I have my grandmother's Mirro cookie press and was so excited to try using it for the first time a few weeks ago. I found Kelly Ripa's recipe and made them and I think they turned out horrible. I did not like the taste at all. So I looked up a couple more on-line and each was worse than the last. I finally stumbled onto a wonderful website with cookie recipes from all different countries. Here is the one for the Spritz cookies and they are delicious! They turn out perfect each time and it really is best to chill the cookie sheets in the fridge first. My 5yr old ds loved making these with me and I couldn't crank them out fast enough, every time I got them on the cooling rack and would turn to go back to the kitchen my two little cookie monsters were stealing them!
2/3 cup sugar
1 cup butter
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
Heat oven to 400F. In large mixer bowl combine sugar, butter, egg, salt, and vanilla. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until mixture is light and fluffy, 2 to 3 minutes. Add flour. Beat at low speed, scraping bowl often, until well mixed, 2 to 3 minutes. Place dough in cookie press. Form desired shapes 1 inch apart on cookie sheets. Bake for 6 to 8 minutes or until edges are lightly browned.
