Bake 375 degrees for approximately 9 minutes or until lightly brown edges.

I dunno about the "using your hands" part to mix the dough (that probably shows the age of the recipe?) - I'll be using a mixer! :sunny:

I might make these cream cheese spritz also - to see if maybe that is what my neighbor used for the different taste (texture should be soft in these also)

1 cup butter or hard margarine, softened
4 oz. cream cheese, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
2 lg. eggs
1-1/2 tsp. vanilla (or almond extract, or mixture of both= 3/4 tsp of each)
1/4 tsp. salt
3 cups all purpose flour
Sugar, sprinkles, colored sugar, red and green glazed cherries

Directions:
Cream butter, cream cheese and sugar in large bowl. Beat in eggs 1 at a time. Add extract and salt. Beat.

Add flour. Work into batter. Fill cookie press and press your choice of design onto ungreased cookie sheet. Decorate. Bake in 400 f. oven for 10 to 12 minutes until set and edges are showing a hint of brown. Makes 6 to 7 dozen.

OMG those were my favorites too - I so vividly remember making them when I was a kid with my mom, and the metal cookie press. When I was a teen and my sister already married we would have a cookie baking day and make dozens and dozens of cookies, and I was always in charge of the spritz cookies - Thanks for helping that memor to re-surface! Fond fond memories.

Hopefully Tara and I will build those memories too - it's just not fun yet baking with her - her attention span is too short and after the first pan, she's off and I'm left to bake the rest and clean up. My mother bought me a Wilton cookie press last year, but we did not use it yet - know one around to eat them after we bake them - and I CERTAINLY don't need them!

Freeze the cookie sheets and the cookies will "stick" better! If you use the poinsetta-like disc you can put 1/2 of a candy cherry in the middle....ummmh! We have made these every year for....well, we won't give any ages away, but I remember Kennedy being shot (BOTH John and Bobby!)......

Me too - I'm closing in on 50 in just 14 months! Back when somethings were just simpler and easier. I feel so OLD saying that, but it is just so true!

Thanks guys for the great recipes...I think that I am going to give the cream cheese ones a whurl one of these nights...I have to test them out first!

THANK YOU :goodvibes

Omg, we went all over heck to get a spriz coookie press last year. Finally drove to gb, bought the last one and got offered twice what it was worth. Best cookies ever.

I'm so glad this thread was started! I got a cookie press from my aunt a couple of years ago (funny story - we lived halfway across the country at the time and she sent it by mail - I though it was borken glass since all of the disks rattled so much!). I've never used it but I've been thinking about giving it a try this year.

I tried making the spritz cookies that have the cream cheese in them...they didn't work out :confused3 First they were too sticky so I added more flour that didn't work...I tried to chill it and that didn't work either...I was VERY sad!

I have my grandmother's Mirro cookie press and was so excited to try using it for the first time a few weeks ago. I found Kelly Ripa's recipe and made them and I think they turned out horrible. I did not like the taste at all. So I looked up a couple more on-line and each was worse than the last. I finally stumbled onto a wonderful website with cookie recipes from all different countries. Here is the one for the Spritz cookies and they are delicious! They turn out perfect each time and it really is best to chill the cookie sheets in the fridge first. My 5yr old ds loved making these with me and I couldn't crank them out fast enough, every time I got them on the cooling rack and would turn to go back to the kitchen my two little cookie monsters were stealing them!

2/3 cup sugar
1 cup butter
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

Heat oven to 400F. In large mixer bowl combine sugar, butter, egg, salt, and vanilla. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until mixture is light and fluffy, 2 to 3 minutes. Add flour. Beat at low speed, scraping bowl often, until well mixed, 2 to 3 minutes. Place dough in cookie press. Form desired shapes 1 inch apart on cookie sheets. Bake for 6 to 8 minutes or until edges are lightly browned.
